ESPN is reporting that you guys are getting Griffey, as long as he agrees to go there.

Nice bat to add to the lineup.

Sox have agreed to send Masset and Richar to the Reds for Griffey. At first, I was like what the fuck?! Why? But the more I thought about it, the more I liked it. They didn't have to give up much and they get a future Hall of Famer. Richar becomes expendable with the emergence of Ramirez and they're likely to go after a 2B in free agency, possibly Orlando Hudson, when Alexi moves to SS. Masset lost out to Danks and Floyd for a spot in the rotation and hasn't been all that useful in the pen. They have other guys that can provide long relief, like Carassco or Wasserman, so he can go. I'm not sure where they're gonna play Griffey. Maybe move Swish to first and bench Konerko and let Griff play Center. But his health is an issue out there. Maybe just rotate them around a lot, giving guys rest down the stretch. But they'll be in the middle of a hunt, so Ozzie will have to use them wisely.

I have heard rumors of acquiring Huston Street from the A's, so maybe this sets things up for another deal. We'll have to see...

You know at first I was I thought it was HILARIOUS that the Sox picked up KGJ, but once I realized what they gave up for him I also realized it was a pretty good pick up.
They gave away practically nothing to get a pretty good player. KJG is nothing like he was, but still a good trade.

    Prediction:
KJG is hurt by the end of the year.

I know KJG is a great outfielder but they may need to platoon him in the DH if they want to keep him healthy for the rest of the season and playoffs.
  • KGJ is nice but what the Sox could really use is better pitching. Even Ozzie said as much in his postgame comments.

It's looking like a repeat of 2006. The Sox and Twins even close out the season at the Dome just like two years ago.

The Sox have added the great Griffey Jr. to their arsenal and the Twins should have Franchise Liriano and Cuddyer back soon. Should be fun.
    So this life is sacrifice...

  • Griffey for the Sox could be the same as Edmonds for the Cubs. Low risk, lefty bat with pop, subpar stats, older, slower, but if he gets hot, he can carry this team. As Edmonds as proved time and time again this year. Now it obviously wasn't the #1 need for the Sox, and it seems like a move almost just to show that they aren't standing around not trying. I'm sure they tried to get some quality arms, but the price was too high, so they balked, and went for more of a PR move maybe. At least Griff didn't make the Sox pick up his 2009 option.

With the advice of his dad, his main reason for coming to Chicago was it's his best chance to earn a ring.. I like the sound of that!

Means he'll be playing his heart out the rest of the year..

I agree. They didn't give up anything that will affect the future. Steve Stone said that, not me, so it must be true, haha. Being in playoff race might light a fire under him and with their offense being so streaky and Konerko sucking, they could use some more pop in the middle of the lineup. And it looked like a good move last night, hope it stays that way.

I don't think this was as much of a PR move as people think. Kenny has long been trying to get Griffey. Not only for what he brings to the field, but what he brings to the clubhouse. He's hungry. And they definitely needed some pitching, another starter would've been great, but Ozzie wanted another bat as well. And in terms of age, the Sox weren't even suppose to be in this position to begin with, so Kenny isn't looking to next year. We want it this year!

The old, slow, and dumb White Sox are in 2nd place in the American League Central Division.

I see the young guys from Twinkieville are having a hard time staying ahead. Will this run last another day for you guys?

Good wins the past two games. These are the must-win games, Royals at home. Still keeping up with the Twins, which is nice.

Better news is that they signed Gordan Beckham. He's gonna be a stud.

Just watched the highlights, awesome. They were pissed at the Royals after all that crap the last time they played, had to show em what's up.

Sox are back in first. Hopefully to stay. They just keep hitting them out of the park. Quentin leads the MLB with 35 HR and I'm pretty sure so do the Sox.
