So you would steal your rival, West Virginia's, victory celebration after big games?

actually, i'm pretty sure ohio state has trademarked that game response. we did it for victories, losses, or just the hell of it. they had to clear the streets with tear gas FOUR times during my freshman year... even in the spring after football!

Is he the big receiver? I think I remember him from a couple years ago.

Yeah. Huge potential talent (he was likened to Randy Moss his freshman year), but the thug factor has taken its toll on him this year. He hasn't played the last few games; the stated reason is "turf toe" but it's rumored to be more reprimand in its nature.

This article is a couple years old but gets the point across:

West Virginia officials move to snuff out couch burning
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Fire officials in Morgantown, W.Va., have ordered the removal of all upholstered furniture, debris and flammable objects from porches in city neighborhoods with high West Virginia University student populations in an effort to put a damper on the outdoor furniture blazes that have become a tradition.

The move comes as the city, known as the couch-burning capital of college football, prepares for the West Virginia-Virginia Tech game Saturday.

"The reason for the order is based upon statistical fire data gathered following major rival football games or other sporting events," Morgantown Fire Chief Dave Fetty said. "Data says there are particular areas ... where we can expect to have illegal street fires."

Students celebrating wins by the Mountaineers have a long tradition of setting street fires, often with cheap furniture dragged from their rental homes.

A report in Tuesday's Morgantown Dominion Post said the city led the nation with 1,129 intentional street fires set between 1997 and 2003.

Residents who don't comply with the order by Friday morning will be cited and their furniture hauled away.

I still love that Penn State had to enact a law forbidding drinking in the parking lots DURING the game.

    Awesome post, Solat.

I'll be at the WVU-Miss State game in Morgantown this Saturday. I'll take pictures if I see any burning couches.

If I see him on the sidelines, I'll ask him if he needs a band aid. ;)

Our defense has played well so far this year, and although we blew it against UVa last week, the UConn defense vs. UL offense should be interesting. UConn hasn't really played too many tough teams, so it will be a good test for us. Our OL is shaky, which is unfortunate, because we have some good backs. Hopefully it's a competitive game.

I'll leave Koach alone for a week...I won't forget losing to Syracuse and Utah at home that easily.

I forgave the Kentucky and even the Utah loss....but I can't let Syracuse go just yet....it'll take a victory over South Florida to erase that one! Anyway, we're 40 in the BCS rankings, with a lot of room to work with.

It's funny how expectations can drop so quickly....

Going into the season, the goal was a BCS title. Now, a few weeks later, a loss to UTAH at HOME is acceptable? Come on, man. Koach really fucked it up, bad. He can redeem himself, sure, but it's going to take more than beating UC to make that happen.

If South Florida ends up at #1 when we play them and UL wins out, then the season may have a chance.

Scary thought - next year, Brohm, Douglas, and the entire starting offensive line is gone due to graduation. Whoah.

It's just incredible to me that Koach inherited this team, which is largely the same as the Orange Bowl Champions, and just destroyed it in a matter of a few weeks. I realize the lost some extreme talent on defense, but the drop-off should not be THIS bad.

I'd say Petrino is shaking his head at seeing four years of work destroyed this quickly, but he probably is counting his NFL money and doesn't give a damn. The program is a metaphoric burning couch, set ablaze and destroyed in a matter of minutes.

And I said I'd leave Koach alone for the week....sigh...

Well, they did beat a top 15 team on the road, something Petrino never did, and the defense did stop UC when it had to (though allowing nearly 500 yards of offense in the process). We'll see how they do against a decent UConn team on Friday night.

  • he looked like an idiot last night against the Giants. He shows no emotion in the few ATL games I've watched this year. I remember how intense he was with the Cards....I think he knows he fucked up by leaving....but will never admit it. He'll be back in college ball in 2009.

While I'm still bitching about the UConn loss....

UL should have been up by more than what they were and hence this should not matter, this is one FUCKED call by the refs that resulted in a falty UConn TD, and UL lost 21-17

  • I think UConn should be fined for that play, because it was pre-meditated. The Fair-Catch rule is in place for safety reasons, not to be exploited for easy points. The Ref should lose his job, and not be allowed to coach in the NCAA ever again. I'm pissed, but shit like that happens...I have a feeling the Fair Catch will be reviewable next year...perhaps any play being reviewable....way to go UConn you've changed Football history by being an ass.
