LMAO!! I'm an art lover, but i'm kinda on the fence about modern art.... some of it i like, some if it makes you go "hmmmm"....

shit, or not shit. in my mind, the whole idea behind art is to make you think, to cause you to feel something, to ask questions, to start discussions...

so if you're standing there, looking at a plain laquered red slab of wood in a museum, and wondering "why the fuck is this art? this is shit... i'm so angry!" and then you tell your friend about how shitty you think it is, and you have a good laugh over it... well then, it's done it's job! :p:D

here are a couple of personal 'favorites' of mine: ;)

I'm not sure talking about the "shit" you saw inappropriately placed inside a climate controlled museum makes it any more art than the pile of pigeon shit I ogled while I sat outside of the museum smoking. If you are correct, and I am in the wrong, have I now not transformed the pigeon shit into art merely by talking about it?

    ;)

Red fucking plank! WTF? Nevermind. You'll just never be able to convert me on this one.

    nobodies done that..

    modern art (that equals) shit

    then i gave examples.

    songs = shit

    Candle In The Wind

am i now saying all pop songs written between 1970 and 1978 are shit.. no... that one song is.

not one of you has posted a pic that otherwise disproves the theory thus far... ergo... shit.

even being short-sighted i can make better art using a potato thats had a daisy carved into it

'Modern art = shit' doesn't mean 'Modern art that is shit', it means Modern art *is* shit.

If you'd posted 'Songs = shit' I would've said 'No they're not.' And then I would've corrected your grammar. :)

Hey Dunk, was this a Conceptual thread? No-one knows what you meant by it. ;)
'We're learning songs for baby Jesus' birthday. His mum and dad were Merry and Joseph. He had a bed made of clay and the three kings bought him Gold, Frankenstein and Merv as presents.'

    I think he is awesome.
    His name is Jeffrey Scott.
The opening page has one of my favorite pieces by him. It is SWF, some of his other stuff is not.

dunk to say modern art = shit to me reads as A:LL modern art = shit. for me, that equation is wrong, pure and simple.

wait a minute.. didnt you just say this:-
and hey, opinions are like assholes eh? and we're all entitled to em. doesn't make one *right* though of course. we all can think what we want to think, but i personally think it's rather closed to say YOUR particular definition of 'what art IS' is the ONLY acceptable definition.

there is no *right*... but modern art=shit being someones opinion is now wrong?? hmmmmm ...

the examples of modern art that i gave ( and others) are shit... opinion it may be.. but my opinion is the right one ;)

Well, you could turn that into a found object sculpture. But what's the meaning behind it? :D

yes... but still all "modern artists".

that's why Dunky's thread title is misleading....

    it should be more specific:

    "crappy-conceptual-pretentious-bollocks-that-i-could-create-myself-(but actually didn't) = shite (IMO)" ;):D
Yes, that is what I thought he was talking about. I know Dunk well enough to know he wouldn't make such a broad statement. But you are right.
He seems to be unimpressed with postmodern art, which can be understandable.

A bunch of pretentious wank. If you like it then cool, but to me art will always be about pretty pictures of fileds and flowers. Not a man in a fucking bear suit.
