Fitch gave us a scare there at the end with almost getting choked out by the triangle. But he got the unanimous decision ... well deserved. He better get a title shot now!!

am I alone here tonight? <crickets>
  • first round to wilson by a hair, i thought. definitely a decision win for fitch, though. i had fitch by decision and changed it when i did my revisions!

fitch for the title shot next time...:)

...and it's always nice to hear him come out to some johnny cash.

i could see some light under his armpit. ;) fitch has to be impossible to choke out! :D

    sorry...just into the show...:)

no worries. I'm into it too ... just have the benefit of a laptop and wireless internet. Smithers needs to get you a wireless connection! ;)

Evan looks great btw! Did you shave your beard too?
  • no i kept it, so maybe that was the undoing. the first round was pretty much what i expected. i was surprised okami put evan down with a punch, but evan recovered immediately.

it really looked like evan was frustrated that either his gameplan wasn't working or he wasn't implementing it. i was expecting a few slick takedown attempts in the second. tough ko loss for him, but i hope he continues to train hard and comes back to get a few wins. he just didn't look into it in the second, staying in okami's range, and then got caught with a nice knee. okami is tough and should get his MW title fight now.

    i'm sad. :(

    still...good fights to come!

I don't think your beard was the problem :(

+1 to your thoughts on the fights.

I'm sad for you and Evan!

Good fight for Leben. Really pressing the action and going after Sakara. I think Herb Dean had it right to stop the fight, Leben landed at least three shots without any defense from Sakara.

Side note: I think Leben has a couple of screws loose. I definitely wouldn't want to meet him in dark alley.
  • he'll be back! :)

great fight between sakara and leben! i kept yelling out...whoa! that was a ko punch! they kept throwing, though. not hard to see that was a good stoppage. sakara was out of it.

i think i'm taking a beating on the picks tonight. hope my luck turns around with kongo!

Great fight ... not at all what I expected. :):D
  • i haven't checked, in case we get a pre-lim or two...i'll go check now...:(

i would have said kongo won the first two rounds and herring won the third for sure, but it could be said it went the other way in round two, i guess. i'm really impressed with kongo's takedowns and ability to scramble out. i didn't expect him to be winning the fight on the ground during parts of round one and two...most of round one and two, i thought.

me neither! i didn't think i'd be seeing kongo take mount once, let alone a couple of times! definitely was expecting more striking from kongo.
  • congrats, leafs4ever. thanks for keeping the average up. i'm tanking this one! :D

Pretty good title fight. Too bad Dan couldn't make it to the end of the round and regroup. Once he took a few shots in the second, it seemed like he couldn't get back to his gameplan or defense.

Rich Franklin's shirt: No, I'm not Jon Fitch ... Stop asking! :):D Ceg isn't here to appreciate this ... but I'd take either one of them! ;)
  • haha! :D nice t-shirt, indeed!

exciting title fight. i really didn't think anderson was going to be able to get a choke on dan at the end. i thought it was going to the third. would have been one round each...but silva is at the top of his game. very impressive!

that was a great fight between koscheck and hazellett! not what i expected at all! i was impressed with dustin's stand up and i thought i might have bonus points with the triangle choke in the last minute of the first round! no dice...unfortunately koschek wins, but he did seem much more mature in his post fight interview. perhaps georges has taught him some humility. ;)

overall, pretty good show. i'm just a little bummed about evan losing by ko, and then i just saw that luke lost by decision. :( also, i brought the team average down with a poor performance. i will train much harder for montreal! :) oh, and no arlovski fight, either...oh, and i disagree with the kongo / herring decision...:D i was definitely surprised with the way a lot of the fights went tonight.

...and where is ceg? i thought she had the party the other night instead?

I definitely brought down the average as well. I got most of the undercard matches right, but the main card killed me. Lots of surprises tonight!

I was wondering the same thing about Ceg ... she had said she would be around tonight. :( She missed Roger Huerta on the broadcast.

Good night, Mookie. As always, it was a pleasure. At least in Montreal you won't have to be running back and forth from the computer to the tv. I still can't believe we are going! :) I am so excited.

once i get over being stunned from tonight, i'll be psyched for montreal...ok, i'm psyched for montreal! :) can't wait!

you're right about the surprises tonight. insane!

have a good one, releash. sorry i wasn't mobile with the computer, but next time we won't have to worry about it...insane! :D
  • league results for UFC 82...we have a new champion! leafs4ever strips ceg of the title! if only i'd left gurgel and fitch as decision winners, i'd have at least looked respectable! :D

Thanks guys! I was actually pretty confident about this card, there were 2 that i was unsure about and i landed up getting both wrong (title fight, and cummo/Fioravanti) and was really surprised by Heath taking Kongo (even though i gave the win to Kongo it was really close and i won't argue with the call) in a really impressive fight for both.
Overall i'd say great card, i'm actually rewatching it right now. I just wish we would have seen the arlovski fight.

good morning guys!! sorry i wasn't online last night... i talked my sister into watching the event with me. Since my computer is in the basement, i didn't feel i should be running up and down to chat with you guys and leave her to watch alone... she wasn't all that enthusiastic about it in the first place.... hahaha... :)

i left mookie a message on his answering machine... i was hoping he might have heard it and passed on the message... :p

sorry about the Tanner fight, mook! :( wow! evan looked in great shape! but okami was huge! i had no idea he was that big a guy... i like the Team Tanner shirt though! can't wait to see it in person! :D

ReleasH, you must be happy about the Fitch win! Wilson gave him a run for his money! oh, and i did see Roger in the crowd.... he's so pretty. oh! and i love that pink The Bully shirt.... it's awesome... you've gotta get it!

and yes, congrats to leafs4ever on the fantasy win! i'll get my title back on the next one! :p

after watching it the second time, i was more sure that kongo won the fight. the first time seemed closer, but it was kongo's round 1, i'd give him the second slightly, then herring for sure in the third.

in any case, nice work! :) we're picking all canucks for 83, right? :D
