I'm reading this 500+ page book about my father and uncle. They were one of three pioneers of the Jamaican Sound System they created starting back in the early 50's through the 60's. I can recall when I was 6-10 when my father would tour the island playing some concerts, dances and any gathering that required superior sound for entertainment.  I spent the summers in the country with him and I was popular with my friends because I could get in even though we were very young.

They had a huge record shop in Kingston, with thousands and thousands of records mostly 45s. There, musicians who wanted their music to be heard came to get their music distributed to the public. THIS, was b4 major radio stations came about in the 50s. The likes of Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff would visit his record shop searching for a chance to get their music out. THIS was the era of SKA, ROCK STEADY then REGGAE music.

My father and uncle are both alive today. My father 96, my uncle at 93.

    Peace

    Very cool!

"Mohammed Aziz, a 71-year-old bookseller located in Rabat Medina, Morocco, spends 6 to 8 hours a day reading books. Having read over 5000 books in French, Arabic, and English, he remains the oldest bookseller in Rabat after more than 43 years in the same location."

6 to 8 hours a day of reading, wow!  I would go blind, lol.
5000 book in any language, let alone three different languages... impressive!
And a fine mission to bring reading to his country.

@brianlux.  Go blind... Lol!   6-8 hours a day of reading sounds like a full time job.  Id probably fall asleep.  Learning languages is great but I'm happy to learn with Duo Le Chouette (Duo-lingo).

West Coast Dreamgirl, Duo-lingo?  Is that a bipedal dingo?, lol!

I have only read that many hours is a day a few times, probably just the times I read these three books in one day:
Charles Dickens: A Tale of Two Cities
    Bernard Malamud: The Fixer
    Cormac McCarthy:  The Road

Any more with my eyesight a bit weak, that would be a bit too much!

Speaking of books, I am finally (sheesh, about time!) reading Barbara Kingsolver for the first time. I got caught up the this story very quickly. Like all authors I admire, Kingsolver has the ability to create a character's "voice" through the writing, and The Bean Trees protagonist and narrator, Taylor Greer, has for me a distinct voice. Great writing, intriguing story, and surely not my last Kingsolver read.

It's lovely to hear from you Brian... I love books but the only time I can read that much is on holiday, resting on a sunlounger and sunning up on the beach, it's been a very long time since I've had the chance to do that.  Although winter reading is nice too, curled up near an open log fire or under lots of warm blankets with hot chocolate.

    Charles Bowden. Dakotah.
One again, a Bowden work that is flat out amazing. I'm drawn to Bowden's work as if in many ways akin to his view of the world . AND Terry Tempest Williams' introduction to the work is absolutely splendid.
Dakotah The Return of the Future by Charles Bowden Goodreads

And the introduction to this book by Terry Tempest Williams (she is an amazing author as well) is excellent as well.  I think this quote really stands out:
"He [Bowden] shocks us into the realization that if we are alive then we must feel both the pain and the beauty of the times we are living in. After reading one of Bowden's stories, my heart hurts. Dakotah is no exception. The bubble of privilege and denial that says we get to close our eyes to the world's suffering , especially that which is next door, bursts in any book Chuck Bowden writes."

Henry V by Dan Jones (audiobook). Who uses more audiobooks than physical books? I'm probably 65% physical book /35% audiobook.
