  • UFC All Access with Anderson Silva is on Sportsnet Ontario right now for anyone who has it.

he admits a secret that he sneaks out in the middle of the night, about 48 hours before the fight to eat two big mac's because he used to work at mac donald's and he loves big mac's! :D

yeah, that match would make complete sense for dublin. it would be a fine addition to the card.

congrats once again on this championship, leafs! tough card! i threw it on purpose, of course, hoping that j bully would put in her picks and maybe she'd get a belt this time around...then no picks! haha ;):D i shall be hanging out in the basement for this week. :)

Apologies my friends! :( I am an idiot!!!! I knew UFC 89 and 90 were only a week apart, but for some reason thought it was Oct 25 and Nov 1 dates. I didn't realize I had the dates wrong until it was too late to get my picks in. I appreciate Mookie trying to "throw" the event for me, but 133 points ain't such a rotten showing mooks.

But I am researching my picks for UFC 90 right now and will definitely get them in this time. I am super pumped for Gray's fight! And now that my computer is fixed (1 $80 power cord later) I should be able to post more often. :D

ps Mooks, if you want to throw the UFC 90 event I could use all the help I can get. There are some VERY tough picks that I'm waffling on right now.

releash! :) i tried to send you a shout here to get your picks in, but alas, i was too late. i guess i didn't throw it...that's just still my excuse when i do poorly. haha :D we had a good average again this time.

good luck on the picks for 90. the bully is an obvious one, eh? ;) i took him by decision because rich is very tough to finish and because i think gray may need to put a round or so in to get in the flow since he has been out with the injury. he could come out guns blazing, though. either way, at least we get to see it on the ppv now! i can't wait for the weekend.

...and 80$ for a power cord! sheeet!

Obviously I picked Gray over Clementi, but it will be a tough fight. I personally think Gray will come out very strong since his last 2 fights ended in decision and I know he hates that. I'm thinking round 2. I will do my best to keep the league average up.

yeah the power cord cost kinda sucked. My cat decided to gnaw on it enough that it wouldn't charge the laptop anymore.

Looking forward to tomorrow night! :)

i hope you are right...even though i picked decision...;) gray opened a lot of people's eyes with the win over edger and a strong performance here could put him right into the top four or five in the division. i'm so excited it's on the ppv...you must be giddy! :D now, if only franca vs. aurelio will make it....hmmm....

hope all is well in nashville, depsite cord gnawing felines! :)

UFC 90: MAYNARD LOOKS TO KEEP UP MOMENTUM
    Friday, October 24, 2008
    by Mitch Gobetz - MMAWeekly.com

Nicknamed “The Bully”, Gray Maynard looks to live up to his moniker when he faces Rich Clementi at UFC 90 this weekend in Chicago, Ill. Maynard has gone 3-0 in the Octagon with only one no contest. The Las Vegas resident was a product of the Ultimate Fighter season five and made it to the semi-finals before losing to Nate Diaz by a guillotine choke.

Immediately after that fight, he fought Rob Emerson at the Ultimate Fighter finale and had one of the strangest outcomes in MMA history. Maynard picked up Emerson and slammed him to the canvas, knocking himself out when his head hit the canvas; simultaneously, Rob Emerson tapped out due to a rib injury. Although Maynard claimed he was fine, the fight was ruled a no contest.

Maynard quickly erased the memory of that fight in his subsequent outing when he knocked out Joe Veres in just nine seconds. He built upon that win with a unanimous decision over Dennis Siver and was offered a fight with undefeated Frankie Edgar three months later. Many thought that Edgar would be too tough for Maynard, but he proved the doubters wrong by pressuring Edgar and taking him down at will to earn the decision victory.

Now Maynard looks to continue his unbeaten streak against Rich “No Love” Clementi. “I want to keep the momentum going until I'm done. He's a tough kid and he's been doing good,” Maynard said in reference to Edgar. “I know he had a good fight in July. I just got to keep back in the gym, of course, and keep going. There is a lot that you have to get in there and learn. This is a sport where it's changing all the time. You got to keep on top of it.”

