I  just might have to partake in this. pretty cool
  • What the hey.  Got 3 tickets,  bringing the kid as well.  He's not been to a Flyers game so this will be a cool way to intro him.  Get in early, get a shirt, see some music, walk around.  Game will be dessert.  Habs suck so perhaps he can see Flyers actually win.

Chuck Fletcher failed to trade JVR, DeAngelo or anyone else useful. We are terrible but have no chance at the #1 pick. We have no second round picks the next two years. I'd be up for some sort of, um, protest to get rid of this guy.

I don't know about that, we played them at home a few weeks ago and lost like 5-2.

    Goodbye Fletcher! 😀
Man did he leave a mess to clean up. The Ristolaynen and DiAngelo acquisitions were two of the worst moves in franchise history. (I'm sure I spelled their names wrong and I really don't care)

Fletcher had to go but the bigger issue is the executives at the highest level.  They never committed to a rebuild because that would hurt the bottom line too much.  They have finally gotten so bad they had to address the dwindling fan base.  Scott needs to go and Comcast needs to sell

I could be completely off base and maybe it's because I've never been a hockey guy and just not hearing as much Flyers talk as others... but I get the sense that more people in this town are still more angry over a few really bad Sixers seasons during the Obama administration than they are over the fact that the hockey team has been mostly garbage since even before those tanking years.

The team was very competitive in the 00's and beat Crosby's Penguins in 2012, then mediocre until the past couple years. They were one game from the Conf Finals in 2020, which isn't all that long ago. And lower seeds have been known to take home the Cup, which is unlike the NBA.

My problem with the team this year is they lied to us (and to themselves?) about being competitive when anyone doing any reasonable analysis could've seen they had no chance and should've been stockpiling future assets.

Yeah that's a good point about the lower seeds having more of a shot than in the NBA. A decade plus of mediocrity is what lead to the Sixers tank though. Hopefully the Flyers realize they need to burn it down and build it back up. I'd be incredibly frustrated if I were more of a hockey guy...

I mean, Hextall was doing a Process kind of thing but the team was borderline playoffs anyway during that time, and it seemed like it was working pretty well in early March 2020 (although Hex had already been canned by then, but Fletch hadn't done too much damage yet). I don't think any team in sports was impacted more by the pandemic than the Flyers. Quite the spiral.

I mean, we aren't the franchise that "lucks" into mega-stars. We aren't the Penguins or the Oilers. Even the crazy bad 2007 team we didn't even get Patrick Kane. By the way, Boucher not getting hurt and providing decent goaltending in 2010 and we win that Cup. We are just a cursed franchise, and Fletcher was unfathomably bad on top of that, and here we are. I am in all likelihood going to die with the team never winning a Cup my entire life.

Except all the young guys Hextall was counting on either are average or below average.  Only one really worth a lot is Hart.

And tell dbag Juggler the Flyers have never had the 2nd worst record in the history of the league like his still unemployed by the nba hero  Hinkie

Yeah I think "cursed" is a stretch. Since Snyder's been dead and, more importantly, the advent of the salary cap/restrictions they have been incredibly bad - downright incompetent - at building a roster.

By brute force. With uncapped money or by trading a king's ransom and battling though crazy arbitration.

    Hart is not that good.
Konecny is the best of that batch.
They were on the cusp of having a shot and it all fell apart.
The year we had a season ticket package was fun.  Nothing quite like hockey, in person.
The fans here deserve better.  I only went to one game this year so far (to see my favorite Kings) but am looking forward to the 10 game.
The revamp JLL did on the arena is cool.

Had to fire that shitbum.  Hope they turn it around.

Good/fun time last night at the game. That was my first Flyers game in over 10 years. Good to see a win, actually their goalie looked real good. Got my Gritty/PJ shirt, pic w/banner and a bobblehead.

I guess I got there too late for the bobblehead. Shirt is super hot, but ridiculous we took the last 3 L's. They had a giant stack of 2XL's left for all the apparently obese Pearl Jam fans. Who makes these allocation decisions? The arena music selection seemed like Metallica night rather than Pearl Jam night - they played like 15 seconds of Even Flow and that was pretty much it.

My younger son's first hockey game - he was transfixed. And it was my older son and I's first Flyers game since March 2020. Glad they won for the kids. IDK if it's Torts' system or what but everyone looked so sluggish. To my eye both teams just suck. Anyway that's my grumpy rant for a game I had fun at. LOL

Tres Mtns - TLA 3/23/11; EV - Tower Theatre 6/25/11; Temple of the Dog - Tower Theatre 11/5/16
  • Both of those teams do suck.  A lot.

Bobbleheads were on the way out, outside of the exits listed on the vouchers.

I heard a few other PJ songs mixed in but also laughed at how much Metallica was playing.  They usually have a few PJ songs so outside of playing it as they dropped the puck (Go, if memory serves) they did not seem to do anything special.

Funny that you mentioned the shirt sizes.  When we were standing in line I actually commented to my wife just how huge the pearl jam community is, in Philly.  The majority seemed obese.   I think lots of people say "I'm a large" when they are really XL or XXL.  They didn't have small, which is a bummer for the kids....but we got him a M, the wife a M, and a Large for a friend who admired the shirt from afar.  (One of their best looking shirts in a long time, but I'm a Kings fan.)

Our son's first game, as well, and he really liked it.  Left before the end as getting there at 530 and it being after 9....was enough time for us.

Last....the crowd cared about the game about as much as you would expect based on the product the past few years.  That is sad.  Fans deserve a better team to root for...I know the Flyers fans are a fun bunch when the product is better.
The love he receives is the love that is saved
