I'm a practicing Catholic. What Eddie says doesn't bother me. A lot of people who hate on religion, Christianity, and Catholicism in general have credbile reasons for doing so. So many of our fellow "Christians" or "Catholics" love shoving their beliefs down other people's throats, and barely practice what they preach. They really kill it for the rest of us.

    Anyway, love thy neighbor!

reading through all the pages of this thread, wow, there are so many Catholics that have not been to mass in many many years. this weekend would be a great time for these people to get back into their parish again. there is truly something special that goes on during mass, hearing scripture, hearing how to live it during the homily, and most important, receiving the body of Christ

I was at Ed's LA1 show and what he said was only making fun of the music involved in those messages and not really the messages themselves. I would have to think that Ed is indeed a Christian and not an atheist just by looking at all of his lyrics.

This is a perfect example of why it's all too often impossible to have an intelligent and reasonable debate with a Christian... the conscious willingness to ignore all reality that doesn't jive with their pre-conceived beliefs in order to pretend that everyone else is - deep down - just like them. Even when all evidence is to the contrary.

Ed's no messiah andI dont take my religious cues from him. The Catholic church and I parted ways long before I became a huge PJ fan. But to say he's a Christian is just ridiculous.

Given the Pope visiting the U.S.....any pearl jam fans that are catholics? If so, how does some of Eddie's anti-religion views affect you?

why does eddie's opinion matter that much to you? that would be my question!

does my opinion matter as much as ed's??

is mike&jeff's opinions combined more important that just eddie's alone?

Eddies views on Jesus matter to me about as much as Jesus's views on Eddie.

I love Jesus - Hopefully Eddie will too someday

What did Eddie say against Jesus or religion, I must have missed that. I thought Given To Fly was about Jesus, and that didnt sound like an insult.
Ha! Well I thought the same about Given to fly, but people here explained me it wasn't actually.
Anyway - I raised as catholic, but I'm not sure I am now. I believe in God in my own way, and sometimes believe to much what Eddie says (or we just have the same view), so... because He is not "f****ng Messiah" i try to remember that.
I think Ed just like many of us don't believe in church. The organization I mean. And I think He believes in God (if He didn't He would not talk about religion), but He is "in conflict with God". Only my suspicions - but He behaves the same as I, and I feel exactly the way.
Not 10c member? Have sth to say? write to me - I'll put it on the forum

I think Ed has a pretty good grasp on what going on...
He always making reference to a "higher being" weather through lyrics or in actual motion or even speaking about the Environment and what surrounds us. Not being into a organized religion isn't a bad thing as long as your respect the ones who are..and If you have seen Pearl Jam: Imagine in Cornice - Live in Italy 2006 as most have he shows his respect for the church and for a country that is built around the Vatican..

    Power to the People..
FUCK! if you only hear what you wanna hear...

While I don't begrudge anyone in the band their views on religion, I am a Catholic and still love the music. I actually don't care what Ed says.

I'm Catholic and I'm not allowed to listen to Pearl Jam.
A child's rhyme stuck in my head...
It said "Life is nothing but a dream."
I've spent so many years in question
To find I'd known this all along.

Exactly. I'm catholic, but I could give a fuck what their religious views are. All i know is that PJ is the best band on the planet and I can't get enough of them.
  • I'm Catholic, still a practicing Catholic(though I haven't been to mass in a couple of months). I don't intertwine the music with my beliefs, It does sound like Ed has a lot of questions about religion in his songs, and that's o.k. It's o.k. to ask questions. right?

I'm no more a catholic, but Eddie's words have nothing to do with this conclusion of my mind. It's been simply a research of truth i started some year ago that leaded me to the conclusion that the religion (all the religions) are human handmade, to not confuse with the existence of god. I don't wanna bore you so i end it here i have to say only that everyone have to research the truth and expecially that have to use his own mind.
    Peace & love
