You're joking, right?'We're learning songs for baby Jesus' birthday. His mum and dad were Merry and Joseph. He had a bed made of clay and the three kings bought him Gold, Frankenstein and Merv as presents.'

I saw his work in Bizarre magazine (incidentally where I read about a number of new 'modern' artists in cluding Elizabeth McGrath, I mentioned earlier) and fell inlove with his stuff. Very clever and appeals to my *ahem* slightly twisted nature
I didn't know you were a photographer/artist?Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

there is no *right*... but modern art=shit being someones opinion is now wrong?? hmmmmm ...
the examples of modern art that i gave ( and others) are shit... opinion it may be.. but my opinion is the right one
i didn't say your OPINION is wrong...but as i've read you post a few times in the past....then YOUR post should've clearly stated "modern art = shit imo" eh? you presented the statement as a 'fact' rather than simply your opinion. so no, i don't disgree with your right to hold such an opinion...,moe power to ya, i simply disagree with it. and yes, i agree with civ, your thread title, very misleading...b/c obviously, you did not mean to lump ALL modern art into that one broad category of shite. fair enough.that said, there IS plenty of shite art out there...altho i don't argue their right to call it 'art'....merely may disagree about it being 'good' art.
all semantics in any case. we all react/enjoy/appreciate...whatever...for our own highly personla/subjective reasons. even the shite stuff, gets you to think, to question, to discuss....and that's all cool.

every post i make or anyone makes about a subjective topic is their opinion... i'm not going to say imo after every thread i start or thing i say.
"burnt bread tastes better" was a thread i did about last week sometime... should i edit it now... do you want me to add imo!!
i thought it was plainly obvious?oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.0 -

...paint as well as him, or come up with such imaginings on canvas. also, rotko, aint' your bag...fine...but to dismiss his work entirely as being easy or elementary, is to not even LOOK at one of his paintings in the real world. there Is such complexity in his colors.......
i really dislike the whole 'oh my kid could do that' scenario...b/c ya know what? maybe, maybe not. most...i would say not. and even if the 'technical skill' is easy enough to master to create it, the concepts of it, probably not so much. this is also why photography as art was dismissed for so long, and still gets some dismissal b/c "anyone can take a picture." sure, many CAN take a picture, but many more can't 'make' one...nor come up with a decent composition, capture the light correctly, hell even get their horizon lines straight. it's not just about ability and so much more into thought and composure.Stay with me...

it is!
however, you HAVe in the past clearly stated (jokingly i am sure) that people SHOULD say, imo' with such statements. i'd go and look it up, but i can't be bothered.anyhoo....i DISagree with YOUR opinion...that is not the same as saying you are wrong for having it. THAT was my point all along.

If you'd posted 'Songs = shit' I would've said 'No they're not.' And then I would've corrected your grammar.
Hey Dunk, was this a Conceptual thread? No-one knows what you meant by it.
and, well done.Stay with me...

Modern Art = Shit.
The thing about art, modern, conceptual or otherwise, is that good art will force a reaction (good or bad), it will challenge you, it may even make you uncomfortable, but most importantly it will stay with you.
I ask my students to be open to the possibilities. They don't have to like it, but at a minimum acknowledge it in context and see what happens.
Also, there has to be something to this black square idea; we've been pondering it for nearly a century.0 -
