Ortiz is hardly A-rod. I think he's worthy of Jeter-ish or Mariano Rivera-type of respect for a great career, but WTF do I know. If I was at Fenway when those two Yankees were honored, I'da stood up and acted like an adult, not a fan of a team that probably should be contracted.
The team is honoring him on the field, and would have been regardless of record.
we used to call it Memorial stadium...Sullivan/Schaefer/Foxboro stadium is where the Patriots used to suck.
That's right Memorial Stadium, we would sit out on the bleachers where the seats were wooden. Loved that old place we would have to drive through parts of Bmore coming from the south to get to it. Then park at people's houses for $5 bucks or wherever we could find a spot....great fun.
Yeah I got the places mixed up I've been to Sullivan/Schaefer Stadium in Foxboro and yes the Patriots were bad but strangely exciting. I was just a youngster and just loved that old logo.....which I felt was the best in the NFL.

Lol on the Jeter and Mo comparisons.
A tested positive 'roider who complains about everything all the time...fuck outta here...
I am sure he is a swell dude. Players seem to love him. But nah, quit lying about steroids and crying every time something doesn't go your way. The speech after the bombing was awesome though.
With Ortiz retiring I wonder who all the Red Sox haters will dislike the most starting in 2017. Hanley??
I've always disliked pedroia but I don't imagine he'll be around much longer either. true or no?

He is signed for 5 more years. Ortiz will even say that he is the true leader of the team. I think he will be the first captain of the Sox since Varitek. He is everything that is great about baseball and signed for far less to stay with the Sox. A guy that gives a 100% on EVERY pitch and does all the little things to win a game. He will be on the Sox until he retires since he has 10-5 rights. If he can stay healthy he will be in the hall of fame.
i dont know about that, I remember that game distinctly and he was getting squeezed all night, and that phone got effing destroyed...
O's fans are a strange lot. They're super put off by the fact the park is a third full of Sawwks fans, when most of their own town isn't even remotely interested, judging by the attendance. They consistently boo pitcher/catcher conferences AND throws to first (so stupid, Nationals fans as well). AND they repeatedly blow their own horn as the "best fans in the game". I heard more Go back to Boston (like that's bad...) and Brady Blows, and cheater comments and flat out boos whenever Ortiz was on the field. PF Classy.
side note...I saw more Tom Brady/Gronk/Patriots shirts yesterday (12, I counted) than Ravens gear combined (absolutely ZERO, none).
When I lived up in MD I went to many O's games both the old stadium (was it called Sullivan Stadium where the old Colts played as well) and Camden Yards. That was from the late 80's through the 2000's and for the most part the was usually packed. The O's were hardly a factor in the east division then but they had CAL. Many Sox fans were there but after 2004 the Yards got crazy with Sox fans. Tickets in Boston I gather became hard to get so fans I talked to would take vacations to cities the Sox played. Around that time the Sox became MLBs largest road attendance draw.
On the booing of Ortiz, what do you expect them to say.....here we welcome you to our home even though we suck! I'd boo too, just as long as they bring no violence towards me or anything else physical that's their right to boo the invaders. In fact I would eat up the cheater comments and anything else they had to say as long as they kept it clean if I my young daughter with me. Why, because that would mean the Patriots and the Sox were winning and in the end that's what matters.
Peace
I use to go down to see the Sox in the 80's when the O's played at Memorial Stadium and ther was always a lot of Sox fans at the game.
Comparing Papi to Aroid is just stupid. Aroid took a one year suspension and came back a former shell of himself. It's obvious he PED'ed. The way he was dismissed versus Papi's continued performance with the scrutiny? 540 home runs, how many of those since he was supposedly one of the one hundred? So he doesn't play the field? Have you seen his swing? Same ole same ole. See Aroid's? Particularly when the games on the line with runners in scoring position? He looked like he was wondering if he ate his gummy bears. And did papi ever try to swipe the ball awAy as he ran to first or call "I Got It" as he rounded third? Fuck Aroid. NYC doesn't respect him whereas Papi will always be loved by the city of Boston. Especially because of 2013.

I would agree with all of that, Ortiz will have his number retired whereas AROD I don't think they put him in monument park. Hell Ortiz could possibly win the 2016 MVP and if he does that will be an unheard of feat for a player in his final year. Btw love that Otiz highlights, he brutalized that O's phone.

I don't think this is overstating anything but this might be the greatest offensive team of all time. Fuck the 29 Yanks.
I know Wobbie would agree.
cough cough....it was the '27 yanks. '29 yanks finished 18 games back
but you're a sox fan, so I wouldn't expect any real perspective.

I think that tonight's game is a good indication for how the postseason is going to play out.
Yup, they may have peaked at the wrong time and I still don't think the pitching is playoff caliber. That said, I hope they prove me wrong so Papi can hoist the WS trophy on the stage with tom Brady as he hoists the SB and MVP trophies.

I think anything is possible once the AL Playoffs start. I think every team in the AL have their warts. Sox could get Swept in the ALDS or make it to the WS.
The Sox went from worst in the East to first. The last two times they won the East division the went on to win the World Series. Congratulations to the Sox I hope they can continue their winning ways. GO SOX!

I love how the people who live here and actually watch the Sox play every night have a realistic view of their chances in the postseason and the displaced Red Sox fans (and dickheads like Wob) think we're being negative.
At any rate, I can't wait to watch how it all unravels. I hope we win it all, but I've been through enough losses this season that were eerily similar to last night's (i.e., bullpen shitting the bed) to curb my enthusiasm.
I've got Sunday's game and the first ALDS game at Fenway. Should be a blast!

It cannot be a surprise to you that Papi runs on Dunkin. Gronk, too.
