He did the same thing to Martha Stewart and Hugh Grant after their incidents. The thing is, they actually could laugh at themselves and it was all good and fun. Paris just wants to act like she is some huge victim and just wants to promote some lame product.

Oh come on he was relentless. I'm sure she wouldn't have agreed to do the show if she thought he was just going to have the piss taken out of her. And so what if she was promoting a lame product, loads of celebrities have perfumes now, plus she was there to talk about her film. I'm not a fan of anything she's ever done, by the way, I just thought it was plain mean.
  • I don't think Dave was out of line to ask her those questions. For one thing, this is part of his schtick and it always has been. (He's actually softened up a lot since his old NBC show!)

The other thing is that, frankly, Paris' infamy is really the only reason most people care about her. Her infamous acts have made her a household name. The only reason she even has a perfume and a movie, etc, is that she does things that people love to hate.

Yep, poor Paris, she treats everybody with the upmost respect, and in return, should be treated the same way.

he also questioned them, then moved on. she was kept on the spot the whole interview.

Paris is a stuck-up snob and Dave exploited that by brilliantly only (for the most part) focusing on her jail story and by telling her that this could be her legacy. :D

How does what Dave does and what Paris does differ? Dave gets paid an ass-load of money to be funny on TV and have a talk show. Paris is funny for reason's she doesn't get paid for.

Dave's the best - Leno wouldn't have the balls to do this on his show.

Doesn't stop it being a cheap shot "wow look at me, I can take the piss out of someone less intelligent than me" - sad.
  • How anybody can say Dave isn't funny and Paris didn't deserve what she got is beyond me. How can anybody stick up for her? She's a very high profile person and has to know that there's going to be consequences to her actions. What got you guys? The pouty face she made when she said she was sad? Dave is in the entertainment business....and THAT was entertainment. Besides, do you think she's really going to give a shit about the whole thing when she rakes in another few million for doing absolutely nothing? Don't feel sorry for Paris. She doesn't need anyone's sympathy.

Who cares if it was a cheap shot? It was a cheap shot that got a lot of laughs...out of me anyway...and probably millions more. Did you hear the audience? They were loving it.

  • I'm in the "Dave was brilliant" camp. She came in with a rehearsed speech about her "projects" and he knocked her off it. I hate when people say something they did wrong "was in the past, and I don't want to talk about it" It was a few months ago, and as Dave said, that's all anyone wants to talk about with her. Not her stupid perfume. Does anyone buy that garbage?

I love Dave, he's hillarious.. and that was by far one of the funniest ones I've seen.

I'm on both sides of this fence....
I thought Dave was perfect...he was fairly relentless and didn't cross any lines IMO....he stopped when it was getting to be too much.
And I thought Paris handled it with class. She DID laugh at most of his jokes, but got a little (understandably) frustrated toward the end.

I don't know what it is, but I find her kind of supidity almost endearing....can't decide if it's the easy-bimbo, or hate-fuck factor.

stupidity is one thing. but being an airhead AND thinking that you are the most important person in the world is different. especially when you've never done anything except be born to rich parents. Parents who never did anything either, except the father being lucky enough to be born a Hilton.

c'mon, I doubt she thinks she's that important. She plays up her roll 110%....but I think it's as much show as any other celebrity playing their part. Of course she has no REAL reason for being a celeb, even....but hmmm....man, she's a tough one to defend :D

paris was paid an ass-load of money to be on a tv show that was funny and lampooned her own image. i think it's safe to say she doesn't take herself too seriously or think she's anything special, or she never would have been on a show built around making fun of how sheltered she was growing up. i think she had a lot of fun playing up to the image she had. she got carried away and took it too far and now that she's trying to get away from it and change nobody is willing to give up their favorite punching bag. the people taking shots at her are the same as the people who still insist ed is a dour and humorless whiner... they delight in knocking someone else down and won't let any amount of change take away their favorite person to hate.

she's no genius, sure. but she's also not so horrible that she deserves the hatred people direct at her or the sheer twisted delight and glee people take in tearing her down.

in this instance, he is differentiated as the...host. he gets to ask the questions and lead the interview.

in general, he is differentiated by: having more personality than paris, and by not being born a rich brat. oh and by not flashing his vagina everywhere . . . . :D

She should step out of the spotlight and not go on talk shows if she doesn't want to answer questions about her life and pretend like it isn't relevant to her story.

I am not sure why you are sticking up for her - Dave didn't throw any hatred her way - he asked her pertinent questions about her life since the last time she had been on the show. And as the host of the talk show - he could ask her anything he wanted. And it was FUNNY! A very comical piece on a very funny show.

Poor Paris, huh? Poor thing is trying to pretend like none of it ever happened by not wanting to talk about it - except she went on a talk show that she hadn't been on since she had to cancel her appearance due to going to jail.

I like when Dave said "your friend Nicole was in jail too"! That was great...

  • It was awesome. AWESOME.

I don't know why anyone would have a problem with it. We all know Paris loves to take it on camera, so what's the problem now?

the way people were carrying on, i thought that was going to be much worse. it was dave being dave and paris being paris with her pouting. i thought it was funny...and she was a good sport about it for most of the time.
  • geniegenie Posts: 2,222

ah, somehow i feel uncomfortable myself. Paris may not be all that, but i can't remember her doing anything bad to anyone ( if she did please let me know ) , also she might appear to be a bit silly but she's kinda nice.

too bad she is not Courtney Love i would've love to have seen what she would've said in return. Paris should've just walked out, cause this whole show didn't promote her perfume at all.

And all those people just laughing at her......they think they are wiser than her, but they are oh so wrong.
