back to columbus, ohio in march for a whopper of a card!
dan henderson will compete in his second title unification match, this time against anderson silva for the MW championship...an incredible main event!
if gono and carneiro were still competing, this would be the best card of the year. still, it possibly could be, as there is a ton of "star power" on both the main card and undercard. ( * a bit of a controversial decision to put andrei arlovski on the undercard, but i'm hoping he makes short work of jake o'brien and his fight is aired.)
i'm really looking forward to this one, especially the return of evan tanner. wish i could be there! team tanner!

Here is another wacky thought I had. What do you think is gonna happen if Henderson loses again?? People are gonna think he is a sub par fighter, not realizing his 2 losses will be to Rampage(lhw Champ) and Silva(Middleweight Champ).
oui, oui! me and ceg and releash, and i think a few others who appear in the thread from time to time as well.
yourself? i know you'd be there if it were tito vs. lyoto!
oh, and the rumour is that andrei may not be re-signed so that is why they held out on giving him another fight and then putting him on the pre-lims. they kind of screwed him over, i would say. if he can overwhelm o'brien (which to me is a softball for him) then either the ufc has to scramble to get him re-signed, or the offers go up from elitexc and hdnet fights, etc. i don't know what the hell they're thinking, andrei has always been a huge star for them and i think it would be a huge mistake to let him go. just my opinion...;)
i was thinking the same thing about dan henderson. he had a battle with quinton and lost. now, you're right...if he loses again and people have only seen these two fights...what do they think of dan henderson, eh? i wonder if he will choose to stay at MW or move back to LHW? i know he hates cutting the weight for MW, but it's a better division for him right now, i'd say.
that's a tough fight to call...dan could probabaly beat most of the MW's in the division, but anderson is in the zone right now. heck, he could probabaly beat most of the LHW's as well, but again he caught rampage at the top of his game.
it'll be too bad if he loses and people think less of him. he really is one tough fighter.
p.s. i love matt serra!
also, p.s. GSP!

+1!
seriously.... andrei as a pre-lim? what is this world coming to?
lol... go drink some red wine, frenchie! i'm suprised he didn't ask him to say "chowder"...
awesome... it's like the UFC version of James Lipton's Questionnaire.... he should have snuck in "what sound or noise do you love?"
the sound of "hamma fists and elbows!" i thought matt was pretty funny throughout the show, and he had some good lines during the press conference as well. georges is looking SERIOUS. i've never seen him look like that this far out from a fight. i get the feeling there's some tension there that wasn't there for the first fight.
...now that i'm thinking about it...james lipton interviewing matt serra...that's good for a laugh, just to picture it!
where is the fangs with a tear emoticon when you need it?!?!
this will be my first time at the bell centre as well, leafs4ever. as long as you're in the house, i would say it's a good seat!
+1 on getting to see some pre-lims from the 82 show!
can we get a middleweight match on this card!?!?! please!
Alan Belcher Confirms UFC 83 Fight with Patrick Cote
MMA Junkie.com
February 7, 2008
Alan Belcher (11-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC), who had to pull out of this past weekend’s UFC 81 event with bronchitis, will take on Patrick Cote (12-4 MMA, 3-4 UFC) at an April 19 UFC 83 event at Montreal’s Bell Centre.
Belcher today told MMAjunkie.com that he’s accepted the bout.
UFC President White confirmed that Cote will be part of the fight card during Monday’s UFC 83 press conference, which was attended by UFC welterweight champion Matt Serra and interim champ (and French-Canadian) Georges St. Pierre, who meet in the night’s main event.
Belcher was supposed to fight Ricardo Almeida at this past weekend's UFC 81 event, but he had to pull out of the televised fight on just three days’ notice. As MMAjunkie.com reported earlier this week, the fight with Cote was expected to go to Belcher or UFC newcomer Johnny Rees.
“I am still under the weather a bit, and I’m going back to the doctor (today),” Belcher told us. “I still have some deep coughing that you can hear real bad in my chest.“
However, he plans for a full recover in time for UFC 83, which will be the first-ever UFC event in Canada.
His opponent, Cote, has drastically improved his stock in the UFC’s middleweight division with recent victories over “The Ultimate Fighter 3” winner Kendall Grove (UFC 74) and hard-hitting Miletich fighter Drew McFedries (UFC Fight Night 12). Cote has now won his past four fights (three were in the UFC), and six of his past seven. Cote began his UFC career with four straight losses and has since posted three consecutive wins.
Belcher, a former light heavyweight, began his UFC career with a 1-2 record. However, he’s since posted back-to-back victories over Sean Salmon and Kalib Starnes. His UFC 77 fight with Starnes appeared to be “Fight of the Night” material, but the bout was stopped a couple minutes into the second round because of a deep gash on Starnes’ forehead. Belcher was credited with the TKO victory.