It has been six months since Maynard's last fight, but his inactivity isn’t without reason. “I broke my hand, so I had to,” he explained. “I was pretty much back in the gym after three weeks. It's alright.”

Fighting out of one of the best camps around in Xtreme Couture gives Maynard an advantage that not many other fighters have because of the talent athletes that trains there. Maynard believes that having the multitude of training partners is invaluable.

“We train and stuff two times a day. We had in [Sam] Stout. He came in and trained. There were a bunch of guys obviously. Jay Hieron, we had [Mike] Pyle. We were all peaking around the same time. I know Jay and Pyle had a fight two weeks ago, so it was pretty good.”

Sam Stout previously fought Clementi back in April where he lost a split decision. Having a training partner with experience against a common opponent could be seen as an advantage, but that may not be the case with this upcoming match as Stout and Maynard have vastly different fighting styles. For that reason, Maynard doesn't really feel that it will be much of an advantage. “It helps, but you kind of have to keep a game plan that would work for you. It helps a little bit.”

Maynard is highly regarded as a tough wrestler who relies mostly on his take downs. For this fight “The Bully” may be obliged to change things up a bit, especially for an opponent that is very versatile and can fight anywhere.

“I like to change it up,” Maynard stated. “He's been around for a long time. He's just a good guy. It's going to be one where I'm going to have to be careful. He's a tough guy. I got to be careful.”

  • weigh-ins in one hour. :)
  • weigh-ins are complete, with josh burkman being the only fighter not to make weight. he has one hour to lose the two pounds, after weighing in initially at 173.

côté and silva had a great face to face staredown and a bow and handshake afterward. very cool. should be a good fight. :) patrick is in the best shape i have ever seen him, and anderson was having a blast.

pete sell is absolutely ripped to shreds at 170! werdum looked like he may be eating a bit much, coming in a little softer than usual. alves looked like he made weight easily this time, but had a weird staredown with koscheck. they shook hands and bowed and thiago stayed where he was standing. josh looked a little confused and stepped forward and back, kind of shaking his hands. (a prelude to the fight maybe, with alves keeping the distance and koscheck trying to move in and shoot...maybe?!? :D)

gray and rich looked ready to start the show and that should be a good one! franca and aurelio probably had the coldest staredown of the weigh-ins. no handshake on that one. ;)

What underground fighting mayhem are you talking about? The UFC and other MMA associations have rules... and I'm pretty sure hundreds of people aren't dying every year. Maybe you know of some human cockfighting tournament that I'm unaware of.
Whoa, chill bro... you know you can't raise your voice like that when the lion's here.

    :D

is this john mccain come to the future from the past...?!?:D

actually, lawn bowling consistently tops the list of the most dangerous sports. fishing and cheerleading are also in the top ten.

i've always enjoyed this quote from "The Onion":

"Although detractors decry it as a brutal, bloody form of human cockfighting, aficionados know it is a brutal, bloody, totally fucking awesome form of human cockfighting."

thanks for changing the pace with the posts, mr. mccain, and for taking the time out of your busy schedule to drop by and pay us a visit. :D

good picks mookie... i think you're going to be right with the split decision in the sherk - griffen match, i should have changed to that. I still think the decision will go to sherk though.

  • yeah, that one was a coin flip for me, that's why i went with the split. should be some good scrambles and both guys have good stand up for guys with a wrestling base. griffin has improved a lot on his kickboxing and sherk's hands are tight and technical. it'll be interesting to see who gets the advantage, and where, in this one.
  • ya i agree with you there. I think sherk is going to get the better of the stand-up and that's why i went with him. I'm kind of worried about griffen getting the takedown and scoring some good points from there. Should be a good fight though.

not sure if you're following the play by play, leafs, but i couldn't resist as usual. no spoilers, but apparently hermes franca just shoved marcus aurelio prior to the introductions! i knew there were some ill feelings, but i didn't think hermes would do that. i'll have to wait to see it, but it doesn't sound like the crowd appreciated it too much. (...edit: or maybe it was the action. funny how some PBP's tell the story one way and others have it differently....)
