OK so I watched it today. It wasn't bad, I enjoyed it. Didn't think it should have beat out Babel, though.

what he said. there were some moments of cringe-worthiness from some of the people in the movie, but for the most part, the main players got it right. keep in mind, wahlberg and damon are both from mass. the movie fit boston, and mass. to a t. a lot of insulting going on between characters, back and forth, which i found to be hilarious, and very relatable like myself between friends.

maybe good mob movies just aren't your thing then.
I take it you probably didn't like Goodfellas?

You're right. I'm not a big fan of Goodfella's either. I liked Mean Streets, Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, but apart from that I don't know what all the fuss is about really. In fact nothing since Raging Bull has really interested me.

Edit: The King Of Comedy was also a good un!

What? Even Ray Winstone's? I thought it was one of his worst performances. He was far superior in The Proposition, which I happen to think is a better movie aswell.
  • Just saw it this weekend. Loved the movie. Liked Dicaprio more than I thought I would too. (I like his work, but I wanted to root for Damon) Decent ending, but I must say I was happy it turned out how it did.

Not sure why dicaprio gets such a bad rap. I think a lot of people can't get over his titanic hearthrob role. He's a tremendous actor though. I hope he and scorcese continue to work together.

I thought he was the best thing about 'The Departed'. He was also great in 'Catch me if you can', and 'Total Eclipse', the film about the poet Arthur Rimbaud.

I always think of him in titanic though. Still, I like everything i've seen of his though outside of that ship movie. I was really impressed and thought he was the best in the film.

I watched it on Friday, and I've gotta say I don't get what all the fuss is about. It was ok, better than staring at the wall for 2 hours, but best picture of the year? That makes me glad I didn't waste any time watching any of the other nominees.

that's how i felt when i saw it. it was way overhyped. it was a solid movie, but it was a pretty typical gangster movie with above average acting. not the second coming people claim it was. i liked blood diamond better.

The acting was outstanding, no doubt about it. And there were some interesting twists and turns in the plot, which is always welcome. It certainly wasn't a BAD movie, but with all the hype I was expecting something on a par with the first two Godfathers, and it sure as hell wasn't that.

The fact that he was warned by Damon is my point. Kingpins don't become kingpins by making "ego" decisions. They're cold and calculating.

To bring the movie to a quick close, Jack's character had to be "dumbed down" to someone who bases his decisions on his ego.

So, the fact that Jack Nicholson showed up to a drug deal even though he knew he had a rat in his crew is plot hole of the film. Any semi-intelligent king pin would've sent a captain to do it for him.

Also worth mentioning is the alley chase scene after Damon and Leo leave the porn theater. In the theater, Leo has the ringer off. In the alley way, his ringer is on. It's a plot hole that was created so that the movie wouldn't end too soon.

The script isn't perfect, but that doesn't mean you're not supposed to like it.

    Someone's talking sense.

Sorry to say it, but that movie was damned awful compared to the original. Talk about leading the audience by the hand. Some of us out there have brains you know!

    I'd give it 3 or 4 (at a push) out of 10.

Best part about it by far was the Dropkicks!

Do yourselves a favour and rent/buy Infernal Affairs - by far superior!

i think the film was supposed to show how he was slipping in his age. getting tired and cocky and sloppy.

i didnt notice the ringer though. but then, im a pretty absent minded movie watcher... my mom and i spent 15 minutes after casino royale trying to figure out just what happened at the end of that movie.

    I noticed that, too.

And yeah, this movie is by far scorsese's best picture. It was entertaining, but it wasn't amazing...

Finally saw this last night and I'm with you Westernsky...I was really fuckin impressed! I loved it. And Leonardo!! God damn!!! He just constantly blows me away. He's amazing. He definitely stole the movie for me, but I agree that it was great acting all around. Matt Damon kinda annoys me sometimes but there's no denying he can act. I thought him and Leo were really good together. Damn Leo's amazing! :D

And it's seriously insane that it took this long for Scorsese to get an Oscar!
