The BCS will be fun this year

UGA had their chance and blew it against South Carolina and Tennessee and had to rely on other teams to allow Georgia to go to the SEC Championship. Since that didn't happen, Georgia should be out.
NOW.....should the impossible happen, the only way Georgia could make it up is by winning and winning big. Even then, it would still be largely contested. Really, my current problem with the system is that Georgia has been projected all week to play Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl, and while I'm happy that they are being considered for a BCS bowl, I would rather not have a rematch from last year. They played that game last year, and to be honest, I would rather see them play a different team......perhaps in a certain California city.
i have to say, usc-georgia in the rose bowl would probably be the best matchup in the bcs.0 -

I agree, and thats what it should be. LSU-OSU, and GA-USC. This season is a mess, I hope they at least give us a couple of appealing BSC matchups.0 -

They hate the WAC because the WAC sucks. IF not for Boise beating Oklahoma last year, nobody would care about the WAC. Hawaii is struggling with a mid level pac 10 team on their home field, and had a couple of really close game against WAC teams with losing records. The WAC is not good, they just dont play anyone.0 -

You can't say they aren't good, unless they are given the chance to play "good/better" teams. Like you said, Boise St. proved everyone wrong last year....why not pit Hawaii against Ohio State in a title game? If Hawaii were to win, it would change the whole BCS way of thinking. An ideal scenario would be for Hawaii to get LSU in the Sugar Bowl....because everyone thinks LSU are gods this year...and Hawaii win with LSU basically at home....if that would play out we just may get a playoff system."It's all happening"0 -

Michigan State this year reneged on a 4 year old contract to play at Hawaii this year and had to pay Hawaii $250,000. Because they reneged so late on their agreement, Hawaii couldn't find another BCS school to take that slot and had to play a I-AA team instead. Not saying that Michigan State is great, but when schools refuse to play them and break contracts to play them - you really can't blame Hawaii.
They also had tried to get a home and home with Florida but Florida was against it this year, but they were all in favor of hosting Hawaii next year after Colt Brennan is gone. Next year Hawaii is playing at Florida and Oregon State and hosting Washington State in non-conference play.- Busted down the pretext

Because they are struggling on there homefield against a team OSU beat on the road by 20. Im not saying they arent good, Im saying they arent top tier level.
And I probably have a better chance of making Scarlett Johanson falling in love with me than Hawaii would have at beating LSU.0 -

I know you weren't blaming Hawaii. I was just trying to explain how Hawaii got screwed out of a quality game and also tried to schedule Florida and basically the big boys from the BCS conferences said no to them so they got stuck playing the schedule they had to and now people are holding it against them.
I'm not sure if they should be playing in the BCS title game - frankly I think last year's Boise State team had a much better argument for that because they were a lot better than this Hawaii team - but they should be rewarded with a BCS game for what they accomplished this year. If they wind up winning this game, people shouldn't complain about them going to the Sugar Bowl. Personally, I think it's great when schools from the smaller conferences get a chance to compete with the big boys.- Busted down the pretext

Yes, Hawaiis location sucks for recruiting. But ya know what, so does North Dakota's. Schedule and beat good teams, win your conference, and then they have a discussion. Struggling to beat Nevada and a mid level Pac 10 team in Washington should not be the standard for a national title.0 -
Everyone on this thread has valid points, which is why the BCS system is soooo frustrating. The Playoff system is needed more than ever."It's all happening"0

I dont disagree with that. But in saying that, Hawaii shouldnt be in the discussion. The system in place is flawed, but it is a system. Dont lose much, beat good teams, and hope it works out. Hawaii hasnt lost much, and can hope it works out, but they didnt beat good teams. And, they also struggled with 3 WAC teams with losing records, and a mid level Pac 10 team who OSU beat by 20. If LSU isnt in the championship and we get a LSU-Hawaii championship game, it will be embarrassing I think.0 -

maybe they can just give Colt Brennan the Heisman, and not a BCS game, and that would satisfy them......he's threw for like 85% tonight for well over 400 yards again."It's all happening"0 -

