    Colts pretty much choked at the end of that game. Pats took advantage of it, but the colts really came up short.

    I wouldnt say being down to the cowboys towards the middle/end of the third quarter = a blowout. They put on all those points after the game was out of reach. Granted the cowboys defense played terrible that game, but the cowboys proved to be competition for the pats.

    colts "choked" = pats winning in my book.

    i don't care how the cowboys defense played that day, if they were terrible (an excuse) or awesome, they still lost.

    the pats were behind 24-21 until about 5 mins left in the 3rd quarter, scored a TD and never looked back. i would think outscoring your opponent 27-3 over the last 17 mins of the game and ultimately winning by 3 TDs is a blowout.

    that's ridiculous. i can't wait to see what the lines are going to be against the jets and dolphins. fyi - the steelers are 16 point favorites over the dolphins this week.

    per rotoworld:

    Donovan McNabb (ankle, thumb) did not practice Wednesday.

    Eagles coach Andy Reid said McNabb's ankle has swelled up since Monday, after saying then that his jammed thumb was more of a concern. McNabb could be listed as questionable, not practice all week, and still play against New England.

    some interesting stuff i came across:

    Las Vegas has set the betting line for Sunday's game between the Patriots and Eagles, and New England is a 23.5-point favorite.

    ESPN's Sal Paolantonio writes on ESPN.com that this is the largest point spread in NFL history for a game that does not involve an expansion team.

    "Nowadays, you don't see too many spreads over 16 or 17 points," Sean Van Patten, an oddsmaker at Sports Consultants in Las Vegas, told Paolantonio. "That's because most teams take their starters out in the fourth quarter of a lopsided game. The Patriots don't. I call this phenomenon The [Bill] Belichick Factor."

    ++++++++++++++++++++++

    from john madden:

    "It's the best offense I've ever seen. I said the other night that Tom Brady is playing the position of quarterback, right now, better than I've ever seen anyone play it in my history. Where they go as the best team [of all time], I think offensively they are right there. I think the best offensive teams that won were probably the San Francisco 49ers, in my mind, and I think this [offense] -- the way they're playing right now -- is probably better. Again, I put the whole thing together with the offensive line and the receivers and the quarterback and everything. When you go to 'team', then you have to put in defense. Their defense isn't the Pittsburgh Steeler defense, it's not one of those. It's not the '85 Bear defense. So you can say historically, when you put it together, I'm not sure they're the best team ever but I am sure -- in my mind, just my observation -- that they're the best offensive team I've ever seen."

    ++++++++++++++++++++++

    randall gay from espn gamenight regarding everyone talking about the pats running up the score:

    "Basically, you have to ignore those people because this is a job. We're out there, and what are we supposed to do? Like we scored on defense, when Ellis [Hobbs] caught the fumble, should he have taken a knee because we were up by so much? We're out there to do our job, just like they're out there to do their job. It kind of makes me mad when you hear somebody from the other team's defense going 'they shouldn't have done that; that's disrespect.' Do we think it's disrespect when they went and picked up their checks for letting a team score 50 points on them? That should be disrespect, that you went to your owner and said 'All right, pay me for that game I just played.' You can't look at it like that. You have to go out there and do your best. If somebody is blowing you out, you have to play harder. You have to stop them."

    ++++++++++++++++++++++

    more john madden:

    "I think New England, especially offensively, is as close to perfect as you can be. They are obviously the best team in the NFL and I think the gap is pretty big. The argument would be who is second and for a long time everyone kind of agreed that it was the Indianapolis Colts, and because of injuries and so on that they have now, it's probably not. You probably have to go to Dallas and Green Bay.

    "Having said that, it's just a joy to watch these guys because as a coach, you always think 'What would I do defensively? What would I take away? Would I rush Brady? Would I cover?' If you rush him and blitz him, he's going to get rid of the ball quickly, about the same percentage he does if you drop back. There is no answer to anything that you can do to him that is going to be successful. The real answer would be that you have to get pressure on him, but you have to get pressure on him with a four-man rush. There are not many teams -- there aren't any teams -- that can do that because like I said the other night the most underrated part of this team is their offensive line.