there's a bid on a pair of tickets in our section 119, row c going for close to 1,200$ for a pair, and another for 1,500$. craziness! those seats aren't even as good as ours!
UFC 83 Creates Record Sellout
MMA Junkie.com
February 8, 2008
With Montreal’s UFC 83 event producing the fastest sellout in the organizations’ UFC history, UFC President Dana White has made a promise that the UFC will “definitely” return to Canada for a second event.
The UFC made the announcement of the sellout late Thursday night.
UFC 83 takes place April 19 at Montreal’s Bell Centre. It’ll be the first-ever event in Canada and features a headline bout between UFC welterweight champion Matt Serra and interim champ Georges St. Pierre.
“Most of the tickets for UFC 83 were sold in the first 24 hours of our UFC Fight Club pre-sale, and the rest were gone within one minute of the public on-sale (date) today,” White stated in a press release. “I’m excited to say that this event is a sellout, and the fastest one in UFC history, so it's safe to say we definitely will be back in Canada after this inaugural event.“
So many tickets were sold during Sunday’s pre-sale for fan-club members that UFC executives opted to halt a pre-sale for newsletter subscribers that was set to take place on Tuesday. Instead, the remaining tickets were put on hold for today’s on-sale date for the general public.
More than 21,000 tickets were sold in total, which will set a UFC record attendance. UFC 68, which took place in Columbus, Ohio, back in March 2007, holds the current record with 19,049 spectators.
UFC officials says they’re researching alternative viewing options for fans who could not obtain a ticket to UFC 83.

That's also really good news that dana has already promised another show in canada, hopefully we can get our act together here in ontario and get these stupid laws outta the way. UFC at the sky dome wold be crazy.

Sounds like good times!! PJ at Bonarroo would be fun! I happen to know a certain someone who live in Nashville by the name of ReleasH who i'm sure is happy about the announcement! Maybe we'll have to butter her up in Montreal to see if she'll let us all sleep on her couch!
UFC at the Skydome would be awesome... on a summer night with the roof open.... sweet!
c'mon April!!
When I found out about PJ at Bonnaroo, I literally did a little dance in the Emergency Room at 2 am. The Bonnaroo lineup looks insanely great!!! I am so excited . . . I don't care what I have to do to get that weekend off, I am there.
Of course you are all welcome to come sleep on my couch! Only a small amount of buttering up (or red wine) in Montreal will be necessary. just kidding . . . it would be great to have other PJ fans to go with! Manchester is about 45 minutes away from Nashville so it would be possible to drive back and forth each day or you can camp at the site. Depends on how much you like to shower.
April seems so far away! do we know what time the weigh ins will be? I've been looking at flights and the earliest I think I'll be able to get into Montreal is 3 or 4 pm on Friday. If I can't get there before weigh ins then Ceg and Mookie can go through the fight club.
that's a good question about weight-ins... do we have to buy an extra ticket to see that or can we even get in to see it?
09/19/05, 05/09/06, 05/10/06
it sounds like the summer is starting off well for those of us who are PJ and UFC fans! we'll have to discuss this in montreal over some red wine as releash suggested. think we'll have any problem finding good red wine in montreal?
lbc, if we'd all known beforehand we could have made a fortune on extra tickets and we'd all be able to attend a few choice events funded by selling UFC 83 tickets! i was thinking when the original rumours included the ortiz / machida match that you'd be coming up to this one...of course they moved it to may. :( i'm still working on my lotto win to get tickets for everyone, but that appears to be proving less successful than i originally anticipated.
as far as the weigh-ins go, they are free to the public, and fight club members get early entrance to get the best seats. when the doors open for the public, i think it's just general seating. it should be at the bell centre, so this could be a huge event in and of itself! not so sure about the weigh-in times. at first i was thinking early evening, but i think that's because i'm used to watching the weigh-ins from vegas live. those usually come on between 6 and 8 here...so i'm guessing mid to late afternoon for the weigh-ins in montreal? if they're held any later, i suppose that doesn't give the fighters a whole lot of time to recover for saturday night.
maybe if blind3 stops by the thread sometime he could let us know. he has lots of experience attending live events.
Yeah not much sleep will be happening at the campground, leafs4ever. From the looks of the PJ Bonnaroo meet-up thread, there are going to be a ton of forum people there and ready to party. Depending on which of my friends go(and hopefully Ceg and Mookie ) I may camp Saturday night.
I'm guessing that the weigh ins will be pretty crowded ... I'm sure lots of people who didn't get tickets will come out to see the fighters and do the meet and greet stuff.
Hey mooks, do they announce who will be in Montreal for meet and greets? Matt Hughes would probably get killed!
DAY REPLACES COTE AT UFC 83
Canadian Middleweight Will Meet Belcher in Promotional Debut
By Mike Russell
thefightnetwork.com
Jason “Dooms” Day’s split decision victory over one-time UFC middleweight title contender David Loiseau on Feb. 1 appears to have paid major dividends for the Lethbridge, Alberta native.
The Fight Network learned late Sunday that Day has agreed to a multi-fight deal with the UFC. He will make his promotional debut against Alan Belcher at UFC 83 “Serra vs. St. Pierre 2” on Saturday, April 19 at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
Day (15-5) can thank Patrick Cote, the last man to defeat him, for his late invite to the UFC’s debut show in Canada. Cote was forced to withdraw from the UFC 83 card with a knee injury, a move that opened a spot for Day.
On a four-fight winning streak, Day has won 14 of his past 16 bouts – a streak of sustained success that includes a submission victory over Jonathan Goulet and a technical knockout win over UFC veteran Ron Faircloth.
Belcher (12-4, 3-2 UFC), meanwhile, bounced back from his submission loss to Kendall Grove at UFC 69 and posted consecutive victories over Kalib Starnes and Sean Salmon. The Biloxi, Miss., native last competed in October, when he stopped Starnes on a second-round cut at UFC 77. Eleven of his 12 career wins have come by KO, TKO or submission.

