I don't think this was posted yet, Sanchez out of UFC 90, Koscheck to take his place.
I really wanted to see Sanchez v Alves, it would have been a good fight, but I think Alves is going to dominate Kos, just like he did with Hughes.

Sanchez Out; Koscheck Steps in to Face Alves at UFC 90 By Thomas Gerbasi
Welterweight contender Diego Sanchez has been forced to withdraw from his UFC 90 bout against Thiago Alves due to torn rib cartilage, but the October 25th co-feature bout is not lost, as standout 170-pounder Josh Koscheck has stepped up to face Brazil’s “Pitbull” in an equally intriguing welterweight matchup.
“There is nothing worse than having a great fight and then having one of the fighters drop out at the last second,” said UFC President Dana White. “But the one thing the UFC has proven time and time again is our ability to replace fights with ones as good as or better than the original fight, and we’ve done it again with the highly-ranked Josh Koscheck stepping up to replace Diego Sanchez against welterweight wrecking machine Thiago Alves. Hats off to Josh and Thiago, as not many fighters would agree to a matchup this tough on such short notice.”
A native of Fortaleza, Brazil, who now makes his home in Coconut Creek, Florida, the 25-year old Alves (21-4) is currently riding a six fight winning streak that includes knockout victories over Matt Hughes and Karo Parisyan. But he will be put to the test by Koscheck next week.
“Josh Koscheck is a great fighter and I think he’s an even better matchup for me,” said Alves. “I’m looking forward to fighting him, and I’m gonna knock him out.”
Fresno, California’s Koscheck (13-2), a 2001 NCAA Division I wrestling champion, is on a bit of a winning streak himself, having stopped Dustin Hazelett and decisioned Chris Lytle already in 2008. A win over Alves will put the 30-year old even closer to a shot at the welterweight crown, but first things first, and his focus is squarely on his October 25th foe.
“I think he’s a tough opponent,” said Koscheck. “He’s on a tear right now in the UFC and for me to step up and fight him, I think it’s gonna be an exciting fight. I’ve been in training since Chris Lytle, I haven’t taken any time off, and he’s a tough guy, so I’ve got to come in and fight him at my ‘A’ game.”
Tickets for UFC 90, which is headlined by the UFC middleweight title bout between Anderson Silva and Patrick Cote, are on sale now.

So after watching GSP kick Trigg's ass, I tried to catch a couple more fights by St. Pierre and I saw him fight Jon Fitch. Even though Fitch lost, I was impressed by his chin and how he stood up to GSP's brutal beatdown in the first round.
I also caught an Arlovski fight.. dude's definitely ripped, but can he put up a fight against Fedor?Whoa, chill bro... you know you can't raise your voice like that when the lion's here.0 -

+1/2 , mammasan!i like anderson, but i have to cheer for patrick this time around. i'm with you on thiago, of course. muay thai! good luck to anderson, patrick is in for one hell of a challenge.
thanks for the post, followmyway. i cannot wait for alves to face koscheck now. sanchez vs. alves was one fight i was really looking forward to, but seeing koscheck lose would be very gratifying, especially to a flying knee from thiago!0 -

fitch showed huge heart in that fight. seldom is a one sided fight entertaining...but those are two you have mentioned that are. the trigg fight because it was a "clinic" as rogan said, and the second because georges gave fitch about as much as you can throw at someone and he kept coming back. amazing.
andrei should be fedor's toughest fight in some time. i thought tim sylvia would pose some problems for fedor if he could use his reach effectively, but that went out the window with the first couple of punches thrown by fedor! people question arlovski's chin, but he's only been knocked out by pedro rizzo and tko'd by tim sylvia and ricco rodriguez. sylvia is the only guy to knock him down in recent years that i can recall, and that was a partial throat shot that he walked into. sylvia, on the other hand was knocked down by the first, or one of the first, shots from arlovski twice, couture once, and fedor. yet, for some reason, people don't talk about his chin. i guess it's because he's never been truly knocked out completely.
anyway, i think andrei has a good chin. fedor does as well. both guys come from sambo and are extremely agile and quick HW's. it will be tough for fedor to get arlovski to the ground, as he has excellent takedown defense. he also has half decent trip takedowns he uses himself. if fedor can get him down, andrei is probably going to be on the bad end of some heavy ground and pound. i don't think fedor will submit him. andrei has great defensive skills in jiu-jitsu.
so i guess it will probably come down to the striking and fedor has those huge looping punches he throws like lightning, while andrei has very technical kickboxing, although he will have to clean up a few mistakes from his last couple of fights. he was leaving his hands low when bringing them back from his punches and that's not something he can do against fedor, so he'll have to make that adjustment. both guys have obviously demonstrated power. it should be a hell of a fight. i can't wait! sorry for the long winded reply, i just realized how much i wrote there. just my opinion, but i think andrei will win this one.0 -

I like Cote too but the Spider is on a fucking mission. The man is undefeated in the UFC and I really can't see anyone ending that steak anytime soon. I'm just thrilled as shit with all the top notch fights coming up in the next several months. I'm hoping that Elite XC can get a Carano/Santos fight in by early 2009 to add to all the good UFC bouts."When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads." - Ron Paul0 -

no need to wish anderson good luck at this stage, eh?it's true, he is so in focus right now, with accuracy and power combined like no other. his reading of opponents almost seems telepathic at times. it's like he takes a minute to get in their mind and fish out their weakness, then attacks it. at the very least this will be a great opportunity for patrick to gain some experience against the very top guy. he'll know what it's like to see that level and it should make him a better fighter. he's still a pretty young guy.
i'm with you in the thrilled department!some good stuff coming up to round out the year and then it looks like some good things for early 2009. the carano vs. santos match is rumoured for then, but we'll have to wait and see what happens. i think they were considering a possible ppv card for the spring. i'm hoping it's shown on cbs so as many people can get a chance to see it as possible. it should be outstanding!

