Some of you guys don't know Dave very well. He was just giving her some playfull ribbing. & as he is known for this, Paris also knew what she was getting into. Oh & 'News Flash!' ALL or 99.9%(if guest is late)of these talk show interviews are rehersed & a celeb can refuse to talk about ANY topic they choose before the show. Its television people...just entertainment.

I don't think anyone is judging Letterman for questioning her about the whole prison thing, nothing wrong with that - it's the fact that the whole interview was essentially an excuse to humiliate her. He was patronising and relentless in trying to make her look stupid. Even when they finally got on to the reason she was there, to promote her perfume, he made a big joke of it. It was just sad seeing a 60 odd year old bloke ridiculing a young girl, just because he could.

But most people are. It was comedy - some people get it and some don't. That's okay. There isn't anything in this world that everyone has to like.

The good news for Dave is that most of his fans thought it was funny - and most of Paris' fans felt bad for her. So everybody wins.

This isn't a Don Imus or Michael Richards issue - it was good clean comedy at a public figures expense. If we have reached the day where we cannot make fun of public figures - then I don't know what kind of world we have created.

We are in agreement though on Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien. I can't stand Jay and I love Conan. I can't wait for Jay to retire so I can start watching the Tonight Show again. Of course i will record it so i can watch Dave live (well not live but at the 11:30 time slot), then Conan afterwards until Dave retires himself. But Dave did just re-sign with CBS, which will keep him on the air after Jay Leno retires.

successful fashion lines, a hit tv series, and one of the best-selling dvd's of all time ... all by 27. i think it's amazing she's done anything. she could have sat back and done shit with her money. and you're all hypocrites becos you know that if you were chatting up a girl at a bar who was hot and you got her home to find out there was nothing under there, you'd be floored. just becos she has 100 people stalking her to take pictures of it doesn't make her any different from them. my ex was one of the most prudish and modest girls i know, but she went without on multiple occasions for various reasons. has nothing to do with wanting to show it off.

But how successful would any of these things be if she wasn't who she was? Do you actually think she could get her clothing line on the market if she was a fashion designer without any backing? I don't think there was anything to get or not get, I understand why it amuses some people, just watching someone get humiliated in an audience full of people seems really harsh to me. I have no strong feelings towards either of them.

That's cool - but the way I see it is, if we can't make fun of public figures who choose to live their lives in the public eye and then do things like get arrested and throw in jail for being stupid - then who can we make fun of on a comedy talk show?

there's a difference between poking fun and between taking pleasure in other people's pain and failings. the latter always seems to be the case with paris. and with britney. and with lohan. we all love to watch these people fall and condemn them for crimes we ourselves commit. becos i am certain nobody in this thread every did anything stupid while drunk. never had sex with anyone but their spouse. never went commando on laundry day. never used networking to get a job or a promotion. etc etc. you just weren't on camera.
