anyway, I never go at the weekend, too expensive...tuesday night at Cineworld Wandsworth, £4.50 :) (or over days at Vue with a reduc card for £6.50..you catch me paying £8-10 for a bloody cinema ticket unless it's a very special screening i.e. festival)

The cinema is where you go with a group of friends or your date. I wouldn't even go to the movies with a male friend because that would look really gay. And anybody who goes to the movies by themselves look like really big losers. That's just the way I see it.

The cinema is where you go when you want to see a film. There's no set rules as to who you must go with.

Chances are, the people who go on their own don't really give a shit if they look like losers, as they don't need constant validation from others.

That's just the way I see it. :)

    Amen to that.

Cause you don't have to wait for other people to make up their mind on what they want to do.

....or fight with them over where to go. If everybody does their own thing, that's fine... but over my dead body will anyone drag me somewhere I don't wanna go when I could be doing much cooler things.

If faced with the choice... I would rather wait until the film is released on DVD and watch it at home than subject myself to an embarrassing night at the cinema alone. With me, it's either a date, a group of friends or nothing. Period. I have NEVER gone to the movies alone, and never will.

To me, thats says more about your insecurity than anything else. Why care so much if everyone else thinks you're a "loser"? And why is it embarassing? I bet most people wouldn't even notice.

I'm not trying to piss you off, just sharing my feelings on the subject.

Most people wouldn't notice? Are you kidding me? Being alone at a cinema makes you stick out like a sore thumb. You're SUPPOSED to go with friends or your girlfriend. Being alone or with just one friend at the movies makes you look strange, especially on weekends.

And trust me, I'm far from insecure. I go to many places alone if I have no one else to go with... just not the movies.

why do you care if they notice? you're supposed to go with how you want or by yourself if you want.. thats why cinemas sell individual tickets and not pairs.

and being with just one friend makes you look weird... why?... is your friend Gay Gary who licks his face all the time and wears a pink tutu?...

Where exactly is this law stated? Who says you have to go with other people?

I've been to the movies with a male friend. He actually is gay. I never realised that everyone else must now think i'm gay. Perhaps that's because they don't...and if they did I wouldn't give a shit anyway.

p.s. last time i heard someone using the words 'queer' and 'fags' were actually gay...

i've realised you cant go to the cinema alone cos you have to go with groups of other guys to watch pornos... this is because you have no girlfriend and you're ugly.

That was such a stupid comment that it isn't worth responding to. Notice how everyone responding is from Europe. Where *I* live, the social norms are different.

Perhaps you missed the lesson on the fact that high school and college do not represent real life. Most people grow out of the immature trends that bound them during their teen years. Guess not everyone though.

i leant the facts of life when i was 15... which is just when you were learning that Star Trek was not real life.

I have 2 kids... i know the facts of life... and if one of them was gay and you shouted what you said you'd shout then i'd stab you in the face with a sword.

High school is a microcosm of real life when it comes to reputation and relationships. Obviously, people change and grow over the years, but the underlying social structure remains the same, as do social norms. Is that the way I necessarily WANT it to be? No, but that's the way it is. That said, I would never want to be seen at a cinema alone and nothing you say will alter my opinion on this matter.

I live in America... not in Europe, where men hug each other in public, and even kiss each other on the cheek, and think nothing of it. So obviously going to the cinema with a friend wouldn't look as strange on *your* side of the pond.

that means you care what people think about you... which makes you insecure and immature.

i go where i want alone cos i'm a big boy and i've decided not to give a fuck about 3 geeky cunts standing laughing at me going into the cinema alone... i'm content in the knowledge that when i was their age i had had sex with a real girl instead of fucking a bag of gently warmed liver.

San Francisco is the gay capital of the world... all your sports players hug each other... Phildelphia had a filmed named after it in which a gay guy dies or something.

you live in the gayest country in the world... i live in Scotland where people fight each other just to get a seat at the bar.

btw a bar is a drinking establishment... its where us grown ups go.. sometimes we go alone... but other times stupid fat americans who think all of europe is gay point and laugh at us... then they die.

honestly I can understand where you're coming from... before I ever went to the cinema on my own, before I learned not to give a shit what others thought and realised that they don't even think about me all that much... before all that I used to think it would be a really uncomfortable experience. Trust me, it's not! And I've noticed it becoming more and more the norm... when I first started going on my own, there'd be a few other people on their own... now half the cinema seem to be on their own and now i don't even think twice about it. I wouldn't normally go on a Friday or Saturday night on my own cos I usually have stuff to do... but I have done. Yep, it seems to be more full of young people out on dates but I still don't feel out of place or think that people are looking at me or anything.

It really is NOT anything like you think... like I've said I'd much prefer to go on my own now.

Well, that's the biggest pile of shit I've ever heard. On any given week I'll got to the cinema twice or more. Sometimes I go with friends, sometimes I don't. About half and half probably. I see a hell of a lot of people going on their own, and I don't find it strange in the slightest. I go because I'm a film fan, not because I'm a loser. Same goes for concerts and the like. I know a lot of people are a little insecure going on their own, and that's ok, but don't put down people who aren't insecure about it.

Well I think it says more about the person looking at you THINKING you're a loser (if these people exist) than it says about you or me hitch! Why would they think somebody like that is a loser? Cos it's something they wouldn't do themselves... and what possible reason would they have for not doing it themselves? Insecurity perhaps. If someone DOES look down on me for that, well they have issues and I feel sorry for them.

Also, there is a chance that this could be more common in Ireland or the UK than many other countries... it's not a big deal in Dublin anyway for someone to go to the cinema on their own.
