The Red Sox style is both a blessing and a curse. They wear pitchers out working counts, but they really make the game longer by doing so.

3-0 lead and the Red Sox first 6 game winning streak all season which is kinda crazy when you realize they won 106 games this year counting the playoffs.

The Sox had never won more than 5 games in a row or lost more than 4 in a row all season. Tito's approach of taking each game one at a time really shines through with this team.

You obviously didn't play too much baseball cause when have you come up against a player hitting over 700. I averaged 734 in A League Slow Pitch Softball Prince Georges County in 2001 then 726 in 2002 to be exact.

I pitched also too in baseball and anyone who comes out and says I couldn't hit 300 and has never seen me play has no no clue about the game.

However the real deal here is the domination of the Red Sox. In yesteryear they may have faltered after the 3 run homerun but not this Red Sox team.

They have been special this year since I saw them on opening day at Spring Training down in Fort Myers, FL. back in March.

    Peace.

  • I hate to agree, but I have to. The Rockies pull within 1, then get the next guy on, nobody out, and the Rockies attack plan is: two whiffs? Then the Sox open it right back up. I love Hawpe, he made me some money in rotisserrie this year, but holy shit, what did he he do during the 8 day layoff? Go to Aruba? The Sox obviously have something very special going on here. As a yankee fan, I can only hope the Rockies are the 2nd team ever to come back from a 3-0 deficit.

I hear ya, I hear ya that's why you'll NEVER EVER see me celebrate before that last out is done. I wouldn't want to see what happened to the Yanks happen to the RS. Looks like the Yanks will try hard and sign A-Rod.

  • funny you bring that up. I remember talking to a friend the day after the Yankees won Game 3. (I watched the Game 3 19-8 blowout during my surprise 30th birthday party) I said: I hope they win it tonight, so they don't even give them a chance of getting back into it. My friend agreed wholeheartedly. I remember reading an article in the paper after the series was over. The author blamed himself for the Yankees losing. Due to work obligations, he had to go to bed early Sunday night (Game 4) so he hoped the Red Sox won that game, just so he could be awake to see the Yankees win in Game 5
  • g under pg under p Posts: 18,196
Speaking of that series.....on that Saturday while at my daughter's soccer I felt relieved in a way being down 3-0. So another parent who knew I was a diehard Sox fan said well it's over huh, not knowing what really to say I just told him "Shiiit It ain't over till it's over".

Went back home and atually watched and enjoyed the series even though I had that Godfather III feeling, "Every time I try to get out they pull me back IN" you know how the Sox tend to tease one. However, it seemed all the tension and anxiety was gone and RS went on to win. The next Saturday I just went up to him smiled and shock his hand and told him I don't believe what they just did.

After they won it all I told him I'm good for Championships for the next 10 years just as long as they can keep up with the Yankees. A feeling I'll never forget just like the awful feeling of 86' Series with the fricking METS man I disliked that team. :)

Cold beer never tastes so good as when the Sox are winning.

Lowell will be back unless he makes a crazy 4 year 12-14 million dollar a year demand. Plus he's good friends with Beckett and really seems to enjoy playing in Boston. His career resurrected here.

The Sox have approximately 50-53 million coming off their payroll at the end of the season. Clement, Gagne, Hinske, Donnelly, Mirabelli, Kielty and Pineiro's contracts all are up at the end of the year. So is Schilling and Lowell's and I think both will be back. Timlin is up as well and I think he may have one more year left in him. And the Sox have option years on Taverez and Wakefield.

Why on earth would you want Lowell and "Paint Sock" back? Lowell is showing his age on the defensive end, and really his offense is what an above average 3rd baseman should do playing 81 games at Fenway -which is why any talk of him and MVP is stupid. Schilling is a shell of his former self (read: has rarely gone deep into games this postseason), and will be asking for more monies.

With 50-53 million coming off payroll it seems obvious to me what the Sawx should do...get the best player in baseball A-Rod for ($30 million) or wait for the best pitcher in baseball Johan Santana ($28 million), then fill in where they need to. So if they go for Santana then fine re-sign Lowell. Or if they go for A-Rod, then get some "Brandon" Arroyo type to fit Paint Sock's roll. I say they should go for A-Rod their rotation (assuming Wakefield retires like a gentlemen) will set up like this already:
    1. Beckett (18 wins if healthy)
    2. Daisuke (15-18 wins depending on improvement)
    3. Buckholtz (10-18 wins depending on injury+innings)
    4. Lester (8-14 wins depending on luck which he got a lot of last year)
    5. With approximately 65-75 wins out of the other 4 you could put me in here and they are going to the playoffs.

Look I am no fan of the sox but I can say that your team will be a lot better if they dump Lowell and Shilling for the Rodded one. Besides with that staff the line up would be like this:

    1. Ellsbury CF (good leadoff game as long as he can run)
    2. Padroia 2B (a.k.a. Pokey Reese as a Red)
    3. Ortiz DH (better hitter now than in '04)
    4. Rodriguez 3B (best player in baseball and its not really close)
    5. Ramirez LF (the only thing that makes the '07 sox watchable)
    6. Youkilis 1B (a.k.a. Doug Mientkiwicz as a Twin)
    7. Drew RF (a.k.a. the token white outfielder the sawx always have)
    8. Varitek C (people should be on perma-steal vs. this candy arm)
    9. Lugo (a.k.a. latest in a long line of sucky Sawx shortstops)

I guess you don't watch much baseball if you think Lowell is showing his age on defense.

Schilling wants a one year deal. Here are his exact words from the Red Sox message board: "It's not any different than it was at the beginning of the year. This is my first choice, I want a one year deal and it will be a deal that works for the team and myself. If it's other than Boston then the dollars will be a significant factor, along with the teams ability to contend, or field an incredibly talented blend of young players that are on the cusp of being very good. I would like to think a serious contender would be interested if Boston doesn't work out, but if for some reason that doesn't happen then I'd really like to be a part of a talented group of young up and coming pitchers that want to win."

If you pay him his 12-13 million again for one year, you still have the money to go after Santana, Sheets or Sabathia next year who are all potential free agents.

I'm only going to briefly address the Lowell fielding knock, but he has had a better zone factor and range factor than A-Rod the last 2 years and if hitting at Fenway is so easy, why did he break the team record for rbis for a 3b last season?

Reese was always a horrible hitter with a below average OPS and never a higher than .330 OBP in even his best season. A Pokey Reese type player would never be a full time starter on a Red Sox team that likes to work counts unless he was an injury stop gap which was the case in 04. Reese's best year was an OPS+ of 86 which is 14% below league average of a typical player regardless of position. Pedroia's as a rookie was 112 which is 12% higher than the average player. And don't forget you have to account league factors as Reese had his "great" season in the inferior National League.
