woman in my office has taken this afternoon off SICK cos her fucking dog died!!!!!

seriously?

cant wait till i write my sick note for when my goldfish dies of leprosy... i want at least a fucking week.

ok, i know some dog owners will post saying how its like having one of the family die.. but its not really... its a dog.

an afternoon off sick.. i'm fucking aghast at that... wasnt like it was sudden... they knew it was ill and has been for weeks.
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

What an unbelievably insensitive thing to say. What happened, did you have to actually do 5 more minutes of work because she stayed home to mourn a family pet?

Obviously you have no clue what it feels like to have a pet die, when you do maybe you'll think twice about posting things that make you sound like a jerk.

its not insensitive... i didnt get an afternoon off to attend a funeral of a family friend once unless i took it unpaid or out of my leave.... i should have taken it off sick.

whats she going to do at home? lie on a couch and cry for hours? i can understand getting upset or whatever.... but going home sick? weird.

perhaps i should have mentioned that our family dog once attacked me when i was aged 2 years or so... i dont like them... monkeys on the other hand are much funnier. i like them.

I'd take a week off if my pet monkey died right enough.. maybe a half day for a dog aint too bad.

Just a thought, but perhaps she needs to take care of the animal with some type of service that is provided by a Vet?

Something that needs to be done during the working week as weekends are not an option?

Not that it matters, but perhaps she has kids who need to be around someone they can talk to about death.

Sure losing a pet is not the same as losing a family member, but for some it is the first time to deal with death.

There are plenty of things to be upset about, this one....... not so much.

    +1

It's not "just a dog." Pets, especially dogs in most cases, are companions that can be with you 10+ years. And when you're with anything that long, especially a living thing that loves you and makes you happy, OF COURSE you'll be devastated when it dies. I can't even imagine how I'll feel when my dog eventually dies.

That was a real dick post, dunkman.

You've never had a dog did you? And who cares what the chick does with her sick day? I'm calling in sick tomorrow and going on a 3 day drinking binge down the shore - nobody else's business but mine.

come on man. dont be a dick. her dog died. you grow a little more attached to dog's who live with you up to 10 to 13 years, than a f'ing goldfish who you have for a couple weeks before flushing it down the toilet.

and, really, whats so bad about taking an afternoon off for this anyway? the way you posted, it makes it seem like it was just an afternoon, and not a full day's off. hell, i've taken a couple hours in the morning off to take my dog to the vet to get her fixed. if she does die in the middle of the week, years from now, i can certainly see myself taking an afternoon off at least. plus, if this lady had your children or something, she probably has to console them for a bit too. have a heart.

yea, i didnt mean to say she had "your" children. though, maybe she did and you just hate this lady or something. i dont know

ok, must confess i wasnt expecting much support on this one :D no need for the hatred though... but i really dont like dogs. but i'm pretty sure if my budgie died and i posted here that i went home sick as a result i'd be mocked. why any different for a dog?

plus , as i already said.... had to take an afternoon off myself once out of my leave to attend a funeral of a family friend (more a friend of my wife's family but i did know him pretty well) and the same boss gave this woman the afternoon off.... slightly unfair i think.

People tend to have more of a relationship with their dogs than with budgies.

I assume you're familiar with Greyfriars Bobby? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greyfriars_Bobby

Let's see a budgie, or indeed a family member, sitting by someone's grave for 14 years.

he has a thing about hating gypsies.. it was funny... as apparently you can hate another member of the human race... but fuck with the love of a dog and you become a Message Pit outcast  ;)
