No idea. Totally pointless remake, they must have had to rewrite the ending slightly I guess.

    Requiem for a Dream

hey i've seen this movie! but not from the beginning, i started watching it when it was half way through.
pretty shocking, it made me sad. seeing someone's self-destruction is something i would only wish to my enemy.

what happened to that old lady was awful, but it sure had some good visuals.

I was really disappointed with Requiem for a Dream. It was good, no doubt, I just thought it was going to be incredible. I'd been recommended it several times and told it was better than The Basketball Diaries. It's not in my opinion. The story was excellent but I didn't like the visual style much and the direction was a bit dodgy. Maybe I just don't get Darren Aronofsky. Jared Leto was fantastic in it though. He should stick to acting. That band of his are horrible.

No, never seen them. Fight Club got turned off after an hour, on account of it being totally wanky, preposterous, pompous, pointless, badly acted, badly written, corny, cliched, ridiculous bullshit. But apparently it's a lot of peoples favourite film !!!!!!!!
I once saw him in this stupid film where he was a priest, that was shit also, so I've never bothered since.
Nic Cage, is also a joke...over acting anyone?
Jamie, I agree with you about fight club... and keeping the faith... the latter was shite, the former was watchable but that's about it.

BUT you really have to see American history X... nothing pretentious about it, just a great story BRILLIANTLY acted. Possibly one of the most shocking and disturbing films I've EVER seen. Please just watch this ONE!

ah, I'd totally forgotten about this one, DiCaprio played it well, also one of Mark Wahlberg earlier performances. Michael Imperioli who always seems to play characters who lose themselves through drugs has a minor-ish part as the guy who remains on the wrong track and tempts Leo near the end. Lorraine Bracco plays the mother also, reckon if I saw it now I'd recognize many more.

    1. Pi (3,14...), another Daren Aronofsky (Requiem for a dream) movie. A little black and white flick. Pretty good one, with a little Terry Gilliam thing going on there.

    2. Also I'd highly recommend Adam's Apple. A movie from Denmark. Very funny, cinical and dark.

    Here's a little clip from this one : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHtkDSKSU1s

    3. The Thin Red Line by Terence Malick which some may find a bit too philosophical, but basically, one of the best war movie ever.

    4. In the Mouth of Madness by John Carpenter with Sam Neil;pretty weird

    5. I recently (two days ago) watched the Constant Gardner and I have to say it moved me.

maybe you expected too much? it's better to go and watch/do something not knowing it at all. let's just settle on the fact that you don't understand Darren ;) because i loved it because of its visual, and acting was brilliant. i can't remember much about her son....well i just remember feeling for him when he had to lie to his mother and pretend to be something he is far from being....it made me slightly uncomfortable. And his poor mother she looked like a proper addict....it was amazing to see her life get from bad to worse and the latter stage of her life looked like depiction of hell. i wasn't told by anyone about this movie i was randomly watching tv, changing channels until i came up to this movie...first few minutes it was just like anyother drug movie...but then i really got sucked into it.

as for Backetball Diaries, i know you know that i was a Leo fan, and yes because of that i watched a bit of that movie, though i can't remember now whether i watched it till the end and just don't remember what the hell went on in there or switched to watching something else :o

I think I did expect too much :) I normally like films like that and I heard it was brilliant and just felt a tad let down. The mother annoyed me a bit too :o Marlon Wayans was great in it though.

As for The Basketball Diaries, you need to watch it again and pay attention :) It's brilliant. Di Caprio is amazing in it, though as I've told you before, I actually like his acting :D

brainofPJ suggested this in the underrated movies thread. So here we guy.

The idea is to recommend some of your favourite movies, (like the recommend a band thread in Other music) preferably lesser known movies, so everyone can go watch them and broaden their horizons :) Doesn't matter what genre it falls under, if it's foreign or whatever. Anything goes
So no Pulp Fictions, Raging Bulls, or any other giant movies that everyone already knows.

brainofPJ already recommended Salton Sea to me, which I never heard of, so I'm downloading it now.

I'll start off with District 13. It's an awesome French action movie from Luc Besson. A cop is sent into a closed off area in Paris which is overrun with criminals to stop a nuke from going off. Similar premise to Escape from New York, Very silly, but it's great fun and the action is amazing. Loads of Parkour all the way through, and some cool martial arts and stuff. Well worth watching.

stand by me. 4 kids go looking for a dead body.

the warriors. crazy gangs in new york try to stop the warriors from getting to coney island (their home turf) because they are setup.

the life aquatic with Steve Zissou. Sea Experts hunt the Jaguar Shark who ate one of their crew members.

the cube. Group of people wake up in a square room that is part of a giant square of many rooms making up the cube, the rooms are all booby trapped and each person has a specific role to get them out of the cube.

im gonna get you sucka. Military veteran goes after Mr. Big

Jack Frost. Convict being transported gets in an accident and is mutated into a snowman. (shannon elizabeth's first movie and she has sex with the snowman.) no words and this is not a porno.

North. Kid divorces his parents and goes on a world search for better parents.

The backwards structure, the camera spins, hadn't seen a film like it before. Near the start in the club with the red flashing lights, sirens, the moans: was scary as fuck! Captivating in a negative sense mind, they took what is unfortunately an ordinary-ish tale and made me want to reach it's conclusion, or start as it was.

I see what you mean... I guess all the violence is a BIG turn off for me... and the director playing with movie boundries like that is a little childish and irresponsible maybe... but I see what you mean...
