From all accounts, this scene was incredibly ugly. The news reported that co-workers tried to help him, and they were run over, and cops and EMT's tried to revive him, and they were run over.
I'm pretty sure that was meant in that a 34 year old male is in much better physical condition than an 80 year old greeter...i.e. knocked down and trampled easier, hinting at the verocity and carelessness of the crowd, not that it was 'better'. Nice interpretation though.

it seems that the term 'black friday' is quickly becoming synomous with what greed and commercialism does to some people's mind, heart and soul to turn them cold and black
"black friday" has ALWAYS been about profit--that's where the term "black" comes into play. it's named such because it's the day when a lot of retail outlets show a profit or move into the black.

i didn't realize there were so many of us local to this area. i still stand by my earlier post. i think greenacres' rep is much worse than it actually is. its not great, sure...but none of them are.
I swear, I hear about somebody getting hurt or killed every single Black Friday. When will people learn? I'm so glad I don't work in retail anymore. It was always the worst day of the year, with all of the psychos fighting like animals over a bunch of crap.

maybe it's better today, but I know this mall used to be really bad. I remember a shooting in the movie theater on Christmas Day years ago, the day Godfather 3 came out. I live close to the former South Shore Mall (it's got a corporate name now) and that's no picnic either. A few years a go, a woman got stabbed because she had a red shirt on, some kid had to stab anyone in a red shirt to get into a gang. Then there's Smith Haven mall, Long Island's goth headquarters. I think I'd rather take my chances with the gangs
Aaah, back in the mid-to-late 80's, the problem was actually with skinheads more than any other group, so that might've been it. There were some violent incidents at the mall, Toy R Us and movie theatre involving skinheads back then. That movie theatre - The Sunrise Shooting Gallery - has always been bad though...it's earned and maintained its rep, unlike the mall.

oh yea. i remember when i was in high school ---the movie theatre got a metal detector. that was big news for us. and the last any of us were allowed to go there.
