The Official 2008 Chicago Cubs Thread!!!!!

  • Herald had an article a few days ago about the Cubs getting to 100 wins. They laid out the remaining series and their "predictions" for the series, and ended up having the Cubs at 98 wins. I don't give a frogs fat ass how many wins they end up with in the regular season, as long as they get 4 in the world series
It is going to be interesting come playoff time. Lou is going to have a few tough decisions when it comes to the pitching staff. Personally, if it were my decision, Dempster and Harden would be my #1 and # 2 pitchers in the playoffs. But we all know there is no way in hell Zambrano will not be starting that 1st playoff game.

This time, however, the Cubs are winning.

    Ryan Dempster, you are REDONKULOUS!!!!

8 series wins a row, 30 over, first team in baseball to 80 wins, and currently the best record in baseball. DRO is on fire, Harden yet another unreal outing. How many quality starts have we got from our starters this month? Hell how many games have we given up 3 or fewer runs this month? This team is really rolling, time to continue the dominance over Pittsburgh.

Wrigley East. Miller Park will always be Wrigley North. Man do I love the fact that that pisses Brewer fans off!!

The only thing that pisses me off if that we had the best record against you guys until the 4 game sweep. I don't mind if you drive 90 miles to miller park and have to ride home with a hangover following a loss.

Ha, I've lived in WI my whole life and Milwaukee the last 8. It's a short ride to and from Wrigley North for me.

Grew up watching them on WGN as a kid and learning about baseball since they didn't have lights and played all those day games.

On a side note, Soto has 7 RBI's tonight. PIT just walked in back to back runs for us with the bases loaded. Thanks!! Cubs go from down 7-8 to up 14-8 due to a 7 run 8th. However, I'm not too happy about yet another subpar outing by Z. Not sure if he's tired or what, but we need him to pitch better.

  • 32 games over .500. Zambrano looked very mediocre last night in Pittsburgh. He hasn't really thrown the ball well in a month.

    indeed it does.

the momentum is building, and they are playing as a team.

I don't subscribe to that theory. If this team stays healthy (especially Harden & Wood) they will be very hard to beat come October. Big Z will pull it all together when they need him to.

Not looking for an argument or anything, and my comment was mostly a joke as I've been giving my Cub fan friends around here crap just to keep them on their toes. Wanted to see what some of you guys would say. And I definitely agree with you, this team will be very tough to beat in the postseason, no doubt. I'm a diehard Sox fan too, but an even bigger fan of the game. And because of that, I do disagree with you as a World Series run is all about getting hot at the right time. Look at the last 3 World Series: 07 Rockies, 06 Cards, 05 Astros and Sox. And a lights out regular season doesn't always mean success either: 01 Mariners, 04 Cards. Like you guys, I expect to see this team playing well into October. All I'm saying is that huge momentum and success now(in August) doesn't equate to it later(October). I mean, that's why they play the games right?

I tend to agree that a hot streak going into the playoffs means very little.

I do think that with the Cubs rotation (extra tough in a 5 game series...Z, Harden, Dempster...yikes!), their pen and their top of the league offense, they will do very well in the playoffs.
I hate getting ahead of myself, but the Cubs are the best team in baseball right now and they will be the team to beat.
