    Oh, Norm! TPLO!!!!

The late, great Seamus had that done in 2001. For the next six years, until he died at age 12, he had a very solid surgicially reconstructed leg. I hope Norm has as successful a recovery.

    Yikes.

The L,G Seamus never expressed any interest in his staples, so we didn't have to Conify him at all.

this is what i'm hoping for...when he cut himself years ago as long as i kept an eye on him he rarely bothered with the stitches

Is Norm spending the first postop night at the vet?

Seamus did, for pain control. It was planned in advance.

Then I picked him up at the end of the next day, when he was finally cleared to go. He was completely gorked, and cried the whole way home. It nearly broke my heart.

When we got to the house, Mr. Unlost and a neighbor carried him in and settled him in the gigantic crate I purchased for his recovery. It had doors at the end and the side, I figured that way he could walk in and wouldn't have to turn around to come out. Then he quickly graduated to a gigantic orthopedic foam bed that we fenced off with an x-pen.

I had to lift him down the three steps to the front yard for maybe a week or two.

As I recall, he was weigh-bearing on the operative leg within a few days _ just touching the toe down, though _ we were vigilant about not letting him overdo it.

Which, as you know with a Lab, is somewhat of a challenge...

well the doctors office just called and regaled me with his peeing and pooping results :fp:

the hardest part of all this will be trying to keep him still...they gave me a list of what to do post recovery...number 1

keep him in a small space

    :fp:

oh the crying and carrying on that will commence

also on the list was 'we can prescribe tranquilizers if needed'

my question is..for the dog or me? :problem: :wtf:
  • its always a good idea to take the pills norm.
    do some research...
im sure you can figure out the dosing equivalent for humans

Had a client call once, they had to take care of their mother who *wasn't all there* and she decided to take the ENTIRE BOTTLE of sedatives we gave to the client for their dog after surgery. Must have been 15 of the highest dose...we had to tell her to call 911/poison control. :?

lab and pit owners usually come back for different/more sedatives. :D
