okay so some of you know I own business. Well its seasonal from April through October. The rest of the year i take care of my daughter b/c my wife works full time. Its hard being Mr. mom everyday as the man of the house. It can be hard accepting that roll but its for my daughter so its gotta be done.
So I have been looking for a full time job year around also. Now I have a chance to take pretty good job but I don't have anybody to watch my daughter. she is almost 2 and I am worried about taking her to daycare. I'm worried she will freak out when I leave her all alone. I can't imigine her being a alone and crying.
What to do??????
I couldn't read the whole thread - it seemed to be going a bit far off topic. But I wanted you to know that there are more 'untraditional' families like your own. My husband has been a stay-at-home dad for 7 years now. There are occasions when he wishes he was able to work and 'provide' for the family - but when we really sit down and talk about it, we both realize that this is what is best for OUR family - and that he is providing so much more staying home.
Having made the decision for one of us to stay home, when our first was about 3 years, we realized that she really needed more time with other children, so she entered a preschool for a couple hours a day. My husband was able to get some 'adult' time and she was able to get some play time. She cried the first few times, but not for long. One great thing about the preschool that both of our kids went to was that they had a two-way mirror where parents could observe the classroom at any time (without the knowledge of the children or teachers) so my husband and I were able to drop in at any point to check on the kids. And it was quite amazing - as soon as we left the room it only took a couple minutes before they were done crying/being sad (it often took me longer to stop!) When our son started going - there were many times when he wouldn't even say goodbye sometimes he'd be so into playing as soon as he walked in!
Sorry for the book. My advice, talk to your wife and family, and don't let anyone tell you what is right or what is the 'norm' - just do what you feel is right.

It's not an ego or macho thing, it's more of pride and being proud men. Nothing wrong with that, a proud father is what a lot of kids like myself never had growing up. My father was a deadbeat, my mother played the role of both daddy & mommy.
So I see why A.G. feels like he needs to give more for his kid(s) but I think being there is great enough. Trust me, I wish my father was like A.G.

Oh believe me I got a fair share of ass-whooping from both mom and the school teachers. I went to school in Thailand, where I grew up til I was 10, and bamboo butt-spanking was a popular sport among the teachers :(

that was the 80's though, i hope they change their way of school discipline by now; i'm sure it still goes on inside the homes though. Whether you like it or not, it works in Asia. That's why most kids there will obey their parents and elderlies, and they are respectful.
I got so corrupted and spoiled when we moved to the U.S.
