actually not at all because a hit like Stevens put on him would be grounds for about a 20 game suspension today. and him and leclair were prtty much unstoppable in the ridiculous clutch and grab and never a penalty in the 3rd period era. lindros would be ovechken with a more physical presence if he today or under today's rules.

anyone see the new Real Sports on HBO? they do a story on goons in hockey and the 3 deaths over the summer. scary stuff. similiar to the stories popping up about football players and long term health. don't understand the fascination hockey fans have with fighting. put me in the category of people who think it's time has passed. when we need to keep spots for no talent players like jody shelley and zac rinaldo it's time to rethink the usefullness.

i never thought of this year as a rebuilding year. more like a retooling year. i also didn't think they would get out of the gate this fast....should be a fun season

I don't give a shit about the #1 seed. Caps will probably get it again with that shitty division they play in. Whatever.

    This team is pretty good.

Don't know if we'll win the Cup or anything like that, but this is definitely a contending team. Big FU to the stupid Red Wings fans coming in here talking about the "rebuilding" after the Richie/Carter trades. For being "Hockeytown" they really are clueless.

They have 4 lines they can roll. Younger legs up front and some size. They may be too young if that makes sense. Right now they're getting a lot of contributions from the rookies but it's a long grind plus playoffs.

Young guys tend to wear down. As I type this I would still love Schenn to be up here..he's tearing up the AHL

Salary cap issues is why hes not here.

you would think if he was one of the top prospects in all of hockey...he should be with the big club....

i'm looking forward to seeing him play.

if he turns into a solid player, this trade could turn out to be very lopsided in favor of the Flyers. :o

I didn't see the piece on HBO thats probbaly the only show I miss when I cancelled my HBO. I am hockey purist I guess. I still think there is a place in the game for it. The old fashioned one-way player I think is being phased out. Most guys today can fight/skate play both ends of the ice. I didn't like the Shelley signing at all.

I'm too young to remember the 70's but the game has come a long way in fighting and what they allow and don't allow.

Yeah its been a salary cap issue is what I read

Thats what I was saying about the trade. I wanted Simmonds here last year when the rumor was him for Carter. He's supposed to be the real deal.

Nice to have so many young options

feel free to try and explain the purpose that hockey allows guys that have no baring on the game or talent to beat the shit out of each other. and don't give me this protection bullshit. all they do is beat on each other. it's not like the goons fight regular players anymore. so sidney crosby or ovechkin gets hit and each team sends out a goon to fight each other - how is that protecting crosby or any other top line player? it's stupid and has outlived it's usefullness.

of course you don't think goals are important so...

and the gayest thing said in any of these threads was the dudes talking about pumpkin beer. beer shouldn't be flavored with fucking pumpkin. that's retarded.

but hey those are just a few of my many correct opinions :D

zedeno chara is a pretty good player right? did you see him fight last night to try to spark a struggling team? nathan horton did as well. happens all the time. it's part of the game.

you see a guy or two get hurt and overreact like everyone else. it's sports, there are going to be injuries.

the pussification of the USA continues...so annoying

you can spark a team with a big hit or maybe even a fucking goal. and i don't see how sending one of the 3 best defensive in the league off the ice for a minimum of 5 minutes can be considered a good thing for a team. try again...

pumpkin beer...speaking of the pussification of america

so you're saying that a player can't spark a team with a fight?? dude, you are lost. this could be worse than your defense or ryan howard or your theory that NFL teams should pass 90% of the time.

Remember game 6 of the playoff series between the pens/flyers a few years ago (you know the one where your boy jeff carter did nothing. well, that was every playoff series). The flyers were up 3-0 and max talbot goaded dan carcillo into a fight. talbot got his ass kicked, but tried to spark his team. crosby scored a minute after the fight and the pens went on to win 4-3.

so yeah, you're wrong as usual. I don't know why I bother with you. I have better sports debates with my dog

seriously, what male sports fans doesn't like fights??

Oh no, they're about to punch each other. turn it off, I can't take the violence!! Someone might get hurt

You must love the new NFL rules where guys aren't allowed to hit each other

I'll drink any beer. I like variety. Pumpkin beer is good. I really don't see the big deal, it's not like I said I like wine coolers or frozen drinks.

Stouts and porters tend to be my favorite types of beer. Guinness is my #1. I'll drink anything from miller lite to shit with fruit in it (Hoegarden, Blue Moon, Corona) to ginger beer to budweiser red.

I love beer. I just get sick of drinking the same shit all the time.

It's ok. Some people don't know anything about hockey or beer.
