Man, I hope this isn't BS. It would be nice to see PJ without having to travel 1000 miles for once.

Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

I've never been, but the ACL festival is a lot like Lolla.

You can get three day passes or a single day pass. It is in a huge park.

People from Austin can probably answer this better so correct me if I am off please.

The ACL TV show is a separate thing.

can you shed some light in to how this would work. The only ACL stuff I have ever seen is the stuff that is on TV, which appears to be in small venues with video cameras. I can't imagine Pearl Jam doing that ... so ... I assume there is also a festival-like portion to the ACL that is similar to Lolla - a large field within the city limits? I apologize in advance for my ignorance :)

do you think Mike meant the ACL festival or the ACL tv show recording?

The festival Mr Beer Baron (still one of my fav names on this board :D ) about 4 days long and many bands play in clubs and other venues during the period.

The TV show that airs weekly is in a special show recorded to be aird on the Austin City Limits show that airs weekly on PBS.

PJ has never done either and i think they should!

No, that's SXSW you're thinking of. That's in a month and will be over four days in a bunch of clubs (REM at Stubbs! Yay!)

ACL Fest is in September and is pretty much just like Lolla, three days in a big field with a bunch of stages. Wristband for all three days or individual tix for each day.

Oh, and most big bands that play the festival also tape a show for the PBS broadcast, so that would be a bonus.

I will agree, however, that Beer Baron is an awesome name.

    "I'll get you, Beer Baron!"
    "No you won't"
    "Yes I will!"

    "...Nope..."
  • i don't buy it till i see it for my own eyes. but living in austin, i have my fingers crossed. the lawnchairs will be problem though.. just saying. in 4 years at ACL, ive never seen anything close to a pit type crowd.

Did you go last year? I thought the lawn chairs were much less of a problem, they moved the line where the chairs start back a ways. I was able to walk right up to Dylan 30 minutes before he started, I was NEVER able to do that in years past with the headliner. It was pretty funny to see the old folks' reaction to not being able to park a lawn chair right up front. I think you should either be uncomfortable and up front, or comfortable and in the back. It's a fair trade off.

If they were to tape the TV show, imagine how difficult that ticket would be to get.

yeah, but there are always folks who ignore that line. some dont even see it. it would have to be scrictly enforced for pj.

Actually, ACL (the show) tickets are given away, but you have to be in Austin to get one. They tell you a place and a time to be and they hand them out. I've never actually gone to a taping, so I don't know how hard it is to get one.

now tennesee I can drive to, texas is a little far for me, where are all the NE shows!?! jk

but seriously, I think it's really cool that they are trying to do more festivals and bring it back, more bands will follow festival tours if huge names like pj are playing them, i'm tellin ya it's their master scheme!
Wouldn't it be funny if the world ended in 2010, with lots of fire?

I would have no problem being a civilian enforcer. I would be happy to kick an old hippy out of his lawn chair.

is there any point in hoping and crossing my nuts for a euro date or two??

I mean we have done ok recently but not so much in the UK....4 dates (5 if you include Dublin) in 8 years is hardly prolific...............The Us dates in 2003, 2005 and 2006 were way more substantial

so a few Uk dates would really hit the spot.....PLEASE....
