True. I rarely get decapitated while riding my bike or driving my truck. I'm mean, a couple of times sure, but rarely...

i am interested in seeing a photo of the suspect. one of the witnesses said he was just a normal/average guy.

    yeah, me too

and I would like to have the RCMP state whether this monster did in fact eat some of him or if this is a wild rumour

When I first heard about his I also wondered why some of the other travelers didn't try to help. I always wonder how I would have reacted. I mean.... the killer had a big knife apparently, and probably nobody else had a similar weapon - maybe a pocket knife or something. But it seems like you could have gotten baggage out of the overhead compartment and thrown it at him. If a lot of people did that with a lot of baggage maybe they could have stopped him. Or if there was a heavy tool or something to whack him in the head. But who knows? Maybe by the time that people realized what was happening the kid was dead. I feel so sorry for that boy.

Most people can't go from 0 to 'I have to stop a psycho with a big butcher knife' real quickly. Most people don't want any part of a situation with that much blood and violence and potential for bad injuries or death. I am curious as to how I would have reacted and I make no predictions.

Yeah I have a big problem with this sorta stuff. Everyone is too busy talking loudly on their mobiles or hiding under ipods and a book.

2-3 average sized males should be able to subdue such a person knife or no knife.

Six months ago I picked up an old fella on the bus who had fallen and knocked himself out. I came from the back corner and passed about 4 crowded seats to get to him. Not a fuckin soul moved and the guy was out for at least 10-15 seconds before I got to him.

As I tried to lift his 100kg frame some little asian lady gave me a filthy look for putting my hand near her leg trying to stabilise ourselves. Not one person offered to help - they all just sat there and watched or hid behind their book.

The words that came outta my mouth aimed at 15 or so individuals were nasty and I think I embarrassed a lot of people that day.

Ive lost a lot of faith in todays society with that sorta stuff.

To me is just common decency

I know you don't need to hear this, but THANK YOU for doing something and more importantly THANK YOU for telling those other fucking bastards what you thought of them. People who don't act deserve what happens to them, Karma is a bitch!

proving premeditation. If the guy just went nuts and did this, 2nd degree is all you are going to get him for.

Have you heard about the fireman in Ohio who killed 3 people shooting off fireworks on July 4th. That asshole, just walked out of his house and without warning started shooting. They couldn't prove premeditation on him either, and now he won't get the death penalty. Bull shit!

  • I just read that the victim was 5'5 and 125 lbs so maybe this guy thought he was an easy target. It is so sick I just can't understand it. I just don't know what to think about people not helping out... I read one of the comments on cbc.ca saying that someone posted audio of the event??? How can that be?? Would it be from bus security? I mean surely nobody would tape that... and NOT help. It really saddens one.

Are we sure this didn't happen in Florida or Germany???

Also, I think we need to cut the other riders some slack for running for their lives. The guy had already been stabbed probably 5-6 times with a Rambo knife. His chance of survival was slim to none. The driver was able to get everyone else off safely while trapping the killer. There must have been pure panic in confined quarters with 90% of the people waking up in the middle of the night and having no idea what is going on.

I don’t know about everyone else, but I have trouble picking out my socks and underwear when waking from a deep sleep. Overtaking a large madman with a Rambo hunting knife that is stabbing a dead body isn’t something I think my brain could process after waking up in the middle of the night.

like someone else said, 1st degree mudred is reserved for someone who planned it. This seems more random. Now, if the murderer knew the victim, and had been planning this for a while, and waited for teh right opportunity to kill him, then it's 1st degree

So, a lot of people on the bus were supposed to 1)comprehend what was happening, 2)come up with a plan amongst themselves, and 3)enact the plan all within a period of around 30 seconds? The poor kid was pretty much dead before everyone on the bus could figure out what was happening. The point should be that nobody else was killed or injured and that was about the best they could hope for at that point. Good Lord.

a great deal of Canadian law depends upon one's family history and has to do with mainly how much bacon the family eats per year and whether or not they can play hockey.

seriously. I heard penn Jillette on the radio this morning saying that if he were on the bus, he would have "ran to kentucky" and that he would not have worried about outrunning the killer, just outrunning the fattest lady on the bus.

Also based on how big their igloo is.

I read that the boy's mum couldn't be reached right away as she is on an Alaskan cruise.

Canada is the only place where people actually run towards Jason from Friday the 13th rather than away. They figure a hockey match is about to break out somewhere.
