Can someone recommend a book for me? I need to get back into reading. I could scroll and pick out a book...but I guess I don't feel like it. I'm a Kerouac/Beats fan for anybody willing to help.

Given your description of what you like....if you have not read Naked Lunch (Burroughs) or Post Office (Bukowski) I would suggest either of those.

If you just want to read a great book? Highly recommend all of these, see which one sounds best to you.

    Chuck Palahniuk - Choke

Clive Barker - The Great and Secret Show

George RR Martin - A Game of Thrones

Jon Krakauer - Into Thin Air

Can't thank you enough! Appreciate it, brother!

I have a feeling it's going to make me wish I studied math more in school ...

Just finished this up today. Really good book. As a nonfiction book written by a fiction author, it has a very nice narrative and fiction type feel, making for a good read. But, as such, I'm taking many of the more outlandish scenes depicted with a grain of salt.

Not sure what I'm going to read next ... have to check the list! :)

    I just finished this:

    image

Not bad. Certainly interesting. But it wasn't that great, either. King wrote the first draft before his accident, and then finished it up afterward. Some cool ideas in it, but I just felt the flow didn't work very well. Too much bouncing around between narrators.

    Now I'm reading this:

    image

I'm only about 20 pages in, but I'm already quite enjoying it.

I just started Firestarter last night...my hubby got me a 1st edition copy of this book for my birthday :D I watched the movie years ago, but I've never read the book. So far, so good...
    image

I finished up Firestarter last night, from what I remember it follows the movie (although I can't remember the end of the movie since it's been 25-30 years since I've seen it). Good book, with some definite page-turning moments.

I just started this last night...It's my 12th book this year :D

Yet another blog post, but featuring two of our own so if you haven't read Jonny Bails and The Big Hoot, what are you waiting for? The third book mentioned is more of a romance, very sweet and gentle.

:)) That is one of our paper topics we can choose to write on. Not sure what I want to write on and it's due in a few weeks. One topic I'm leaning towards writing on is if I go back in time and meet Alexander Pope in a coffee shop and have a conversation with him. I think the catch to it is we have to direct quotes from his poetry that we covered in class for his response. We read "The Rape of the Lock," "Essay on Criticism," and "Essay on Man."

Your Pope Conversation sounds way better than a paper on Moll Flanders. I thought that book was bo-ring!

It's off to a slow start 20 pages in. It would help a lot of he used quotation marks.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was the first Vonnegut book I've read all the way through, and I look forward to reading more by him.

    Now I'm reading this:

    image

I'm about 50 pages in, but only about 10 pages into the actual story. The first quarter of the book is an editor's note going over background, themes, historical context, etc. I'm looking forward to getting to the meat of the story.

Just finished this one..., "...Mountains..." that is. Meh. i really like Hosseini's prose, but i didn't get very much from this particular story. To me it seemed more like a collection of short stories. I had a lot of unanswered questions about some of the characters and i was generally unmoved.
