I agree. Who says you have to change from Goulet. His death could be a plot by the Others to confuse us. Besides, we don't know if Jacob is human or spirit. Seems like Goulet is in shape to play both roles now. ;)

makes him even more mystical! the untimely passing is almost fitting to the character...

Not that I'm rooting for him to fail, but the actor who plays Richard (the ageless one on Lost) is on a new show called Cane and it's not doing well on the ratings. I know CBS said they wouldn't let him do both, but if it keeps getting bad rating he should return to Lost and maybe we'll finally find out why Richard doesn't age.

i'm sure they'd think goulet as jacob was the most ingenius idea/theory they've heard about the show! :D

    that picture certainly is haunting.

I was wondering when you'd pull that out. He certainly was a strange choice to sing the national anthem at the home opener this year.

Maybe the Red Sox will be haunted by the Curse of the Goulet?

He sang "The Impossible Dream" (which he had sung on Broadway I believe)because they were doing a tribute to the 40th anniversary of the 1967 Impossible Dream Sox.

Plus he was born in Lawrence MA.

    this would most definitely suck...

Question: What does the strike mean for Lost? Any idea how many episodes they finished pre-strike? Is it still scheduled to air some time in February?

If the strike extends into the new year and beyond, there is a chance ABC may opt to delay the new season until the fall. Or worse yet, February 2009. Another scenario has the network simply airing the eight episodes already in the can this February as originally planned — something Team Darlton would not be in favor of. Says Lost cocreator Carlton Cuse, "Damon [Lindelof] and my concern about running the [eight] episodes we will have made is that it will feel a little like reading half a Harry Potter novel, then having to put it down. There is a mini-cliff-hanger at the end of Episode 8, but it's like the end of an exciting book chapter; it's not the end of the novel. Damon and I didn't write [the ending of Episode 8] differently [with the looming strike in mind]. We wrote it to be the ending of Episode 8." In any case, he concedes that the decision to hold or air the episodes isn't ultimately theirs. "It's really [ABC honcho Steve MacPherson's] call," Cuse notes, adding, "No one was happy with the six-episode run last season."

I read that they had scripts through like episode 12, but then Michael Emerson said they usually only have 1 or 2 weeks ahead of what they are filming written, and they were filming episode 7, so the speculation was that if the strike persisted ABC would run an abbreviated 8 episode season.
    Not good in either case.

I thought the producers decided to put a hold on the season so that the cast and crew could properly mourn the passing of Goulet. ;)

This is half-way related to Lost...but an interesting read nonetheless. Jenna Fisher (Pam on The Office) posted the following in her blog:

    Understanding the Strike

By now you may have heard that The Office has shut down production. This is true. They cleaned out my trailer and just delivered me 3 boxes of my stuff. It is pretty surreal. We cannot produce new episodes of The Office until the Writer's Guild strike is over.

You might be confused about the issues of the strike and I'm hoping that this blog can make it a bit clearer. (I should probably tell you that I support my head writer/producer Greg Daniels and the writing staff of The Office in their decision to strike.)

The big issue in this negotiation involves the internet. If you go to NBC.com right now, you can watch an episode The Office for free. The network runs advertisements while you're watching it, which gives them an extra source of revenue. The actors, writers, producers and director, the people who created the content you are watching, are not compensated in any way for this.

The Writer's Guild has taken the position that the writers should receive residuals if the show re-airs on the internet just like they receive residuals if it re-airs on television since in both cases the studios are making money. The issue is a huge deal, because the internet is clearly where the future of entertainment lies.

Right now, a number of successful shows (like Lost for one) have stopped showing repeat episodes on TV at all, and have replaced them with ad-supported streaming video on their websites. If you're a Lost writer, or actor, or director, or a teamster that's no residuals at all for that show, and that's a big pay cut. We all count on the extra income that residuals provide as it can help us through a slump in our career when we aren't working as regularly. It is our safety net. In 10 years I may need those residual checks to cover my electric bill. You never know. Hollywood is a fickle town. If in 10 years, everything is rerun on the internet, the current union contracts say the studios don't have to pay us a dime. And, I'll be sitting in the dark.

I hope that helped to explain things a little. For more…

Here is a video of our awesome writers on the picket line. They are funny even on strike:

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=b6hqP0c0_gw

And you can also read James Gunn's blog on the subject which I thought was really great:

    http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=58119776&blogID=325719700&Mytoken=48DA5041-E1D5-4563-86851B6E03CBFA22555321

Oh...there are only 2 unaired original episodes of The Office left. And, I'm sad to say the one we were getting ready to shoot was going to be the funniest of the year. I'm sure of it. They've been pitching this particular story idea for over 2 years…it involves Pam and Jim being in Michael's home but that's all I'll say. I hope we get to shoot it soon. Let's all stay strong and hope that the strike can end soon.

Poncier's right - ABC has confirmed that unlike Fox, it will air the partial season of Lost. Fox is not going to air 24 now.

I agree - 8 episodes would suck - ala the 7 episode mini season last year. But I don't think the strike will go on more than a couple of weeks. Late night tv is already in reruns and most networks only have a couple of episodes left of their shows in the middle of sweeps which is when Networks use ratings to get ad money.

The networks have too much too lose by letting the strike go on too long.

So we should see Lost uninterrupted. I think everyone is just forecasting doom and gloom scenarios because the media loves sensationalizing things.

I think it will be interesting to see how much sympathy actors and actresses get this summer when their contract runs out and they might go on strike.

    "ramifications"

And, yes, it was sort of an 'Ashton Kutcher' kind of thing. Sorry, I had a couple beers when I posted that.

    Don't Cry

They'll air at least 8 episodes starting in Feb.
And if necessary we'll act out the other 8 live for you at the Border Cafe.
    nfanel will play Kate
    ac will play claire
    solat13 will play Jack
    I'll play Sawyer
and we'll get Lou to play Benry.

That's the best fucking idea I've ever heard!! :D

(But, now that Charlie's dead, who do I (Claire) get to make out with???)
