I cant beleive the cards are hanging around. I am having fun this year with the way the cubs are playing. I hope that the last home series against the cards is a worthless series as the cubs will clinch earlier than that but I am holding onto those tickets just in case. I was thinking the MILW series were going to be the big ones. Kind of hope they start playing a little better to make it more interesting. NAAAA screw the brew crew. HAHAHA

    Go Cubs!!!!

I am amazed to see the Cardinals hanging around as well...and I'm a Cardinals fan. I really have a hard time believing that Todd Wellemeyer can keep up this pace all season long and Loshe has shown signs of returning to his troubled ways. Our only legit starter is Adam Wainwright (who I think will be a tier one pitcher in the not too distant future).

The Cards are benefiting from youth and even from competition for playing time. When guys get the chance to play, they produce. Somehow though, Tony only starts a guy with 13 HR's and 39 RBI's 1/2 of the time. Tony and his micro managine really gets on my nerves.

I just wish the Cubs would lose one game...just lose one.

Looks like we might have today, but, NOPE!!! Unbelievable comeback!! Everyone chipped in today after Lilly pitched horrible. Just absolutley unbelievable. I was listening at work and after they took the lead people were like what's with you (as I'm usually not in a good mood at work). I'm on cloud 9 right now, truly unbelievable!!!

I've been pretty impressed with the Cards this year. I had them pegged for a 500 year. And the thing is, at least for me anyways, when the Cubs are doing this well, I tend to not pay as close of attention to other rival teams. So I really haven't seen much Cards/Sox/Brewers stuff unless the Cubs were playing that team. I wasn't sure how the Cards were hanging in there as close as they were, but then after watching them, and seeing the makeup of the team, like I said I was impressed.

But I still hope the Cubs have an awesome June/July again like last year, and get a huge lead, clinching early.

Yeah I chalked it up as a loss after 9-1 and Lou pulls Soto and Lee. Wrong. Cubs having fucking OWNED the NL West thus far, sweeps against the Dbacks and Dodgers, 3 out of 4 from the Padres, and I think 3-1 against the Rocks so far (??). Whats that like 12-2 so far?

PS I still fucking hate Edmonds.
  • ....also, anyone hear the Santo call of DeRosa's go-ahead HR. Fucking hilarious, I think he shit his pants!! Its on Sportscenter if you missed it. All the highlights have Kasper/Brenley, except the DeRo jack
  • The spotlight continues to grow on Carlos Marmol, who has been almost unhittable as the Chicago Cubs' most reliable reliever. The three Colorado batters he faced Friday each took a called third strike. He threw only 10 pitches, with Jonathan Herrera the only one to make contact, on a foul ball.

''I'm not surprised because I have my pitches working,'' a smiling Marmol said. ''I feel great, and I did great, I think.''

With his ERA shrinking to 1.54 with 52 strikeouts (to 12 walks) in 35 innings, Marmol is likely to be among the Cubs getting All-Star consideration. Marmol has been electric, but manager Lou Piniella is also happy with the improvement from right-hander Bob Howry. After a difficult April in which his ERA was 8.03 in 13 appearances, Howry has posted a 1.84 ERA in 12 May appearances.

Heard it live in my cube at work and just about shit myself too when he hit it, heard it on the post game show on the way home and on sportscenter, great great stuff. Let's get them today, and hopefully I get to see a win tomorrow for a 7-0 homestand as I'm going.

  • In my opinion, HUGE west coast road trip coming up this week. They have to come out 500 or better. 10-13 on the road isn't cutting....even though they have the best record in baseball. Have to prove they can win on the road.

They've handled NL West teams @ home all year, now they have to do it on the road.

Glad I got to see the 7-0 homestand completed today with the largest crowd of the year, so far. I've got a feeling if the Cubs and Sox both stay in first, the weekend of June 21st is gonna be a packed Wrigley.

Huge 2 months in general with 34 road games compared to 20 home games (today's included). Absolutley need to step it up on the road. I'd like a 4-3 road trip this week. Not really any reason to not split at worst with SD, hopefully take three, then we'll see in LA. Sadly the west coast trips generally haven't been friendly. Not sure but I believe we actually had a good west coast trip last year, not sure though.

Yep a win is a win. Zambrano looked really shaky to start the game, and Marmol didn't look like himself, but 8 in a row sounds really good.

    Tough loss tonight.

I had a hard time tonight. My favorite team vs. my favorite player (Greg Maddux). Well, Maddog pitched amazingly but unfortunately the Cubbies lost it...

    Can't win them all.

Figured Lilly was going to get shelled after giving up that opening jack, but he had a nice game after that for the most part. At least we got 7 innings out of him to help the bullpen.
  • How'd you guys like my hit in the 8th?

    Good game.

    Good game.

Loved it!! Got waay to close for comfort in the 9th but we came through. A win is a win. We've set it up nice for a winning road trip which is all I'm asking for. It is only early June, but with that win and the STL loss our magic number is now down to double digits at 98!!!

A lot of these games have been way to close for comfort, plenty of which have been come from behind victories. But thats what good teams do, win.

is Wood leading the NL in saves yet? He's got to be pretty close, he's been racking them up recently in crazy bunches.

Yep, he's leading the NL with 17.

But he does have 4 blown saves, only one less than Eric Gagne and two less than Jason Isringhausen.

I'm definitely sold on Kerry as the Closer though... Its his first go at it and he is still doing great. By the end of the year (if he's still healthy) he will be absolutely dominant as the Closer.

4-3 road trip. I'll take that. 40 wins, 50 more and we should be a safe bet for the playoffs. Long, long way to go, but I like what I've seen from this team so far. D-Ro comming up clutch tonight. It's someone different every night. Wasn't a huge fan of throwing Marmol in the 8th, the 2/3rds of an inning in the 7th was enough I thought. We can't keep throwing him all the time, or he'll be shot in August. Wood looked solid again. Time to go back home and hope the dominance at Wrigley continues.
