any ranger that takes any penalty during an overtime should be fined for that game from their salary.

king henrik stands on his fucking head and they still givem a L.

    fucking bullshit.

i guess 1 point and Toronto and Montreal losing is better then nothing.

Another reason the Rangers left a point on the table was a familiar one: their power play came up empty on six chances. And in a matchup of two of the best penalty-killing teams in the NHL over the last two months, it was the Rangers who broke at the end.

"I have to stay sharp and not allow any mistakes," said Lundqvist. "Hopefully our power play can step up and get some goals."

Henke was fabulous last night- probably the only other thing besides 1 friggin point that we took away from that game.

The bad weather kept the Rangers in Atlanta last night- so theyll most likely be very tired tonight against the Bruins .

C'mon boys string together 60 solid minutes and 2 regulation points,.

    Blueshirt Bulletin

    http://ordinaryleastsquare.typepad.com/blueshirtbulletin/images/2007/03/16/callahanny.jpg

The Rangers did almost everything right last night in Atlanta. They withstood the home team's first period onslaught and even came away with a lead at the first intermission. They withstood four early Atlanta power plays, including a two-man advantage, and then came out forechecking, pressuring, and firing a barrage of shots once they were able to get regular shifts for someone other than their penalty killers (32-12 in shots on goal over the last three minutes of the first period and the rest of the game). Other than the one mistake that led to Atlanta's lone regulation goal, they played sound defensively and got the requisite goaltending from Henrik Lundqvist (with a beautiful save thrown in here and there, especially early on), shutting down the Thrashers' big guns.

Still they lost the game. They lost it for one reason, and one reason alone -- they could not win the game on the power play. And that's exactly what the Thrashers did, cashing in on their overtime power play. Facing one of the worst penalty killing teams in the league, the Rangers kept the puck in the zone, they passed at the right times, they shot at the right times (nine power play shots), they generated traffic in front of Johan Hedberg. They tried the first unit for the entire two minutes a couple of times in the second, and they tried starting the second unit on the crucial advantage they got late in the third period. And still, they couldn't score on the power play.

And you just knew the Thrashers would score on theirs when the game was on the line -- Alexei Zhitnik, who was so bad he was a joke, especially on that early two-man advantage, came through when the game was on the line. No one did for the Rangers. They rarely do. They are now 0-for-19 while going 1-1-2 in their last four(and giving away a point to Carolina in their only win), and 2-for-34 in their last six (with both goals in one game). They are 21-for-120 (17.5%) in 2007, but only 15-for-111 (13.5%) in 2007 aside from back to back wins in which they went 6-for-9. And as we've demonstrated in the past, most of the power play goals they do score come early in games or when games have already been decided, rarely making a difference when the game is on the line.

With Toronto and Montreal losing tonight, plus Carolina and the Isles losing last night, the Rangers inched up by a point against all of their closest playoff rivals. But imagine where they would be right now if, all other problems aside, they had been able to win just a handful of games that they have lost with a timely power play goal, especially given the talent they have at their disposal.

Ryan Callahan played over fifteen minutes of highly effective ice time on the second line with Matt Cullen and Sean Avery, who were both superb in this game as well. He hits, he shoots, he skates -- the guy is a keeper. Brandon Dubinsky's ice time suffered as a result of all the special teams play, but he did well again too. David Liffiton was used sparingly in his second NHL game, his first this season. It appears as if he will be on his way back to Hartford once Jason Strudwick clears waivers and joins the Rangers for the remainder of the regular season (he would be ineligible for playoff games).

The officiating in this game was vexing for both teams. What was called vs. what wasn't called was irreconcilable, both ways. Ultimately, it cost the Rangers, Cullen being called for what was probably a penalty (although the opponent clearly dove, as did Cullen when he drew a penalty in the third period). The vexing part was why Atlanta was not called moments earlier when Avery was being restrained with a stick blade pressed across his numbers pinning him to the boards. But the Rangers had a chance to take advantage of the sorry officiating and take the game when Zhitnik was called for a phantom hold on Jaromir Jagr with less than five minutes left in the third period.

The end result, officiating aside -- the Rangers could not win with their power play, the Thrashers did

and all those people who were crying for re-building
they have to be happy with this lineup

Dubinsky, Pock, Prucha, Liffiton, Giraldi, and Lundqvist .

    how about that .

the futures so bright, i gotta werar shades

tonight is the return of Aaron Ward (Jeez, I hope he goes into the Hall of Fame as a Ranger). It also looks like a tired team since the plane landed in Westchester late this morning (at least it wasn't a commerical flight). Anyone showing up tonight, I'll be there, you know the spot.

interestingly enough, in my most recent blueshirt bulletin, they had a nice piece on him at home.
They guy from the paper stayed with him for like 24 straight hours- lots of time and covergae of him at home with the wifey and the kids ( photos too ). It look like he really thought he'd be here for a while,...

decent guy alltogether, too bad it didnt work out with him and NYC .

    wow
    what a game
so much to cover here, ..

Callahan gets his first & second goals , a fighting major , and hits anything that moves !  Tis guy will be around for a while.

these guys looked lost. too bad we cant play them the rest of the way, we just might clinch the 4th or 5th spot in the east,..

    http://espn-i.starwave.com/media/apphoto/a492f5b2-0308-42f4-b5e3-d76223ebe71b.jpg

5 different goal scorers , - and none of them was Jagr.
Things that make you go "Hmmmmm"....

King Henrik back atop his throne- that guy is getting better and better with each game,.. gotta have one of the lowest GAAs up to this date- Simply amazing play . It boggles my mind when he goes and throws his stick into the cxrowd- wonder they dont tell him to stop doing that- somebody is eventually going to sue MSG/ NYR for getting injured from this !
Amazing that Giacommin holds that record of 4 straight 30 win seasons- i believe that Henrik can match or even break that record so long as he stays healthy.

I cannot believe that another Blueshirt went down, in what appears to be yet another knee injury-- and ouch that split looked very uncomfortable

this quote from the bruins head coach says it all:
"I am embarrassed for anyone who has ever gone to a Bruins game and has a Bruins jersey at home because this is not what the Bruins stand for," Lewis said of Saturday's performance. "It is totally embarrassing.”

    interesting-
heres how we fared so far this season against the birds :

    10/12/06.....PIT 6-5
    11/18/06.....PIT 3-1
    11/25/06.....NYR 2-1 (OT)
    12/7/06.......NYR 3-2 (SO)
    3/1/07.........PIT 4-3 (SO)
    3/10/07.......PIT 3-2 (OT)

now another OT/ Shootout for the Pens ?

now im wondering , aside from with us, how many games has pitts won by 1 goal ?
how many shootouts , and how many OTs ?

I may be the minority here, but i more then welcome them in the first round ( no more shootouts ) , and i'd run with Lundqvist rather then Marc Andre Fleury.
