  • I DO get your point honestly. There really was no need to fiction it up BUT when I watch a film, as 'true story' as it claims to be, I expect a dramatisation of an interesting story. I mean Gerry Conlon wasn't even IN the film, what the fuck? :D
    The Astoria??? Orgazmic!
    Verona??? it's all surmountable
Dublin 23.08.06 "The beauty of Ireland, right there!"
    Wembley? We all believe!
Copenhagen?? your light made us stars
    Chicago 07? And love

I just find some actors unconvincing, Norton is one such individual. Tom Cruise is borderline for me also, as for Nicholas Cage...well ? :o

:o Norton is the only actor who could make me sympathise with a neo-nazi.

This movie is truly amazing. My fav foreign movie, and one of my all time favorites in general.

About a young Che Guevara (played by Gael Garcia Bernal). But it doesn't really touch on the whole communist revolutionary aspect of his life. It is about his journey from Argentina to Venezuela on motorcycle with his best frined. Really a touching and great movie! You must see this movie!

oh god jamie... edward norton unconvincing? maybe in keeping the faith but that was just a shite film. have you seen the score, american history x, primal fear, 25th hour?
he bugged me in the italian job but thats cause his character was so abhorrant.

as for nic cage.. there's something about him that doesnt quite sit right with me.

No, never seen them. Fight Club got turned off after an hour, on account of it being totally wanky, preposterous, pompous, pointless, badly acted, badly written, corny, cliched, ridiculous bullshit. But apparently it's a lot of peoples favourite film !!!!!!!!
I once saw him in this stupid film where he was a priest, that was shit also, so I've never bothered since.
Nic Cage, is also a joke...over acting anyone?

Re Palahniukk..I'll take your word for it, I've had that thrown at me by a dozen snotty student types (not including you there), but it just seemed ridiculous, and for them to see something in it seemed pretentious to me....emporers new clothes, if you will! But what do I know?
Did he direct that? That was years ago as I remember, it was god awful.

  • Flirting, an old Australian film with Nicole Kidman in a small role...one of her first I think

Strange Days, written by James Cameron(yeah, THAT James Cameron) but a great story here... it's a bit Hollywood, but enough unHollywood to be a film I really enjoyed...

Affliction, with Nick Nolte as the Afflicted

Windy City Heat, the funniest Fake documentary you will ever see!

St Elmo's Fire, one of my favorites to watch on a shitty day

Less Than Zero, awesome Robert Downey

  • whatever you do, don't waste your money on 'The Night Listener', with Robin Williams. It is the worst movie I think I've ever seen. And I've seen a lot of bad movies. I don't think I will ever watch another one of his movies again. That's about the third movie of his in a row I didn't like.

"Reign Over Me" is fantastic, not sure if it's been mentioned already.

and to whoever recommended "City of God" already, it's a great choice. and if you know the risks and stuff that the production crew went through to make the movie i think you'll enjoy it more.

I thought the scene over the dinner table where he rants at his mothers jewish suitor was powerful, other than that, I didn´t think it was anything that special.
Anybody seen The Firm or I.D. ??

think there may have been some artistic license used in that film y´know. It never depicted the poverty of the age to it´s true extent.

    Trees Lounge.
    Dead Man.
    Nine Queens(Nueve Reinas).
    Five Easy Pieces.

I have to disagree with you. That's a great scene but, for me (and I'm a Norton fanboy so I'm biased :p) I think the most powerful moments in that film are the ones in which he says nothing. After he curbstomps the guy and the police arrest him, I find the moment where he slowly turns to the camera with his hands behind his head with the triumphant smile on his face absolutely chilling. Likewise, this scene, with the symbolism in the mirror, completely makes the film for me.

I think the film could've been very different in the hands of a lesser actor. There are moments that are pretty dodgy, two many slow-motions shots etc but Norton carries it in my opinion.

Lots of great movies have been mentioned here, but I cant believe nobody mentioned any Almodovar movie, I love Almodovar and I could recommend:
Carne Trémula -> aka Live Flesh (USA) Brilliant!
Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios -> aka Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (USA) classic!
Hable con ella -> aka Talk to Her (International: English title)
I could go on with spanish movies... Bigas Luna is an interesting director and also Alex De la Iglesia is (La Comunidad is very good, aka Common Wealth (UK) and I strongly recommend it! :))
I like Kusturica too and from him I would recommend Underground, it is crazy brilliant!
ohhh I could go on and on... I love movies!! don't worry I'll stop now! :o

Last one: Bananas, Woody Allen's masterpiece!!

    EDIT:

He's one of my favourites too, not a huge film buff but I remember the Spike Lee film and Sleepers, in the former I certainly could imagine it falling down a little without him.

Very confusing I found this! Or perhaps Paz Vega was the cause of my loss of concentration, fine, fine lady!!

Y'know there has been a hollywood remake of Nine Queens, looks like they slaughtered it from the clip I saw.
  • if not mentioned- Gross Pointe Blank

    great lil movie
