i'm hoping we get to see a couple of them!

sorry you are at work, leafs. :(

schafer just finished houston after a very exciting round. houston hurt him early with what appeared to me to be a couple of knees to a grounded opponent while schafer was shooting. schafer eventually got the fight to the ground but had houston in his guard after losing a heel hook. he took some of houston's punches there but houston stood back up. schafer went for takedown after takedown, finally landing one mid-round and it was all downhill for houston from there. schafer landed some big punches and elbows from full mount and eventually secured a beautiful arm triangle. only 10 seconds left in the round!

...was just watching the replay and i didn't hear eric schafer say into the camera's microphone after his win..."that was for evan tanner, my hero. believe!" pretty cool of him. :)
  • i'm surprised ed is keeping this standing for the most part. he's holding his own on the feet, though. round one to ed, probably round two to belcher.
  • tough last round to score. belcher kind of landed a spinning back forearm and landed a big head kick. he got the better strikes in, but ed got two takedowns and full mount at the end with some big ground and pound. might have to give it to herman.
  • wow, belcher gets the split. the crowd boos.
  • good fight. :) mac looking technically sound at the beginning of both rounds, but clay finishing both rounds strong with takedowns. big suplex and rnc attempt to finish the second. both rounds to clay, i think.
  • clay wore him down in the third and completely controlled mac. should be a decision for him, probably all three rounds. pretty good fight. the pace slowed a bit in the third, but overall a good one. clay's takedowns and control were just too strong for mac as this one went on.
  • big win for clay! frustrating loss for mac. two judges gave him the first...which is where he had the best chances to try to finish the fight.
  • great first round! excellent grappling. neer controlled the first half of the round. nate mostly controlled the second half. tough one to call.
  • great fight! superb grappling so far. round two was the opposite of the first. this one probably goes to neer.
  • definitely nate's third round. depends on how they scored the first...nate pulled out the win at the end, in my opinion.
  • nate gets a split decision. mookie squeaks out the win...whew! :D

  • morning guys!! :D

sorry i wasn't around last night. I ended up staying at work, tending bar for the poker tournament. sadly, our satelite TV was on the fritz, so we weren't able to watch fights during poker, and i wasn't able to set up picks with the boys. However, it was a fundraising tournament, and we raised $700 for Canadian Cancer Socitey! :D

we did make it out to the bar afterwards in time to catch Mac's and Nate's fights. they were both so close!!! I'm sure Mac was disappointed in his loss. Clay just had that much more energy last night. I'm happy about Nate's win, but from watching it (on mute), i actually would have given it to Neer.

So, I didn't win any $$ last night, but my friend Brian and I did place a wager on the last fight at the bar. We both wanted Nate to win, so he picked Nate By Strikes and I picked Nate by Submission. Loser payed the bill. Neither of us won, but Brian payed anyways. ;)
~~*~~ ...i surfaced and all of my being was enlightend... ~~*~~

i call for a recount! damn scoring errors! (unless of course they are in my favour ;):D)

nice work leafs! :) both "brackets" had a three point differential...strange...it seems j bully and all manador are almost always separated by less than a few. we've got a rivalry on our hands! haha

boo ya for charity! :) nice work, ceg.

yeah, all three of the last bouts could have really gone either way...expcept maybe clay and mac. i think clay didn't have it by much, but it would be hard to argue for a decision in mac's favour. the way the night started out, it looked like we were going to get to see all the fights! no decisions up until the belcher vs. herman fight, and all finished within the first round, except the two finished in the second.

also, very smooth on your part...getting a tie on the bet, and still getting the win! nice! haha ;)
  • oh yeah, joe lauzon vs. kyle bradley is being streamed for free at ufc.com in case anyone would like to check it out.
  • just got a nice little treat in a replay of the xmma event from montreal on the fight network. :) david loiseau vs. solomon hutcherson for their mw title. loiseau with a nice tko finish, knees and punches in the fifth. hutcherson landed a lot of knees in the clinch to david's body, but david had explosive outbursts in each round, lots of kicks, spinning kicks, flying knees, jabs, and his strong elbows. i'd expect an invite back to the ufc soon for the crow. :) he also gave a heartfelt dedication of the fight and win to evan tanner as one of his heroes during the post fight interview.

