Washington Heights is a New York City neighborhood in the northern reaches of the borough of Manhattan. It is named for Fort Washington, a fortification constructed by Continental Army troops during the American Revolutionary War at the highest point on Manhattan island to defend the area from the British forces. During the Battle of Fort Washington, on November 16, 1776, the fort was captured by the British at great cost to the American forces; 130 soldiers were killed or wounded, and an additional 2,700 captured and held as prisoners, many of whom died on prison ships anchored in New York Harbor. I have been to the United Palace Theatre. It looks like a shit hole from the outside on a corner in Washington Heights. The theatre is breathtaking. The church that bought it restored and if you think the Beacon Theatre or RCMH
are beautiful what till you see this place. It is jawdropping and the acoustics are tremendous. http://www.theunitedpalace.com Don't be intimitated by the neighborhood. Parking is close and there are great watering holes close by.

its a verrry scary neighborhood- things get out of control on the streets. i saw a bum kill and eat a white baby there once- and it was the middle of day! the mother was so frightened, she ran into a bodega where she never returned from again! so dont clog up ticketmaster for an hour, so I can buy my tickets easily
