Tough loss tonight.
I had a hard time tonight. My favorite team vs. my favorite player (Greg Maddux). Well, Maddog pitched amazingly but unfortunately the Cubbies lost it...0 -

Can't win them all.
Figured Lilly was going to get shelled after giving up that opening jack, but he had a nice game after that for the most part. At least we got 7 innings out of him to help the bullpen.0 -
How'd you guys like my hit in the 8th?
Good game.Horry Kow!0 -

Good game.
Loved it!! Got waay to close for comfort in the 9th but we came through. A win is a win. We've set it up nice for a winning road trip which is all I'm asking for. It is only early June, but with that win and the STL loss our magic number is now down to double digits at 98!!!Alpine Valley 6/26/98, Alpine Valley 10/8/00, Champaign 4/23/03, Chicago 6/18/03, Alpine Valley 6/21/03, Grand Rapids 10/3/04

A lot of these games have been way to close for comfort, plenty of which have been come from behind victories. But thats what good teams do, win.
is Wood leading the NL in saves yet? He's got to be pretty close, he's been racking them up recently in crazy bunches.0 -

Yep, he's leading the NL with 17.
But he does have 4 blown saves, only one less than Eric Gagne and two less than Jason Isringhausen.
I'm definitely sold on Kerry as the Closer though... Its his first go at it and he is still doing great. By the end of the year (if he's still healthy) he will be absolutely dominant as the Closer.Everything not forbidden is compulsory and eveything not compulsory is forbidden. 4-3 road trip. I'll take that. 40 wins, 50 more and we should be a safe bet for the playoffs. Long, long way to go, but I like what I've seen from this team so far. D-Ro comming up clutch tonight. It's someone different every night. Wasn't a huge fan of throwing Marmol in the 8th, the 2/3rds of an inning in the 7th was enough I thought. We can't keep throwing him all the time, or he'll be shot in August. Wood looked solid again. Time to go back home and hope the dominance at Wrigley continues.Alpine Valley 6/26/98, Alpine Valley 10/8/00, Champaign 4/23/03, Chicago 6/18/03, Alpine Valley 6/21/03, Grand Rapids 10/3/04

I am definitely fine with a 4-3 road trip, especially with the way they had been playing on the road. No major setbacks.
I'm with you on Marmol, actually Wood too. Seems like both have been used a lot recently, and we all know Wood's injury issues. So far so good though.0 -
Ladies and gentlemen, the starting catcher for your 2008 National League All Starts, Geovany Soto!!! It'd be a damn shame if he isn't!! Glad to see him come through in the clutch, and spare us from using Wood tonight. He probably will be the starting catcher...
Soriano, Fukudome, and Zambrano are shoe-ins right now
I don't know about Ramirez....
I doubt if D Lee makes it because there are so many 1B in the NL (Berkman, Pujols, Adrian Gonzalez) who are just hitting lights out. This is a shame because in the end D Lee is the leader of this team who does all the right things in clutch situations.Everything not forbidden is compulsory and eveything not compulsory is forbidden. Well I went to my first Cubs game yesterday.. The rooftop seats where about the coolest thing I've ever seen, but other than that I wasn't too impressed with Wrigley Field. It didn't really live up to the hype for me. It felt very cramped and confined. It reminded me of the old Comisky, but there's a reason they knocked that place down.. And for every die hard Cub fan that watched every play religiously, there were 2 others who acted like there wasn't even a game going on.0

I agree with you as far as the cramped feeling. this is not a place for overweight people. McDonalds was not around when they built it so the obesity problem we are having in this century was not expected when they built it.
I also agree with your ratio of Die hard fans to people who do not pay attention. It is a cool place to be for some of the college kids that moved to the neihborhood just to party.
As for the rooftops I disagree. They look cool from inside the park but to go and watch a game from there is not that big of a deal. You end up watching it on TV and the delay throws everything off. All you can eat and drink is the best part of the rooftops. Great food on every one that I have been on. I have been lucky enough to never have to pay to get on them which always helps the experiece too.
I am going tonight. It is my first game since opening day so I am way overdue.

Glad you got to see a win. Dempster going the distance and saving our pen was huge. Losing Soriano for 6 weeks is gonna hurt, but hopefully not too bad. They scored like mad when he went down in April but that was only 15 days. This team is deep so I think they will be ok, plus Puljos is out for 3 weeks and I think that hurts STL more than Soriano out hurts us. Time to see what Hoffpauir can do.
In the realm of thing there's a handful of players that I think would hurt a lot more if we lost them (Zambrano, Marmol, Wood, and Dempster with the way he is pitching, and as far as position players go Lee, Ramirez, Fukudome, and Soto. I'll miss his bat, but not his fielding. We have guys who can hit for power, whoever takes his place just needs to hit for average. Don't get me wrong, I'm upset he's hurt, and I do think it was intentional too. There is some bad blood between these two going back to last year in ATL with them hitting Soriano after he hit 3hrs, Lilly getting tossed in the 1st inning and Renteria pulling that bush league bull shit sliding into 2nd on Fontenot.Alpine Valley 6/26/98, Alpine Valley 10/8/00, Champaign 4/23/03, Chicago 6/18/03, Alpine Valley 6/21/03, Grand Rapids 10/3/04

I don't know if he meant to hit him, but he at least was trying to push him back. Soriano's face was directly over the plate.Everything not forbidden is compulsory and eveything not compulsory is forbidden. You are free... free to do what the government says you can do.0 -

Maybe he was, maybe he wasn't. I just know there's bad blood between these teams, so I wasn't surprised when he did get hit.Alpine Valley 6/26/98, Alpine Valley 10/8/00, Champaign 4/23/03, Chicago 6/18/03, Alpine Valley 6/21/03, Grand Rapids 10/3/04

That was a purpose pitch. Sucks to lose him with interleague play coming up. He could have been DH. Looking forward to seeing Micah Hoffpauir get some playing time but thought he would be called up this weekend anyway.

Well the plan was going to be to play Hoffpauir at 1B, DH Lee, LF, DH Soriano, DeRosa @ 3B DH Aramis. Not sure if that will be the plan now with Soriano out. But no quesiton Hoff should get more ABs. I still think Lou will just have a makeshift lineup perhaps having DeRosa bounce from 2B to LF, giving Cedeno and Fontenot more time at 2B.
Since Ward still isn't ready to come off the DL, I'd imagine we'd call up Hoff AND another OF (Murton, Pie, patterson types). But with Edmonds hitting better, Reed Johnson, Hoff, we'll see.0