anyway, if anyone is bored tonight...strikeforce from the playboy mansion II is streaming live at sherdog.com and is being broadcast on the score in canada at 10:30 eastern time. the first show they did there was absolutely terrible, so i have low expectations for this one. no one pays attention to the fights and the camera work and commentary were almost as involved. :D

anyway, a couple of fantastic mixed martial artists on the card, but not much in the way of matches, with the possible exception of riggs vs. misaki. could be a huge win for riggs. i hope he pulls it off.

We do seem to be fairly close in the points. But I give the upper hand to all manador as she has a couple of event wins whereas I have a big goose-egg in the win column. A couple of second place finishes ... always a bridesmaid. ;)

On another note ...... DAMN COMCAST!!!!!!!
I had forgotten to set my DVR on wednesday to record the fights but the event was reshown a couple times on Friday and Saturday. Well, my cable has gone on the fritz again and I get most channels EXCEPT spike and espn! Grrr! So I still haven't been able to see the event or the first episode of TUF.

i thought you had a couple of titles, releash?! maybe i was just thinking that due to your consistent performances. ;):)

also...:D...i saw a thread on an mma forum a couple of weeks ago entitled "damn comcast" i laughed my ass off! apparently this person had been expecting to see the last ppv and it didn't come through for some reason. said it wasn' t the first time.

so i guess you have company in the troubles with comcast. i hope you got to see the show by now and that you get to catch the tuf episode! :)
  • the final round of DREAM's MW tournament tonight! well, tomorrow...i mean early in the morning...i mean....it's live from japan, so it's on at an unusual time! :D

going to try to stay awake for the football game and then try to stay up for this. it could be a long show, though, so if i can stay away from the results, i might just wait until tomorrow.

anyway, here is the card. cro cop had a funny on the weekend, saying that since kharitonov's opponent had pulled out, that he would galdly step in as a replacement and fight him...after he beats alistair overeem first. :D

Fight of the Year in 2008? Readers say UFC 87's St. Pierre vs. Fitch
    by MMAjunkie.com Staff
    Sep 22, 2008

Georges St. Pierre's five-round unanimous-decision victory over Jon Fitch that took place at an August UFC 87 event ranks as the front-runner for the 2008 Fight of the Year.

That's according to MMAjunkie.com readers who voted in last week's "Inside MMA" poll.

Readers could choose from six different fights in four different organizations, and the results were revealed during this past Friday's episode of "Inside MMA."

The St. Pierre vs. Fitch fight, though, was the clear favorite when fans to vote for the best fight so far in 2008.

St. Pierre's title fight with the No. 1 contender garnered 29 percent of the vote.

"That's a great honor," said St. Pierre, who was an "Inside MMA" panelist on the episode. "Thank you everybody.

"With Fitch, I truly felt like I was fighting the Terminator because he always came back. It was unbelievable."

Another UFC title fight -- one at UFC 86 in which Forrest Griffin upset then-champ Quinton "Rampage" Jackson for the UFC light heavyweight title -- scored a second-place finish with 19 percent of the vote.

Other bouts scoring votes included WEC bantamweight champ Miguel Torres' successful title defense over Yoshiro Maeda at WEC 34 (16 percent), Eddie Alvarez's grueling decision victory over Joachim Hansen at DREAM.3 (13 percent), Urijah Faber's dominant decision victory over Jens Pulver at WEC 34 (13 percent), and Cung Le's stunning TKO upset of Frank Shamrock for the Strikeforce world middleweight title in March (10 percent).

  • i did indeed flake out, leafs. :D saw the first half of the football game, woke up to see the end of it, then went back to sleep and woke up in time to catch sergei's start / finish of his fight. i was hoping to avoid missing the first two MW matches for the tourney final, but it's hard to do when you come into the show halfway through! haha

...and leading up to funaki vs. minowa, they are playing neil young in saitama super arena!...for some reason...:D