GINA CARANO EXCITED FOR CYBORG AND TITLE
Thursday, October 16, 2008
by Damon Martin - MMAWeekly.com
Keeping her undefeated record intact with her last fight, Gina Carano is doing some promotion for her appearance in the new "Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3" game, but then her focus will shift to a proposed match-up against Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos early next year.
Carano is currently doing a media tour for the video game, but she spoke to MMAWeekly Radio on Wednesday about her next fight, which is likely to be against Cyborg, possibly in February.
"That's what I'm hearing too, and I'm real excited about it," Carano said about the match-up. "Maybe it will be for a title, maybe it will be a main event, I don't know. I'm just really excited about this fight because everybody else is excited about it and I just think it's an awesome match-up. I can't wait to train for it and I'd like to see where I'm at."
On the same night that Carano defeated Kelly Kobold, her next opponent, Cyborg, was also on the card. She was able to watch the fight and it actually made her feel more at home for the show.
"When I was back in the back I was watching her fight and you know it was just really nice to have another female fight on the card. I think that made me more comfortable," Carano commented. "I used to fight all the time with females on my cards and for a while I've just been the only one. So having another female fight on the card just made me feel more comfortable. I got to see her fight and I definitely think she's one of the top female fighters in the world. I'm going to try to put myself right in there with her."
As previously mentioned, the battle between Carano and Cyborg will most likely crown the first ever EliteXC women's champion, and multiple EliteXC officials have hinted at the same scenario when the two women finally meet.
Following a successful career in Muay Thai and now MMA, Carano is excited at the prospect of adding a women's title to her resume.
"That just makes me smile, I'm so excited about that," she stated about the title shot. "We've come so far and we've done so much in this sport. I've been through so much and just to kind of get there and to be fighting for the first belt and to have that be another first, I think that, there's not a feeling that compares to that."
The one thing that hasn't been decided is what weight class the fight between Carano and Cyborg will be at, considering Cyborg last fought at 148 pounds and Carano has seemingly struggled making the 140-pound weight limit.
But Carano has now come forward to say that the 140-pound weight class was a happy medium to find the best opponents, but she may have to move up a division to stay healthy before her fights.
"The reason why I started going down to 140 in the first place is because I thought that was a good weight people could come up from 135 or they could come down from 155/150," said Carano. "It's such a good weight class to have people all meet at, and that's where I saw all the competition too, so I've been doing this to get down to fight at a popular weight class.
"I'll see a couple months out when they offer me the fight for Cyborg and I'll see where I'm at and I'll see what weight I really want to go down to, 145 or 140, I'm not sure. Because she fought at 148 in this last fight, so we'll see."
Carano keeps a good perspective though, understanding that she needs to make weight and if that can't be at 140 pounds, then she will move on to a different weight.
"If I don't belong down at 140, I don't want to keep fighting there, but I do want to see my natural walking around weight as healthy, working out with a nutritionist," stated Carano. "I want to see where I'm comfortable at and by the time they offer me the fight two months out, then I'll be able to be like, if I'm at 155 I'll be like yeah I'll go down to 140."
For the time being, Carano will enjoy some time off promoting her new video game and working on other projects before preparing for the showdown with Cyborg in 2009.

ufc 89 is all set to go in england. everybody made weight. looks like brandon vera may have had an easier time with this being his second cut to 205, coming in at 203. carwin came in just under the HW limit at 264...the guy is huge!
chris leben also sporting a new "corn rows" do, a tribute to evan tanner's "war rows" perhaps?looks like both leben and bisping are in fantastic shape. i'm more excited for that one now than when it was originally announced. taylor vs. lytle is the one i'm still most anxious to see, though.
should be a gooder!

I heard about the PPV idea for Carano/Santos and I think that would be a bad idea. You would get your diehard MMA fans to watch it but that's it. By airing it on CBS you would gain so much more exposure and after the Kimbo fiasco EliteXC needs this fight to bring in more fans and ratings."When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads." - Ron Paul0 -

ya i agree... i'm also looking forward to the Kelly/Davis and Etim/Stout fights, both should be pretty good standup wars.
I just checked the HD listing and it has UFC 89 listed for 3pm. I hope it's right"I'll ride the wave where it takes me"

bad ass, leafs! i saw that the ads were on last night for the show and they mentioned in HD at the bottom so i was thinking it was all good. then today, the sportsnet site has the countdown show and the live event listed for all sportsnet channels! very nice.
it's crazy that they're the only station in north america carrying it live! good for us canooks, eh?0 -
it was good to see joe rogan still sporting his evan tanner tribute beard yesterday.
i thought they may ask him to shave it off for the event.
this post is just an excuse to say...j bully get you picks in!!!0 -
