I've heard really great things about that book too. I need to add it to my ever-expanding "to read" list. :)

I was about to start a book thread but good thing I looked first.

On Tuesday, I bought all three of John Lennon's books that he wrote. In His Own Write and A Spaniard In the Works are put together as a reissue for what would have been his 70th birthday. I already read In His Own Write and started the second one. I also bought his other book that he was writing during his five year break, Skywriting By Word of Mouth. I've been wanting to read his books and now that I have started to read them, he had his own style of writing. You can tell he was having fun when he was writing his books.

I'm looking to read Kerouac this summer. I read On the Road a while ago but I'm going to read it again and then look for more of his books when I'm done.

I've read My Own Country and it's excellent. Good writing and good story. He was working in a small rural community when the epidemic was just taking hold. It was especially meaningful to me because I'd worked at an AIDS service organization but the writing and story are so compelling, you don't need any kind of background to enjoy it.

I picked up a battered copy on holiday last week that had been left by someone.

Royal Flash - George Macdonald Fraser.
I was laughing after 3 pages.

I think I'll have to read the other 11 Flashman books.

I have just got Neil Peart's new book Far and Away at the Rush concert tonight and began reading that on the journey home.

I'm reading Wuthering Heights right now...I gotta hand it to those 19th century writers, I may not like all of their books, but they sure are page turners.

The worst 19th century book I read was Jane Eyre for high school. That wasn't my strongest second marking period my sophomore year.

  • I just finished Bloodroot, which I loved. I'm currently reading "You Can't Be Neutral on a Moving Train" by the great Howard Zinn. I'm also probably going to start Jane Eyre, it's a classic that I never got around to.

Wuthering Heights is my #1 favorite book. Heathcliff is that ultimate "bad boy" with a sensitive side. ;) I turned the pages as fast as I could and when I was finished I started it over.

I just finished Sammy Hagar's autobiography where he exposes the foolish antics that took place while he was in Van Halen, as well as his life before and after Van Halen. I actually went to one of Sammy's book signings and he was the nicest, coolest dude. It's a shame that Ed and Al are lunatics and wasted many years of making great rock music. I'm a huge Sammy fan, by the way.

Sammy wrote about the tour that he and Roth did back in 2002 and how Roth was a complete wreck during the tour and only played his old Van Halen covers, while Sammy played a few VH songs, but also did his solo work and Montrose tunes. Sammy mentioned how his merchandise outsold Roth's merch on that tour by 4 to 1. Sammy also found it amusing how Roth would never come on stage with Sammy to do any collaborations after Sammy had asked Roth over and over to do this.

    * Sammy gives Eddie Vedder some quick props in the book. He also mentions Scott Weiland and how Weiland refused to let David Lee Roth come on stage to jam with Velvet Revolver at the Rock Hall of Fame ceremonies a few years ago when VH was inducted. (Only Sammy and Mike showed up to speak on behalf of VH that night because of how dysfunctional the brothers and Roth were behaving.)
I have to read this book!! I love a good rock and roll book, am a huge VH fan, and a big Sammy Hagar fan, and i was at The Gorge in 2002 for the Sammy/Dave concert and walked away from it with WAAAY more respect for Sammy than when I went in. Going to the show i was more excited about Dave being there, but he made such an ass of himself, and gave no props to VH at all, just played all VH music. Sammy on the other hand, played music from his entire career, and told a cool story about writing music with Eddie. Very classy guy that Sammy Hagar is.

    Thanks for sharing. :D
