Picnic on the Sunday sounds great, but I agree we need a back up.

Or we could be English for the day and go for Sunday Roast (without the hour wait!)
:) that's true... there are quite a few decent pub grub places near where I live... with CARVERYS so no wait :)

    :D thanks Jeremy :)

Jenny, you can always stay at mine too the Saturday night if we're just gonna go somewhere local for carvery. Cos there's a few people leaving on the Sunday so we can't really have any concrete plans to go into town I suppose.

*thinks to self 'where AM I gonna put all these people'* :D

I've got hotel for Sat night. For Sun night I only need space for a backpack. I'll just slump over it. Or I can take Randal's offer. But that means splitting up me and Steph.

Things should clear up a bit for Monday night, right?

hey, I was only joking, no need to panic :p

I have couch and fold out bed so that's 3 people. and I have floor space for at LEAST 20, lol, so that's no prob (some people are even going home Sunday so it's mainly saturday night will be the most squashed). Is Randall coming out with us do ya know?

I'm calm as a cucumber. :D wouldn't have the energy to get all worked up either - yesterday, today and tomorrow have and will be spent with a bunch of 10-year-olds. :)

oh jaysus, that's my worst nightmare :o

Ok, we still have to pick somewhere decent for Saturday now... and thankfully it doesn't have to be close to the parade route... since there is NO parade Saturday :D but we have a couple of people arriving that morning who are gonna need somewhere that's relatively easy to find. So REASONABLY central, rugby, food and reasonably big :)

As long as there's places to get drinks all weekend and somewhere to watch the Rugby on Saturday, I don't care :), I'll trust the Irish ;) (I'm crazy I guess)
I'm sure that with all the smokers, we'll be spending time outside anyway
:) excellent... when ya going to London? I'll be there the weekend before for Neil young.
    you're staying at Babs?
if anyone needs somewhere to crash afterwards...I'm not going to see Neill (unless someone wants to pay for my ticket.. a standing please.. :)), but I live quite close (for London) ..well, 5-10mn walk to the bus stop and a 10-20mn bus ride depending on traffic... I cycle it in about 10mn.
I'll meet you lot up before and probably after for drinks anyway, with it being so close..
  • Pearl jam fans and st paddys day :D count me in!!!

oh there will be places to drink all weekend... and there WILL be rugby. Even if I've to stay at home and fuck everyone else out :D although that's obviously not gonna happen :D and of COURSE you trust us... when have we let ya down?

well, a smoking area hasn't figured in my deciding... cos with any pub ya can just pop out the door, have a cigarette and back in. I'd love to sit there smoking all the time but I'm fine going out.

I've yet to figure out the accommodation. Have to see if Simon's coming first before we decide sleeping arrangements and stuff like that. I'll know in a day or two :)

How bout the Big Tree in Phibsboro? I've also been told that Sinnotts at the top of Grafton St. might be ok??

Lads next time you're in Dublin just do yourselves a favour & avoid Temple Bar at all costs...
Back in the early 90's it was truly a beautiful/ramshackle spot and could safely & honestly be called a Cultural quarter with bands & actual struggling artists/writers etc every step...Pj wandered around there in '93 & even went into the Rock garden (now the awful Eamon Dorans-though Dorans do have Thin Lizzy's stage sign)
As we say here, nowadays, there's more cultre in a Yogurt!! it's English stag parties getting sick on English hen parties. sad but true.
Elephant & Castle is a lovely restaurant right there on the square but that's really it as far as anyhting genuinely good goes.

good pub crawl in town as follows:
Grogans, south william st. (proper old Dublin bar in which you guys WILL be stared at by loadsa cranky aulfellas in caps toting newspapers who will hit you with same for sittin in their seats but have a pint & split. 'Gerrup ouwa that!' will be your cue to get fuckin up.)
the international bar, wicklow st,( downstairs is great. nothing about this bar is as its name suggests, its pure Dublin. enjoy it)
dakota south william st, (bit up its own arse but good)
davy byrnes, off grafton st (its mentioned in Joyce's Ulysses! therefore you must have one there)
Bruxelles, off grafton st (one of Dublins original rock bars-not much use anymore. I had a well spent youth there.)
McDaids-directly opposite Bruxelles-(an amazing old dublin bar-Brendan behan drank there(where didnt he drink) its classic)
The long hall, georges st-(you MUST Have a pint in the long hall! one of the very best!!)
Hogans, georges st-its great big windows & somehow always reminds me of seattle...
    and of course...

Whelans, Whelans, Whelans....it's not the same but it's still better than most pubs for many different reasons.

I'm figuring your all a buncha light weight foreign cunts so that's all you can probably handle & it goes against my guts to give away such deadly spots to a loada wandering pearl jam fans to have a nerd-athon in but i couldn't with good conscience let you all drink in fuckin BUSKERS like last time...fuck sake..don't let me down ok? and EAT something before you start drinking!!
theres a book we have called the best 100 bars in Dublin. and they missed loadsa great ones!!

you should enjoy these though..theyre great...

    see you out there maybe..
    thanks dime

do ya know I've been thinking about those three. big tree and sinnotts can be jammed at the best of times (I'm not a big fan of sinnotts though, can get very very stuffy and all those stairs to go out for a fag  ). I've only heard good things about D2 though, could be worth a shot :)

:D that's randall I take it... nobody went to Buskers, lol.

Hmm... I don't know a lot of those pubs listed but the ones I do know (international's not very big, dakota IS up its own arse, bruxelles is fab but always jammed so Paddys should be ridiculous and I dunno what any of them are like for sport :o )

D2 is good, and it's right beside Diceys, Crawdaddy and Tripod, and the Bleeding Horse for that matter. Good up around there.

Big tree is a bit out of the way dontcha think?

Pegasus list form the other forum is pretty good. The international is great, but it has a capacity of 13 so I don't think it's a goer. Dakota's a nice place too. And Hogans is deadly.

I wouldn't completely avoid Temple Bar either. It'll be jammers, but at least have a walk around and see what the buzz is like.

Not mentioned - The Mercantile and the Bankers and The Stags Head.

Temple Bar gets in a state at 2am, up until then its actually ok (once ye avoid all the gypo's trying to rob ye). Ye hear the diddley-ay music and there's usually a street performer or two knockin around :) And the Big Tree is only outta the way for you :p hehe

mercantile was last year, that's the one I'm trying to get away from :D . The big tree isn't really outta the way... could get the train straight from mine to drumcondra.... oh I like the bleeding horse :) . So D2's looking good then? :) Ah I've nothing against temple bar at all... that post was obviously randall, he can't stand the place :D
