Time for a thread revival. The Sox have looked decent thus far. Dice-K is extremely over-hyped at this point, but I think he's the real deal. I'm just getting a little tired of all the media focusing on him constantly. I'm not excited about the prospect of Timlin being the closer this year. Theo should have gone out and gotten a quality guy in the off-season. The move of Papelbon to the rotation is gonna be a good one, however. I watched him a couple games last spring training in Fort Myers when he was in the starter's role and he looked very solid. I'm excited about the potential of the team for this year. The starting lineup is very solid and the starting rotation is top-notch. The bullpen is the only thing scaring me at this point. I'm really missing living in Fort Myers this time of year. I was only there for 6 months but spring training was awesome last year. I lived 1/2 mile from the Twins complex and less than 10 miles from the Sox. Needless to say, it was a lot of fun...
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

I never really liked Foulke , he didn't seem like he had any intensity.
Im more fired up about the great seats I just got. Let the season begin!!

Ichiro vs Matsuzaka (hopefully)
how on earth did he even get people out with a 85 MPH fastball and a 79 MPH change up? WTF? just lucky I guess.
He was a jerkoff who would rather play hockey anyway. He stinks now and should retire. Christ, I could knock his best stuff off the flag pole in center.
All that's sacred, comes from youth....dedications, naive and true.
I loved Foulke. He was nails when it counted in 04. Have his t-shirt and wear it proudly. It's all about arm action masking fb/chane up and late movement on his fastball.
Only true concern is the bullpen. I think they'll get it figured out. Knowing the Sox I can predict that Manny will be Manny, Ortiz will mash, the Starters will flounder and the pen will be outstanding. It is always the oppostie of the pre-season worries.
Well, it looks like Timlin might not be our best option:

Timlin back on shelf
By Gordon Edes, Globe Staff
It had become fashionable in recent days to speculate that the Sox were leaning toward making Mike Timlin the closer coming out of camp, which seemed a bit of a reach since Timlin had yet to appear in a game this spring.
It becomes even more of a reach after Terry Francona told reporters in Clearwater this morning that Timlin's scheduled appearance tomorrow in Lakeland has been scratched amid lingering concerns about his strained side muscle.
Timlin had strained the muscle while throwing live BP while the team was still at the minor league facility, and now he's been pushed back for at least another week, Francona said. He underwent another MRI yesterday, and evidently there were sufficient grounds for concern not to push him at this stage.
Timlin had shoulder problems last season, a direct result of his participation in the World Baseball Classic, according to Francona, and he turns 41 tomorrow. Only Mike Stanton and Jose Mesa have made more appearances among major leaguers active through 2006 than Timlin, who last season made a club-leading 68 appearances despite a 16-day stint on the DL. Two years ago, he made a club-record 81 appearances, and there is obvious reason to wonder when Timlin will reach the outer end of his baseball mortality.
The Sox made some roster cuts today, sending Jacoby Ellsbury, David Pauley, Edgar Martinez, Chadd Spann and Luis Jimenez back to minor-league camp, which officially opens Sunday with the fist full workout.
Terry Francona and Curt Schilling both plan to attend funeral services Tuesday for John Vukovich, the long-time Phillies coach who died yesterday of complications stemming from inoperable brain cancer. Schilling will pitch a simulated game that night upon his return.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

I hope Theo makes a trade for a closer like Chad Cordero who is young(24) and has some good numbers 29 saves 215 baa. Joel Pinero would be better off in the pen.
Yeah, they went to game 7 of the ALCS and Gump DIDNT bring in a reliever.
I still say sticking with Pedro was the correct decision. Go ahead and rip me. I dont give a fuck. Pedro was and always will be the man. He made a great pitch to Godzilla and he turned on it and ripped it down the line. It was great hitting. The Posada hit was garbage though.
You got to have a dominant closer. It gives the whole team confidence that a lead is safe.

Papelbon will close
Jonathan Papelbon and Terry Francona confirmed this afternoon that the club is abandoning the experiment to convert him to a starter and that he will continue as the team's closer.
Heading over in a bit to check out Dice-K today in Philly.
It's one of the few times it pays off to be a diehard Red Sox fan in Philly.
Have fun over there. I'm pumped about the start of the season. Papelbon is definitely the best choice at closer.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

I can't wait to catch Dice K in person wednesday. Anyone else heading over to the game??
I'll be there too.
I hope there is a similar score as today. That was an easy one to predict , seeing as Weaver suuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks. My guess was actually 10-1, so I was close.
why not start a thread for the new season, like Bosox 07, instead of reading shit from last year.
Because this is where the Sox fans hang out from time to time here in the Pit. No need to start a new thread, this one works just fine. Just jump right to the end and things will be ok. That being said, the boys looked mighty good today in the home opener, 14-3 over the M's. Another very solid outing from Beckett. I hope this is a sign of things to come after a disappointing '06 season...
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.
