Question for my fellow dog lovers... We have 2 big 70-80 lb dogs, both very sweet mutt-mixes. They have a big yard to romp in, and they play/run so hard that they are killing the grass in one side of the yard. They run 90 miles an hour across the yard and skid to a halt. :) Any ideas on a kind of grass that would be more durable, anything? It hasn't helped that we went through a drought this summer, so the grass was struggling anyway. But now we've got a lot of dirt patches. They're awesome dogs, though.

    Welcome, Oliver and Rudy!

Gravel and stepping stones work best for me. That's probably where you'd want a path anyway, right? Dogs are experts at finding the shortest distance between two points.

ours make their own path where the grass won't grow now, no chance

Charlie would plant little poo sculptures on the stepping stones to the pool

Oh yeah, we've had a distinct path for years, there's no chance there. This is our 2nd pair of big dogs, the other two were very old and died two years ago. Oliver & Rudy immediately picked up the same path. :)
We got Oliver as a puppy when the two older dogs were nearing the end, and just got Rudy a few weeks ago. They're both still very young, but they wear each other out.

They are great about going to the farthest corner of the yard to poo, so we don't have to worry about land mines.

I've thought about astro-turf, no way my husband would go for it, but that's about as durable as these guys need.

Here in Georgia Bermuda grass is grown... I've never had it though but I hear it
holds up well under dogs. It is kept very short, likes sun, heat and little water,
but it goes brown for off season.

Your boys are very very cute and I am envious of your new addition, Rudy.

We have two girls now, one big one dinky ... Lucy Lew and Maddie Lew who
the ladies, they make my life :D
