People love to talk shit about places they've heard are rough but have never actually been to. It makes them feel smart or funny or something.

It should make them feel ignorant or stupid. If they don't know, they should just ask and we'll tell them. How's that?

yep, exactly. suburban white boy not even from a major city here, and i've been to washington heights where my friend lives a gazillion times. i could name 1,000 places that trump this in terms of shittiness. Let them be ignorant -- it will mean more seats for people like yourself.

    um, no.
if it's 10 am PDT that translates to 1 pm EDT. 3 hour time difference, being 3 hours earlier on the west coast. however, i think the first boston show goes up at 9 am PDT, and the first NYC show at 1 pm PDT = 4 pm EDT. i was referencing night 2 b/c it's the only NY show i can try for, goes on sale 2 pm PDT = 5 pm EDT.

  • Ok I haven't posted here in years but once people start ripping my neighborhood i gotta step in...

I come from a well-to-do suburban new york town (to remain nameless) & moved to Washington Heights 7 months ago after getting a job to teach in the neighborhood high school. i live a few bocks from the venue and i must say i love this neighborhood. its a unique immigrant community with friendly people, great food, & a vibe unlike any other part of the city. not once have i felt unsafe here, even after taking the A train home in the early hours of the morning. from the moment i stepped foot in the community, i felt welcome & have never had a problem. Of course there are rough areas around here, but if you mind your own business and are respectful of those around you, you have nothing to worry about.

I really think people need to open there eyes and stop judging a place & its people before they even step foot in the neighborhood...just because someone looks differently than you and comes from another country doesn't mean they are going to hurt you. i know most people don't even realize that manhattan expands beyond 72nd st, but it doesn't give you the right to trash the neighborhood. I'm ecstatic that Eddie is coming up here and am looking forward to some great shows. have some respect & don't fuck with the heights. peace

And the BBQ places sounds like a great place to eat, but it seems kinda far? 131st street and the venue is 175th? Not familiar with the area and would love to grab a bite and a drink before hand.

I think it's neither. Nobody has referred to race... apart from some mentioning the white people that will be there that night. I thought people were simply referring to Harlem being quite well known for being a rough area... which I'm pretty sure it is, correct me if I'm wrong! The fact that it's predominantly a certain race that lives there does NOT add or take away from the fact that harlem's well known for being rough :o It would be like Ed coming to Ireland and playing Limerick  I'd be far more worried about having to go to Limerick than having to go to Harlem ;) and I'm jealous of all you fuckers that are gonna be there :o

  • Saw Neil Young there last year....probably the best venue I've ever been to. The place is just unbelievable on the eyes....the entrances, the hallways, the theatre, it's just beautiful....and the sound....WOW....Neil played an acoustic set and an electric set and the acoustic set was just incredible. Words can't do it justice....I was up in the balcony pretty far back and can only imagine how nice 10c seats will be. And to people who think this neighborhood is dangerous...that's funny.

I'm coming from CT too, and i think taking the Train is going to take too long. 1+ hr into Grand Central, and then another hour probably to change trains and get upto 175th street. driving will probably be much easier/faster.

    recommend some good parking spots/garages.

There are two parking lots right near the venue....literally right around the corner. I highly suggest getting there early....the traffic and queue line was pretty long....but again, they are right there.

too long a thread to find out if my points were noted, so i will go ahead.

i saw the black crowes at the United Palace back in october. NJPAC has all those tiers, but United Palace is alot prettier and has twice the character. the neighborhood is safe, plus there was also a good police presence around the theatre.

gettting to it from NJ was a breeze ... i was out of my car in under five minutes after crossing the GWB ... those from jersey know the building, but you never knew what it was. visit the site and you will recognize the top of the building. for those who want to go via subway, the A stops a block away. i also saw a bunch of suits getting out of taxis.

as for congestion, theatre holds a little over 3K (obviously not near MSGs 20K) so it is not a mob scene.

    good luck getting tix.
I don't want to be hostile. I don't want to be dismal. But I don't want to rot in an apathetic existance either.

getting to the subway isn't the problem, its that the express train that took you there becomes a local (when it finally comes) and then you get kicked off 3 trains that you have to wait for each time before finally getting downtown
seriously, it took me over 3 hours to get back downtown
a lot different then the 45 mins to get there

any jersey people want to chip in for a limo home, pm me :)

Why don't you just take the 1 train downtown?
