I thought an old person like Rob would be understanding after 2 other old people drove to Houston and back (10 hours!  10 hours!) in one day.

I'm sensing a space theme as we've acquired our last 2 puppies.  First, Scout came from Venus (Texas).  Now we've gotten a puppy right down the road from this place.

We said goodbye to our sweet little Penny on June 2.

I know everyone's different but when we lose a dog, we tend to wait about 6 months before we get another dog.  But we always get another dog.  After Django died, I started looking for another sheltie several months later.  I was surprised at how hard it was to find one.  Shelties aren't nearly as popular as they used to be.  By the time we got Scout, it had been about 10 months.

It's a long boring story but earlier this summer a breeder who was a friend of a friend told me about yet another breeder in the Houston area who had a brand new litter of puppies, all 7 of them girls.  She put me in touch with her and we started emailing.  She sent me pictures and videos as they puppies grew.  They were 5 tricolors and 2 blue merles.  We've had 3 tri girls and they all were Daddy's girls, so that got Glenn's attention.  I pointed out that the breeder was on the other side of Houston but he didn't care. And even though it hasn't been that long since we lost Penny, 2017 has really sucked for us!  We wanted something to be happy about and a drive to Houston would be worth it.

A week ago the breeder told us that she had one puppy from the litter for a pet home and also had a 7 month old tri girl available.  We told her we'd come there and make a choice.

    These were our choices.

This was pretty hard to resist.

But in the end, this was who stole our hearts.

So say hello to Stella, who was a trouper for the drive back and who has been quick to make herself at home.  Also working on becoming a Daddy's girl.

While we wait for pics of the mystery puppy, here's another of Roxie with her favorite ball. Took this one this morning. 18 weeks in 2 days. About 28 lbs already.

I checked a "puppy journal" we kept with Piper.....she was 24 pounds at 19.5 weeks and about 28 pounds at 6 months. Her adult weight has always been 40-41 pounds. It looks like Roxie will be bigger. :dog:

  • Hello to Stella!  What a gorgeous girl! I would have chosen her too....or ended up taking both!  =)

Heres an update on our boys....
16 week vet appointment was last Saturday.  McCready (long haired dapple) weighed in at exactly 5lbs, and Coco (smooth chocolate) was a whopping 6.3lbs! The gap just keeps widening between them.  Based on what i know about the other 2 from the litter, we got the biggest and smallest of the bunch.
They are definitely taking on more of that dachshund shape and attitude!  We started puppy school a couple weeks ago, and they are doing great.  Truth is, they have learned more commands and "tricks" at home, but the socialization is really important to us.  McCready continues to be super shy and barks constantly at other dogs, noises in the distance, our cats.....He recently started acting more shy towards people too, which we are surprised about but at least he warms up quickly.  He can't always be persuaded by treats either, so he is going to be more work I think.  Coco is the exact opposite.  He is most social, loving pup!  He seems to favor people over animals for sure (honestly its probably because people can give him treats) but he is getting more interested in the other dogs at school now.  Last weekend, he even ran through the sprinkler with other dogs at school totally unprompted!  I was so proud of him! B) We are looking forward to Sunday's class!

Here they are after class last weekend!
