A year ago today we brought home my little prince.

    image

It was an Amazing Journey that took us all the way to Venus (Texas) when it was time for another dog. We'd grieved after losing Django but Love Ain’t for Keeping, so I began looking for a new buddy. For months, I was The Seeker, but I couldn’t seem to find the right dog Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere. I looked for so long that it felt like Two Thousand Years! I guess I could have tried for another breed but once you've had a sheltie, there's no Substitute.

Months went by. I felt like I was going in Circles. At last I spoke to a breeder who had several puppies available and soon Glenn and I were Going Mobile to check them out. There were sable and tricolor puppies but when I saw the blue merle I said, "That's a Real Good Looking Boy!" After getting acquainted with him, we decided to Put the Money Down and Scout came home with us.

The past year with the our boy has been A Quick One. I couldn't be happier. They Made My Dream Come True.

Beautiful boy you have there Who Princess.

This pic made me chuckle a little bit.

Because Brandi was doing great on not bothering here cast/splint. But she decided she wanted to start chewing on the top part of it. So, on went the soft cone, and she doesn't like it one bit. But if she isn't going to leave it alone, the cone will have to stay on. She was doing great until today, oh well, her doing.

This is absolutely adorable! I've never seen a soft cone like that. She looks like she's been playing Pretty Pretty Princess.

Scout did not enjoy wearing the cone. He kept rubbing along the furniture to push it backwards so it looked like a clown collar instead of a cone.

Have to agree, she does look cute with it. But she sure hates it, at least she is chewing on it, then the cast/splint. So far, she hasn't been able to do what Scout did, and reverse it.

They gave me some large clear plastic one after her surgery, the smallest one they had. But Brandi is so small, it was to large for her. I went to a local Mom n Pops pet store that has been around since 1970. This one was made for cats, but it was the only one small enough around the neck, to fit Brandi. I wasn't out looking for a pink one, but, it just happened to be the only one that fit her. But it does make her look like a little princess. :)

My dog decided today that she likes certain parts of her dog food and not so much the other pieces. She kindly placed her non favorite pieces on the floor next to her bowl this morning.

In Texas they're sometimes known as Dash-hounds. :cowboy:

We call them wiener dogs too but there are actually people who think dachshund is pronounced "dash-hound." :dizzy:

My dad, having been German and raised with Butch (his dog, his DOG! :unamused: ) , he pronounced the breed as Dasch-HUND. A bit Col. Klink-y, but right on.

I took German in college and learned that dachshund means "badger dog." They were used to hunt badgers and would follow badgers down into their burrows. Today's trivia topic. :glasses:

Yep, dad was correct. I grew up around a neighbor "lady" from Germany. She had 3 of those little suckers. She made sure you knew how to pronounce the name. I used to get under her skin by asking here how are the wiener dogs doing today. Good thing she liked me, or she probably would have slapped the crap out of me.

Cool history lesson. The Yorkie was developed to go after rats at first. then people used them to hunt badgers and foxes underground as well.

So, Brandi goes back to get her cast/splint changed later today. Any guesses as to what color she'll get today? Unless they change it up to a different style of cast. I think it's next week, they said they'd probably go with some sort of soft cast though.
