I shouldn't imagine so. Laugh away I'm serious though, that film was ridiculous. What was the point to it? It was basically exactly the same as Zeffirelli's Jesus of Nazareth but more brutal and gory. I swear, Mel Gibson gets off on that shit. And nobody give me any crap about it trying to "show us what it was like and ram the point home". I'm perfectly aware how unpleasant such a death must be. I don't need to watch some glorified S&M film to show me
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"

And so the lion fell in love with the lamb...,"
"What a stupid lamb."
"What a sick, masochistic lion."
I don't think it was silly to be honest. It's probably pretty accurate if the accounts of the event we have are correct. I should imagine that such a punishment was common. It was a completely unnecessary film though.

That makes two of us.
All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.

I guess, if you believe in that sort of thing. I'm sure the punishment was very common ...

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm a staunch atheist I just mean that I'm sure the film is an accurate depiction of the punishment that would be afforded to a man claiming to be the Son of God.

yes, crucifixion was very common in those times....
it was meant to be very painful and gruesome to try to dissuade others from committing the same crime...also leaving the body hanging does not allow for burial, which in some cultures is very dishonorable

you could say the same thing about any movie that depicts death or horrific circumstances. guess you don't like those either?
although being a believer or non-believer in Christianity doesn't change the fact that this punishment was widely used in ancient times by the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, and other cultures

No, death and horrific circumstances are fine if there is some point to them and to the film. The Passion of the Christ is basically a film that has been made several times before, just with added gore. The entire focus is on the brutality. I have no problem with shocking art, I felt physically sick after watching Gaspar Noe's Irreversible but I still appreciated it and what it was attempting to say. I just didn't find this particular film very artistic. It was just cheap shocks designed to garner publicity.

Of course, I never denied that. That is, in fact, the purpose of this thread.
