Beavis: No, Eddie Vedder makes faces like this guy.
Butt-head: I heard these guys, like, came first and Pearl Jam ripped them off.
Beavis: No, Pearl Jam came first.
    Butt-head: Well, they both suck.

i've always liked time travel movies...

I understand that the book the time traveler's wife is better than the movie. I read a movie review and the reviewer found it creepy, like his mom was killed when he was 6 and he meets her when he is grown and she LIKES him....not knowing he is her son. That sounds like back to the future....michael j. fox met his mom in the fifties and she got a crush on him when he stayed at their house and she thought his name was Calvin Klein (his underware.)

the title says it all. the time travellers wife.

I understand that not everything we read online is true, but the time traveler's wife (and the author, why she wrote it) is explained on wikipedia. Great spoiler. I'm on cd 3 or 4 now of the audio book.

    Its called "Under the Dome"

its supposed to be a real throwback for him. An epic book (draft was 1,500 pages). Apparently its a project he attempted in the 80's but it was too grand for him to tackle at the time. Apparently there is something like 100 characters and some of them are amongst the most evil in the King library. I have heard it has more to do with Society in crisis, much like The Stand. Here is an official synopsis:
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester’s Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener’s hand is severed as “the dome” comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when—or if—it will go away. Dale Barbara, Iraq vet and now a short-order cook, finds himself teamed with a few intrepid citizens—town newspaper owner Julia Shumway, a physician’s assistant at the hospital, a select-woman, and three brave kids. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie, a politician who will stop at nothing—even murder—to hold the reins of power, and his son, who is keeping a horrible secret in a dark pantry. But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn’t just short. It’s running out.

Its supposed to come out November 10th, and I may pre-order it.

Yeah I am really excited about it too. But I am excited every time King comes out with a book. I have been avoiding what it's about so I can go in fresh.

I'm currently reading "The Birthing House" by Christopher Ransom, whom I believe is a member of The Pit. I remember something a while back about someone posting on here about their first novel being published. I belive they said the title of their book was The Birthing House.

Anyways, I've started a whole thread on it if anyone has any info about this mystery.

    The thread is here: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=107253

Sounds like the plot of the "Simpsons Movie"
All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.

I've only ever read one King novel, the Gunslinger. I dug it, but don't know if I have the heart to tackle the rest of that Dark Tower series. I hear it kinda drops off at the end. But I have been thinking lately about getting the stand and reading that. Any thoughts?

I had a big literary vacation and read 2 Vonnegut novels (Sirens of Titan and Breakfast of Champions), Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian (I just don't get the hype with this guy) and Don Delillo's Underworld (pretty cool, though exhaustively long).

Now I'm reading World War Z by Max Brooks. This book is incredible. It's about zombies, but it's far smarter than it has any right to be. A very funny, totally eerie, and surprisingly moving critique of our culture, politics, and everything else, all presented in humane and personal stories of terror and survival in the face of an epidemic. It's the most I've enjoyed a novel in a long time.

the dark tower series is great - song of susannah is a bit of a hard slog i think - but the rest are amazing, and the ending is great.

the stand is a must read as a tie in for the dark tower - as is eyes of the dragon. in fact, an awful lot of kings books are twisted in amongst each other. he's a genious.