I disagree with that too. One, he missed several games. And 2, he didnt play the competition that Tebow or McFadden played. Nothing against Brennan or Hawaii, but you have to prove it. ANd you dont prove your worth (either from a team or individual perspective) playing mid level competition.
I dont have a problem with them in a BCS bowl, but they shouldnt be in consideration for the national title.0 -
Now that Hawaii won, here are my predictions for the Bowls:
BCS Championship Game:
Ohio State vs. LSU
Rose Bowl
USC vs. Illinois
Orange Bowl
West Virginia vs. Virginia Tech
Fiesta Bowl
Oklahoma vs. Arizona State
Sugar Bowl
Georgia vs. Hawaii
This is because with the SEC and Big Ten Champion going to the BCS Championship Game - The Rose Bowl will probably take Illinois to keep the Pac-10 and Big 10 rivalry. The Sugar will most likely take Georgia to replace LSU in the Sugar Bowl because they have last pick of the at larges and will need a team from their conference to have a big draw vs. Hawaii. The Orange Bowl has first pick of at larges - (5 of the BCS conferences have Bowl tie ins the Big East does not) and will take West Virginia because WV and VT used to be rivals in the Big East. And the Fiesta has the next at large pick and will probably take Arizona State because the game is in Arizona and the only other at large teams that would be eligible would be Missouri and Kansas and you don't want two Big 12 teams playing each other in a Bowl Game. And that would leave the Sugar Bowl with having to take Hawaii.- Busted down the pretext

That would make more sense and be a better game, but the Rose Bowl hates to give up the Big 10 vs. Pac 10 matchup.
The only reason it took Texas over Cal to replace USC for the 2005 Rose Bowl was because Texas finished in the top 4 and was guaranteed a BCS game and Utah finsihed in the top8 and also was guaranteed a game. There were only 4 BCS games and 2 at large teams so the Rose Bowl couldn't take Cal who finished at 5.
Given that the Rose Bowl can keep the Big 10 Pac 10 matchup intact . I see them taking Illinois to replace Ohio state in the Rose Bowl.- Busted down the pretext

Gonna drop two pennies into the thread.
I've watched pretty much every major college game this year. I bartend on Saturday nights, so granted I don't get to see ALL of the action in the later games, but I'm lazy so I usually end up sitting around watching them anyway. That being said, I'm going to say that LSU is the best team in college football this year.
Two losses, BOTH in TRIPLE OVERTIME! They played in what is arguably the toughest conference in football this year (if not a close second to the Big12). They beat the probably Heisman winner (Tebow in Fla.), they the ACC Conf. Champs (VaTech), and their only losses were to Kentucky by 6 (who was 7-1 at the time), and Arkansas by 2 (who always put up a good game in conference).
That being said. I truly think that Ohio State does NOT deserve to play for a championship. They will however, and only by default. It's sad that the Big 10 will send a team to the BCS Championship, really sad. A conference of completely overrated teams, which was almost won by Michigan (the first top 25 team EVER to lose to a I-AA team, and Michigan was ranked 5..).
The Big 10 needs to grow a pair and either a) pick up another team and have a conf. championship or b) drop a team so everybody plays everybody.
Also I am in no way an SEC fan boy, although my next statement doesn't help my case but... Georgia is the second best team in the country, behind LSU. Georgia finished the season 10-2 and did not get to play for the SEC Championship because of a loss to Tennessee (who was 9-4).
Either way, I hope OSU gets crushed by whoever they end up playing.Abraham Lincoln once said, "If you are a racist, I will attack you with the North."0 -

no, you dont sound like an sec fanboy at all...
i think the best 2 teams are georgia and usc. lsu won half their games by miracle comebacks and got lucky with 2 interceptions to win that championship. i'd say they're the most over-rated team out there.
that said, despite being a buckeye fan and alum, there's no way we're one of the best 2 teams in the country. they had damn well better be ready to play this year if they don't want to be humiliated again.
what the big ten needs to do is move their schedule back. add a bye week like everyone else. the pac-10 doesn't have a conference championship, but they're still playing this weekend. the big ten needs to suck it up and do the same. they can add a bye and another conference game, have almost everyone play almost everyone, and still end with osu-michigan if they want. there are way too many 1-aa opponents in big ten play becos they HAVE to beat up huge on teams early to make up for the fact that they all sit round with thumbs up their asses for the last 2 weeks of the season. it's ridiculous. the big ten is fucking themselves.0
