I'd love it. I guess he doesn't exactly fit the image I have of Roland due to all the artwork in the DT books plus the fact that I can't get Eastwood out of my head when I think about who Roland looks like, but I just want a quality actor. I think that is necessary to give this instant credit and Bardem is a quality actor and should do great should he choose to accept it.DAL-7/5/98,10/17/00,6/9/03,11/15/13

Just got this in my inbox, not sure how I feel about that. I mean, I love me some more Stephen King, but kind of feels like dipping back into the well 1 too many times on this series. I'm sure I'll change my mind once I start reading it
"Dear Constant Readers,
At some point, while worrying over the copyedited manuscript of the next book (11/22/63, out November 8th), I started thinking—and dreaming—about Mid-World again. The major story of Roland and his ka-tet was told, but I realized there was at least one hole in the narrative progression: what happened to Roland, Jake, Eddie, Susannah, and Oy between the time they leave the Emerald City (the end of Wizard and Glass) and the time we pick them up again, on the outskirts of Calla Bryn Sturgis (the beginning of Wolves of the Calla)?
There was a storm, I decided. One of sudden and vicious intensity. The kind to which billy-bumblers like Oy are particularly susceptible. Little by little, a story began to take shape. I saw a line of riders, one of them Roland's old mate, Jamie DeCurry, emerging from clouds of alkali dust thrown by a high wind. I saw a severed head on a fencepost. I saw a swamp full of dangers and terrors. I saw just enough to want to see the rest. Long story short, I went back to visit an-tet with my friends for awhile. The result is a novel called The Wind Through the Keyhole. It's finished, and I expect it will be published next year.
It won't tell you much that's new about Roland and his friends, but there's a lot none of us knew about Mid-World, both past and present. The novel is shorter than DT 2-7, but quite a bit longer than the first volume—call this one DT 4.5. It's not going to change anybody's life, but God, I had fun.

Bump.
Javier Bardem, really? I'm having an incredibly hard time with this one. To be honest I was kind of hoping for a cast of no-names. I guess that wouldn't be very marketable, but Bardem, really? I read that SK is happy with the choice and I hope that I'm wrong about him being able to play Roland.
I always thought James McEvoy would be perfect as Eddie Dean and the girl from True Blood - the one that plays Tara - she would make a perfect Susannah/Detta/Odetta.
And I'm PRAYING that Oy is not a CGI creature, he's probably my favorite one out of the whole lot!WI '98, WI '99 (EV), WI '00, Chgo '00, MO '00, Champaign '03, Chgo '03, WI '03, IN '03, MI '04, Chgo '06:N1 & 2, WI '06, Chgo '07, Chgo '08 (EV:N1), Chgo '09:N1 & 2, Chgo '11 (EV:N1), WI '11:N1 & 2, Philly '12, Wrigley '13, Pitt '13, Buff '13, Detroit '14, MKE '14, Wrigley '16: N1 & N2, Seattle '18 N2, Wrigley '18: N1 & N2, Fenway '18 N1, STL '22, St Paul '23 N2, Chgo '23: N1 & N2, Wrigley '24 N1 & 20 -

I completely agree. I haven't seen all that many movies with Javier in them...doesn't he have a really thick accent? Maybe i'm wrong but I don't remember Roland really having all that much of an accent.
I totally could have seen Vigo Mortensen playing Roland!! But I really like your idea of no-names!
I also agree that Tara from True Blood would make a great Susannah!Toronto - 2009

Yeah, he's got a Spanish accent, which to me isn't Roland at all. AND he's not long tall and ugly!!! Viggo would have been an ideal choice, my only problem with him is that I'd be thinking of him as Aragorn the whole time. If Clint Eastwood had a son that looked EXACTLY like him then that's who should play Roland!!WI '98, WI '99 (EV), WI '00, Chgo '00, MO '00, Champaign '03, Chgo '03, WI '03, IN '03, MI '04, Chgo '06:N1 & 2, WI '06, Chgo '07, Chgo '08 (EV:N1), Chgo '09:N1 & 2, Chgo '11 (EV:N1), WI '11:N1 & 2, Philly '12, Wrigley '13, Pitt '13, Buff '13, Detroit '14, MKE '14, Wrigley '16: N1 & N2, Seattle '18 N2, Wrigley '18: N1 & N2, Fenway '18 N1, STL '22, St Paul '23 N2, Chgo '23: N1 & N2, Wrigley '24 N1 & 20 -
Trying to bring this thread back! After watching Game of Thrones I'm wishing that DT would be made in an HBO series. I heard there's some major issues with Ron Howard's project, so I guess there's still a possibility of that happening. I don't know if I said this years ago in this thread (which just popped back onto my radar today) but I think Roland would be awesome played by the guy that played Tony on 24. I think his name is Bernard something?0

I read on IMDB that The Dark Tower will be released in 2013 and is directed by Ron Howard. What problems are there with this? I am anxiously awaiting this so I hope that everything goes smoothly. I think Javier Bardem is a great choice for Roland. Kind of hoping that this becomes like a Lord of the Rings or dare I say it (Harry Potter  ) where each novel gets it's own movie. I think it is just a fantastic series of books. I plan on re-reading them since I read the first 4 back in the 90's and read 4-7 when they came out in the mid 2000's.He who forgets will be destined to remember.
