as far as the dark tower series goes...i tried reading the gunslinger when it came out, but just couldn't get into it so i took a complete pass on the DT series. but now that i'm back into the novels, i'm going to try it again, and i'm sure i'll have more success with it the second time around. i had the same problem with the tommyknockers the first time i read it...didn't really care for it. but i re-read it this summer and completely fell in love with it, at the same time kicking myself for not enjoying it the first time around.

Yeah, King fans can be as fanatic as PJ fans. But I think King has been slipping lately. I really didn't like Lisey's Story and I hated Dreamcatcher. From a Buick 8 was OK, but forgettable. I loved Duma Key though.

Try The Dark Tower again. It is his masterpiece. You kind of have to fight through The Gunslinger though. After that, it just takes off. Drawing of the Three is amazing and takes the story to a whole new, unexpeceted pace. Probably helps that it was written years later.

I feel the opposite. I enjoyed Lisey's Story a lot, although I do have to admit it took me longer to get into than other King books. I really, really enjoyed Dreamcatcher and remember it every time I see bacon. From a Buck 8 wasn't really all that great to me. It was interesting, and certainly worth reading (to me) but not one of my favorites.

King is tossing around the idea of another Dark Tower novel. May be more of a pre-quel. He even has a working title: The Wind Through the Keyhole.

suppose to take place between book 4 and 5. seems like he is just milking the series to me.

I've heard most of his books have tie ins to the Dark Tower.. The Stand, The Talisman, and so on.. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he did more books.

Almost all of them do, especially the newer books.


Between 4&5? That kind of doesn't make sense. I think I would rather have one that takes place prior to 1, but I guess that's what the comics are for.

I just started rereading the Gunslinger.. I made it through Wizard or Glass years ago, but never finished the series. Going to start from scratch now.. The Gunslinger and Wastelands are my favorite books.

i absolutely love stephen king, but never really got into this series of novels. i read the gunslinger and wasn't really crazy about it. then again, that was quite a while ago, so maybe my feelings will be different now. currently i'm reading firestarter, but i think when i'm done with that, i'll tackle the dark tower series.

and to derail for just a second, i just got my copy of 'blockade billy' in the mail and am waiting for the slipcover to come for it. really happy i saw the ad for that book and slipcover. i don't own too many first editions, and the limited slipcover for it will just make it even more special for me.

I finished "Blockade Billy" earlier this week. Good read, just wish it was longer.

I don't like this Ron Howard/Brian Grazer thing. Seems like it would really water down the series.

So, I decided to start rereading The Dark Tower because I stopped at Wizard or Glass years ago.

I read the first three books in the 8th grade back in 1993. I remember not liking The Drawing of The Three back then, but now as an adult, I'm really enjoying it.. Good stuff.

I think the Drawing of the Three and The Wasteland are the two best in the series. Hope you enjoy the rest, the books only get more gigantic from here

I probably posted this in this thread already but a similiar thing happened to me. I, too, read the early books back in 8th or 9th grade. I read Wizard and Glass when I was in college and didn't like it very much. I reread the first four when the fifth one came out and was blown away by how good Wizard and Glass was. I think it might be my favorite of the series. I wonder if a lot of my dislike of it the first time might have been that I was reading it in the library when I should have been studying genetics and was stressed from exams!

Hope you enjoy the rest of the series. I didn't particularly care for the direction he took it but there is still a lot of coolness in the last three books to make them worth reading. King's imagination is off the charts!

The Wastelands has always been my favorite. I can't wait to start that one. I remember not liking Wizard, but am interested to see I'll it will come across now.

might have already commented on this, but i think wizard and glass is my favorite out of the series. i think the ending really did it for me, it was like a one-two combo and explained so much about who roland is, and why.