bonnaroo would be awesome! one event at a time for me though!
not sure about who they are bringing along or when they announce it. i'm sure there will be word leading up to the show. it's safe to say there'll be a few stars there, though, depending on their personal schedules and what not. i'm hoping hughes isn't one of them...for his own personal safety! we don't need another riot in montreal!
i could see roger huerta being there (just to get our hopes up ), given his long layoff, and rampage and forrest are almost certain to be there given the start of the new season of the ultimate fighter.
uh-oh! you know mookie's concocting some sort of scheme when he starts talking in "eh?"-s
ok. maybe i'm the one coming up with plans.... i think mookie should fly to toronto, then we pack the camping gear in my truck, and hit the open road to Music City! hehehe....
disappointing, yes... but it's great that Dana's replaced him with yet another Canadian fighter.... i think they should just cancel July 1st, and celebrate Canada Day on April 19th!!
you're such a tease....
A scheming mookie, eh? that could get interesting!
I like your plan Ceg! It's a 12 drive from Toronto to Nashville. I've made the drive from Rochester, New York and it's not too bad.
however, i will say...only a twelve hour drive from toronto!?! that's not bad...hmmm....oh!...eh?
we'll invite roger out for wine in montreal and see if he'd like to go too. maybe he is a PJ fan. yes, i did just throw his name out to tease, but you never know who's going to show up! i'm hoping evan tanner gets the call to do some appearance work in montreal.
Hottest Female Athletes - No. 4 Carano
Friday, February 1, 2008
4. Gina Carano
VOTING POINTS
95,392
Age: 24
Birthplace: Dallas, Texas
Sport: MMA
Three female athletes received more votes than Gina Carano, but judging by the feedback we received here at Sportsnet.ca, no one has a more loyal following than the MMA fighter and current star of American Gladiators. After racking up a Muay Thai record of 12-1-1, Gina received an offer to participate in the first ever female sanctioned MMA bout in Nevada. She recently fought on the September 15, 2007, Showtime EliteXC card, defeating Tonya Evinger via rear naked choke for her first career win by submission. Gina starred in "Ring Girls," a film featuring five girls who were trained by her trainer, Master Toddy. and the reality show, "Fight Girls," on the Oxygen Channel. In Gina, it appears female MMA fighters have found the perfect poster girl.

I stepped up into the Octagon, under the lights, the canvas cool against the soles of my feet, the quiet of the arena echoing off row after row of empty seats. I stood there in silence, honoring all of the warriors who have stood that ground, and offering a silent prayer for those who will stand there in the future. I paid my respects to whatever gods of war may be, knowing that I would soon be standing this field again, heart pumping, blood cursing, lungs burning,......battle raging.
I went to the Mandalay Bay early Friday afternoon for a photo shoot and decided to stay for the weigh-ins. I went behind the scenes into the arena, where they were setting up the lights for the show. The Octagon sat there empty. I wanted to step in, wondering if it might feel strange after so long away. The moment I stepped past the gate and my feet touched the canvas, I knew I was home.
I'll be catching a flight up to Salt Lake City in a few hours. I'll be spending this week training with Josh Burkman, and all the guys at Absolute Gym. I'm in fight shape now, and I'm getting very anxious for March 1st.

how can a piece of writing describing a "raging battle" be so soothing at the same time?
reminds me of the scene in Immagine In Cornice, where Eddie is playing Immortality to the empty amphetheatre......
ahhhh.... heaven....
