they can really brighten up your day :)

thank you to the random lady at borders...who stopped me to ask/compliment me about the dress i was wearing (it was quite fancy). she said it looked fantastic on me...i was a bit taken aback at a stranger complimenting me like that. i may expect it from sales clerks while shopping...but not from random people.

i'm going to wear dresses everyday...not just on my self-appointed "dress up for work saturday" ;)

random thought...carry on!

It is nice when people compliment you. I try to do that because I know from experience that it can make a difference in someone's day. My dad was in the Optimist Club and I always loved their "creed". :)

    The Optimist Creed

    Promise Yourself-

To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.

To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.

To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.

To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.

To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.

To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.

To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.

To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
"I'd rather be with an animal." "Those that can be trusted can change their mind." "The in between is mine." "If I don't lose control, explore and not explode, a preternatural other plane with the power to maintain." "Yeh this is living." "Life is what you make it."

One of my friends told me that I looked nice today... which is something I don't hear much (scruffy bastard by all accounts). I was actually really pleased. Making an effort paid off for once. My return compliment was kind of unnecessary since she always looks great though :p

Compliments are always best when not expected, and it's one thing I will try to give more of next year to those I care about.

It's something I have not done enough of for a long time, and it's easy thing to change about yourself. Also it can not only brighten others, but it usually makes you feel better knowing you gave another person a pick me up.
I know someday you will have a beautiful Life

Speaking of compliments. A few weeks ago I ran in to grab a cup of coffee early in the morning. Well, a guy told me, "Wow, I don't mean to bother you...but you smell great." It was sweet at the time...but the more I thought about it throughout the day, the creepier it seemed.

Yea, that could be taken in a number of ways. I can see how it would be kind of creepy, but still a nice sentiment. I would take it way differently where I live now (in a smaller town) than I would have living in San Diego. I'm so glad I moved and don't have the worries I used to. Living in a big city was getting to me because growing up SD was a small town and I hated being uncomfortable in it. I'm much happier here although it is growing like everywhere else! :)

Wow...you consider SD a small town?? Sure doesn't feel like it when I'm sitting for hours in traffic on the 5.

it really makes a difference i feel!

i started dressing up on weekends for work because during the week i was always running around drilling signs, rearranging walls (more drilling!), hauling ladders around the store...nothing that would warrant being fancy. i always wore jeans and a tank or t-shirt...hair thrown up in a ponytail. saturdays/sundays we don't have any major projects on the floor, so i just wanted to take advantage of the nice clothes that i have in my closet. and it gave me an excuse to buy more fancy clothes :)

it's crazy...but i wore another dress to go christmas shopping the other day. more compliments...on the dress and my glasses. i may not go back to contacts for awhile! it can be a good pick-me-up for me...just to make the extra effort.

No, not now for sure. I grew up there though and when I was a kid it was small. I was born in 1955 and I was third generation. I remember Mission Valley full of cows! It's one of the reasons we moved, besides hating the weather. lol We like cooler weather and rain!

That was more LA ie Orange County. lol We had more avocado groves. Our house was built in the midst of one and I remember they were great climbing trees! Also, my one remaining client from SD has a huge avocado grove (800 acres) close to the animal park. He sadly lost his crop and most of his trees in the fire but his house was spared. :) It was a great place to grow up in, but just got way too big for me and when you figure in that I hated the heat I was very glad to move. :)

Oh....I'm sorry to hear that. Yeah, Escondido/RB was hit really hard...all the way down to the 15...on both sides. But, as you said, thankfully his home was spared.

My sister and I were in Dublin for all of 1.5 days last week. We went out for dinner and a guy from another table came over and said 'excuse me, I just wanted to tell you that you have beautiful eyes' and walked away again. I thought that was really nice :)

I get told I look younger than I am a lot, half the time I don't believe them.

I am a midwife, and a few days ago I was working with a woman in labour and after a particularly rough contraction, she asked me " Have you ever been through this". I told her, " Four times actually". She did a double take on the bed and said " No way, how old are you????". I said, " I'm 37, why? How old did you think I was"........... and she says, get this......." Oh my god, I thought you were about 24!!!".......... I of course responded with " Oh my god, I love you!!!" That sweet girl totally made my day.

Hmm...I've considered becoming a midwife...but never having had any children, wouldn't that seem hypocritical?

The other day I waited on three ladies and when I came back with their food, Lady 1 said "Ok, now look up." So I did. Then she said "now look at Jane & Betty." The other two women, obviously, so I did. And then Jane & Betty both said, "Oh, yes, you're right! She has amazing eyes!" They thought I have beautiful eyes (I do). But that made me feel really good!
I really screwed that up. I really Schruted it.
