  • maybe it's better today, but I know this mall used to be really bad. I remember a shooting in the movie theater on Christmas Day years ago, the day Godfather 3 came out. I live close to the former South Shore Mall (it's got a corporate name now) and that's no picnic either. A few years a go, a woman got stabbed because she had a red shirt on, some kid had to stab anyone in a red shirt to get into a gang. Then there's Smith Haven mall, Long Island's goth headquarters. I think I'd rather take my chances with the gangs

Aaah, back in the mid-to-late 80's, the problem was actually with skinheads more than any other group, so that might've been it. There were some violent incidents at the mall, Toy R Us and movie theatre involving skinheads back then. That movie theatre - The Sunrise Shooting Gallery - has always been bad though...it's earned and maintained its rep, unlike the mall.
