man. my heart just broke (again) as i looked at those pictures. it reminded me of the time i was moving and hadd to put my doggie Surfer in a 'pet hotel' for 5 days. Those were the longest 5 days in all of my life and i literally felt empty inside not seeing him. The look on his face when i went to finally pick him up is forever burned in my memory. It makes me cry just thinking about it. I never thought i could feel any emptier or sadd or alone. I was wrong cuz, since he died i feel that all the time. I hope ALL of those doggies get homes. I wish i could take them ALL! :)

Burlington County K-9 cop and her husband charged in dog's death

By JASON NARK
Philadelphia Daily News

narkj@phillynews.com 856-779-3231

A Burlington County K-9 officer and her husband were charged with animal cruelty yesterday in the heat-related death of a beloved, bomb-sniffing dog in July.

Mount Holly Police Officer Kara McIntosh left Patton, a 5-year-old golden retriever, in her personal vehicle on July 7 with the air conditioner running, believing that her husband, Robert, would later pick up the car and the dog, New Jersey SPCA spokesman Matt Stanton said.

Kara McIntosh parked the car in a lot across the street from the Mount Holly police headquarters, but her husband never came, Stanton said, adding that Patton, who lived with the officer, died of heat stroke after about two hours in the car.

Yesterday, the couple were charged civilly and criminally with four counts each of animal cruelty, Stanton said. The criminal charges could carry up to a year in jail or community service.

Stanton said that Officer McIntosh trained extensively with Patton, and should have known better.

"I don't think there was any bad intent here. The bottom line is people don't understand that leaving your dog in a car is a crime," he said. "It's 75 degrees out today. In a car with the windows up, it could get to over 100 degrees in just 45 minutes."

Stanton said he didn't know McIntosh's status with the Mount Holly Police Department, and neither her attorney or Police Chief Steve Martin returned phone calls for comment.

Officers from Mount Holly found Patton on May 8, 2006, at the Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue's Golden Gateway, in Lancaster County, according to the organization's Web site.

Patton, working with McIntosh, learned to develop more than 20 scents and specialized in rooting out shell
casings, which won him a spot on a statewide task force under the U.S Department of Homeland Security.

Not doing good tonight.... :(

I will be talking to vet tomorrow....

Trix just fell down tonight, and started crying... it broke my heart...
i gave her some pain meds, and she is walking funny and will not come up on the couch...
so i helped her up, she layed their whimpering, with her head on my lap. That was a couple hours ago.

Well just now she went outside, came back in, got her treat and went to jump on the bed to go to sleep, and she went down on the bed crying again.... i layed their with her for a few to calm her down...

never meant to be a downer, but i know some of you know whats been going on. Thought i would share that incase i might not be myself in the next week. I have been super excited to get to see 3 shows, but this just brought me back to earth...

it kills me to see her in pain... just fucking kills me inside...

make the pain go away....make the pain go away.....make the pain go away....help the pain go away.....

• That's really rough, pj rocks. I'm welling up thinking about it. There are no word that exist to express just how shitty it is when your fuzzy pal is in pain. Our friends are going thru a similar thing with their dalmation - they refuse to talk about the inevitable. My thought are going to be with you and I'm hoping you'll at least get some good news...hugs...

Thanks all of you....

So i just got back from the vet....

We had a few xrays taken, and it showed that she has an issue with her spine, the lumbar/sacral sterosis.
the sacral is not lined up with her lumbar. Then as he is showing me the xrays, he says where is her splean, her intestine looks all bunched up , so he says lets take another xray. Well as we both saw from the first xray,
the second one confirmed, her intestine is all "balled" up with a massive amount of mass where it should be!

There was a specialist their and he asks her to come over and check it out, for a second oppinion. She then says the mass could be just faty tissue, but would not know unless she went under the knife. Well both the vet and i say she cant go under the knife again, the last time almost killed her.

She then starts feeling her stomach and as she is doing it, Trix starts to shake, and at the same time, the vet says i feel something abnormal... She asks me about previous surgerys and i say the only one was when she was fixed when she was a puppy in that area... nothing else on her stomach. she has this look like really...

I tell both of them, i do not want her to suffer!!! They both tell me we will do an ultra sound when you get back, and will decide then what to do...

They both go one to say that she looks so happy and acts like a puppy, which she does. Like nothing is wrong.

• Aw, poor Trix. I'm glad you could see the vet and a specialist too. It seems like you have a good vet who understands how to care for your dog and do what's best for her.

I hope when you do the ultrasound you find some answers. In the meantime, be at ease that Trix is happy and loved. :)