    "If you were going to stop them, you would have to double Randy Moss all the time. You would have to always have seven guys in coverage, and have a four-man rush that can put pressure on him. That's good in theory. The problem with that is that their offensive line is as dominant as the rest of the parts of their offense, and they won't let you do that."

    Madden has had a man-crush on Brady since Superbowl XXXVI ... when he initially stated he didn't agree with the Pats going for the win with under two minutes left just after the Rams scored to tie the game ... then after they put together a few plays, he warmed up to the idea, then after the Wiggins catch and spike, Madden went into full blown "I'm on record as saying I don't agree with them going for it here, but, what Tom Bady and the New England Patriots just did, gives me goose bumps."

    I have that game Tivo'd on "Never Delete" from an NFL Network rebroadcast ... love watching that ... I could watch the Ty Law pick 6 over over again and again (oh, and to prove I'm not a complete homer, Vrabel should have been flagged for a blow to the head on Warner on that play, these days, no doubt he gets flagged for that).

    Madden owns a shit load of property in Pleasanton, CA, just outside of where my girl lives ... you can find him playing bocce in a local italian restaurant there in the off season ...

    Eagles push the Patriots to the limit, exactly what they needed.

    A true test.

    i would have taken another 56-10 blow out win, but belichick is going to be all kinds of fired up this week in practice. i saw plenty wrong.

    in the end, a win for the pats and that's all that counts in the standings.

    This came a perfect time, just the thing they need to get them out of the "we'll ALL THAT" attitude. A nice wake up call.

    I see them getting sore after practice.

    For all those people who say the Pats have played an easy schedule ... so far, to date, their scedule ranks 8th toughest in terms of Win/Loss ... take out Miami and the Jets, then how tough is it?

    A chart I came across, ranked from easiest to toughest ...

    W - L - Pct.
    45 - 65 - .409 Oakland

    49 - 61 - .445 Houston
    52 - 58 - .473 Cleveland
    52 - 58 - .473 New Orleans
    53 - 57 - .482 Carolina
    53 - 57 - .482 St. Louis
    54 - 56 - .491 Dallas
    55 - 55 - .500 Atlanta
    56 - 54 - .509 Cincinnati

    that was an interesting read. i believe that the patriots and belichick do everything for a reason, but who knows?

    i liked this part: "For a team that is usually great at making adjustments, the Patriots didn't seem to make many defensive adjustments on Sunday night." i thought the exact same thing once the game got deeper into the 2nd quarter.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    from ron jaworski about the eagles aggressive approach against the pats:

    "I believe that's the approach you have to take. Quite honestly, this is the best offense I have ever seen. The best. They are going to score points. They only had eight possessions against Philadelphia and ran 73 plays. Every time they came on the field, they ran nine plays. So this is an offense that is going to move the football. They believe in being aggressive. ... As an offense, if you're playing against the Patriots, you can't say 'let's run the ball, let's slow down the game, let's limit their possessions.' Look at what the Eagles did. They did about everything right and still lost the ballgame."

    That's the reason I posted this cause I was thinking the Patriots don't seem to want to make any changes in their play. Seems like they want to send the league off in one direction while they have their mindset completely in another. Either way it was a great wake up call for the rest of the season.

    If they struggle against the hapless Ravens whom I like then the Patriots truly have some problems.

    comments from pats defensive coordinator:

    On the television broadcast, it was mentioned that the Eagles had success with "in cuts". Pees didn't see that as the primary problem.

    "It wasn't so much the in cuts as it was the seams of the field, there is a little difference," Pees said. "One thing is that I give a lot of credit to the Eagles and [quarterback A.J.] Feeley. He had a good game and threw a lot of passes when he was under duress and getting hit, and put them on the money. At the same time, we need to play them better.

    "The thing that got us a little bit in the last game -- and we've tried to work on it this week -- is just fundamentally we got a little lax at times and let things happen that just shouldn't happen. There are other plays they just made -- he made a good throw, they made a good catch, and that's football. But there were other times that we got caught kind of watching the rush, expecting the guy to get sacked and he didn't get sacked, and maybe we were out of position a little bit."
